The Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel & SpaBolton Abbey, BD23 6AJ Bolton Abbey (Show map) Excellent, Score from 19 reviews“we've stayed here many times before and, as always, it was excellent.”

Nottingham
This traditional 17th-century coaching inn that has evolved into a luxurious country estate hotel, offers exquisite food, a stunning wine list and warm hospitality. There is a choice of two restaurants - the Burlington, with its antique polished tables, china, crystal and silver for fine dining, and the vibrant Devonshire Brasserie and Bar for more informal dining. Supremely comfortable bedrooms are equipped with all the little luxuries that make a guest's stay special. Hotel Rooms: 40

This is a classy hotel with first class "silver service" - right from the time you arrive at the door (helped with cases from my boot to the room) until the moment you leave. The room was 5-star, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was well-equipped. The staff were very polite and gave an excellent service all-round (all staff were very smartly dressed which gives an air of class and finesse). There are two restarants - we ate in the less formal Brasserie - the meal and service was excellent and the menu offered a very good variety. The Brasserie bar is well equipped with a variety of beers and spirits. The final bill had two "optional service charges" on the bill - these were for the previous evening's meal and a few drinks at the bar. Bearing in mind that this hotel is already expensive (believe me, drinks and food are not cheap!); I felt it was extremely cheeky to add on these charges. I could have refused to pay as they are "optional", however, when you are checking out (if you're like me), the last think you want to do is make a fuss over something like a service charge. My bedroom was close to a road and, as windows are not double-glazed, it does get a little noisy sometimes (although traffic is not heavy in the area).

Good location for walking or cycling. Food good. Rooms comfortably. Initial greeting by reception poor and unwelcoming. Rooms compared to price not value for money. Sink in room in wardrobe. TV outdated. Shower ran hot and cold and not enough power.

Excellent staff and ambience. Location perfect. Food good - stayed Monday and Tuesday so could not try the Burlington restaurant which has a very good reputation. Liked the fact that breakfast was served to order. We found the bed not comfortable - too soft - and the bathroom rather small. In fact the room itself was rather small.

We especially enjoyed Charlotte's warm and personal welcome & her offer to have our dog sit with her on reception whilse we had dinner. Both seemed to enjoy it! We found the room over warm and struggled to get to grips with the temp control. The room wasnt quite large enough - certainly not for a stay of a few days.

A lovely welcome as soon as we walked through the door. A homely open fire. The bedroom was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was the best we had had for a long time

Our stay at the Devonshire Arms very enjoyable on arrival staff made us feel very welcome. The feel of the hotel was grand but homely, our room was nice and clean although some general maintenance was required as it was looking rather tired. We ate in the brasserie and although it was a little too busy in the main bar area to eat for our liking, the service, menu and food was excellent, so we requested a table in the restaurant part of Brasserie on the 2nd night and it was much better. We didn't get chance to use the spa facilites on our stay but I've heard they are superb. The area was superb for walking and exploring in general from the grounds of the hotel. So all in all as a last minute weekend break we enjoyed it and would definately return.

We were upgraded to a beautiful room, 6ft bed and Bath with a TV. Old country house atmosphere and wonderful staff. Location is perfect, walking distance to Bolton Abbey and river walks. Great food too. Negative free stay :) !!!

From the moment we arrived until the time we reluctantly left we were nothing short of overwhelmed by the quality of the hotel in absolutely every aspect. The service, the room, the food the facilities, the location, the value, it was a memorable experience and we will be going back at the earliest opportunity.

If you like walking and the countryside then you could not wish for a better location. The Brasserie Restaurant was relaxed and informal and the choice of food was good and varied. The Gourmet Restaurant was superb and the presentation was that good that you didnt want to eat it !!! Myself and my partner both have a wheat allergy and the Hotel catered for this throughout our stay without us ever having to remind them of the issue. One of the best weekends I have ever had. There was nothing that I could say that was of any significance.
