The Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel & Spa  

The staff were all extremley friendly & couldnt do enough for us. The hotel was very welcoming & made our stay very comfortable.

Everything - both in the hotel and the spa. We experienced both, had a wonderful break, and plan to return in the near future.

A VERY minor point: water wasn't brought to the table as requested on the first night and still, not sparkling, water was brought on the second! - no doubt due to slight language difficulties.

Staff pleasant; service unobtrusive; food excellent; location lovely

room was too hot to sleep -even with both windows open. Breakfast was beautifully prepared but very grudging portions - half a small tomato and half a mushroom!

Very relaxed friendly atmosphere, fires always lit, warm and welcoming. The Fishermans bedroom was lovely, with amazing views. Food was fantastic, they were happy to adjust the menu to cater for our dietary requirements, breakfast in the conservatory lovely in the sunshine. Excellent choice of Champagnes, had a fantastic self indulgent stay.

The young girl on reception was poor, she said Booking.com always got things wrong, when it was clearly her error misreading the booking. I had booked a twin room, they prepared a double. However, the issue was all sorted by Gary before we even got to the bedroom.

All fantastic - food, staff, location and facilities. looking forward to our next visit here.

pillows were too soft, not enough support drinks were too expensive and breakfast was a little sparse, half a mushroom!!!!

The whole experience was stunning. My husband and I enjoyed from the moment we arrived to be greeted by a lovely guy - Ryan - who gave us a thorough tour of the hotel. He looked smart and was very friendly. Both restaurants were stunning. Food was excellent as was the service. Log fires were warm and welcoming. Staff were lovely.

The room was slightly small and the bathroom was very small.

A lovely location and so attractive being only two stories high. Everyone was most obliging and the facilities were good.

The purpose of our stay was to celebrate my wife's birthday but the main restaurant was closed on Monday and Tuesday. The weather was poor but what else can you expect for February? The bedroom was hot at night.

Great experience. Very relaxing feeling, up market without being pretentious. For someone who spends a lot of time living out of hotels for work, this hotel still feels like a proper break, and not just another hotel to stay the night.

Not cheap, include the restaurant for a meal for two and you can easily pay £400 - £500 a night. But you do get what you pay for.

They make much if their Michelin star, on our visit the Burlington Restaurant was closed both nights. No warning, no apology !! The alternative Bistro was so bad we refused to pay and cancelled our booking for our second night when we were hosting friends - went to Ilkley instead. Unfortunate the Spa is in a separate building across the main road, much less attractive than in the main hotel, especially if the weather is bad. I think they should alter their website to be more honest and upfront with potential customers.

Warm and friendly welcome. The extra touches and the service is first class. The food is exceptional.We were disappointed the Burlington restaurant was closed during our stay as we have dined there before, but the Brasserie was excellent and the food absolutely delicious. We could not fault the cleanliness and comfort of our room. We cannot wait to stay again!

Our stay was for a birthday surprise and I requested some vip treatment to make the occasion as special as possible. I was blown away to be upgraded and to find a birthday message left from everyone at The Devonshire Arms also ice bucket with champagne in the room. My only grumble was at breakfast where I needed to ask for a clean knife mine had dried egg yolk on the handle. Also when my breakfast of poached eggs and smoked haddock arrived it was cold and tepid, as if it had been hanging around in the kitchen for the full english breakfast which my partner ordered to be ready, so that they could be served at the same time. Strangely the plate was warm but this didn't help keep warm or heat the food. A great shame as I didn't enjoy it at all and I'm sure it would have been wonderful served hot. I didn't send it back, as I would have liked to, as this would have left my partner eating alone or having waiting to be served with another breakfast. Hope this helps.

A superb location and very welcoming hotel with very comfortable rooms and lounges with log fires. The staff were extremely helpful. The food was very well presented. Unfortunately didn't get chance to sample the Health Barn but, it looked great.

So over-priced it's untrue! Drinks are expensive and so is the food for what it is. And don't go out walking for the day expecting a hearty Yorkshire meal in the evening even in the Brasserie. Portions are small and everything is extra! You're certainly paying a premium for the location and "Devonshire/Chatsworth" connection

Friendly and efficient reception [Ryan is exceptional]. Spa services [Amy is a delight]. Breakfast selection and quality of food and presentation. Food selection [lunch & dinner]. Wine selection.

A better 'eye' for cleanliness in the Bistro [too many food crumbs on many of the seats in the evening]. Where is the breakfast kedgeree? [A country hotel with no kedgeree, tut-tut...]

Very warm welcome and exceptional staff, open fires and excellent food, a very relaxing atmosphere and everything you could want for a luxury break.

We booked one meal in the Burlington Restaurant and this was amazing. We also ate in the Brasserie on the second night and again the food was excellent. We used the Chauffeur service and again this was excellent. We enjoyed the whole experience at the Devonshire Arms and will definitely try and get another weekend there soon.

Friendly staff, superb food, perfect, relaxing setting. Perfect for an anti-stress weekend getaway.

Quality in all areas. Fine Dining was an experience worth repeating. Staff levels, training and attitude were excellent. The Brasserie also maintained high standards completing a memorable weekend.

The housekeeper should maintain a better grip on the quality of the returned laundry.
