The lack of a lift didn't affect us, but it may be a problem for wheelchair users.
An excellent good value B&B only 200m from Douglas promenade. We received a warm welcome from the owners Gillian and Kevin, who are a friendly Lancastrian couple from Preston. The hotel is unassuming from the outside, but spotlessly clean and in excellent decorative order inside. Our room was on the top floor and although small was light and airy with sash windows and skylights - and the bed was really comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice - not just the 'full monty' offering, but other items such as pancakes with summer fruits and Yeo Valley yoghurts. Barbara has a great 'no nonsense' sense of humour. She and Kevin gave us loads of good travel and restaurant tips, all of which were spot-on! The Devonian is a perfect base for exploring the island and is well located for the seafront horse trams, the steam railway to Port Erin and the Manx Electric Railway to Laxey (for Snaefell) and Ramsey. (The 'Go' smartcard travel passes are excellent value at £32 for 3 days and are valid on all modes of transport on the island). We'd definitely stay at The Devonian again!
