The surrounding countryside
Instructions on how to find the property were totally inadequate. Some signage would be good. The Dortry was a great disappointment in many ways:- The whole place had a most unpleasant smell-source unknown. It is very shabby and run-down. Despite being expected, the fridge was turned off... Chipped plates- Ugh! This was an extremely amateurish offering of accommodation in every aspect. Most disappointing. We could not face a second night.
Location and size of property - perfect for a couple. Lovely countryside in the area and hosts very pleasant. Only 10 minutes drive to town but still rural which was nice. Chocolates and eggs were a nice touch. Excellent heating and hot shower. Our dog loved walking up the hills.
Property could do with a light refresh on the outside (coat of paint) and wifi would be a very helpful addition. Stairs steep, but managable with care. Suggest adding a sofa and coffee table upstairs and some proper recycle bins. Some outside patio furniture would be good.
Thank you for your hospitality, the eggs and chocolates went down a treat. Lovely location for local landscapes, peace and quiet.
This cottage was just perfect for what we wanted - a lazy weekend away! It was totally secluded and all you could hear were the birds and the sheep. The cottage has loads of helpful maps and leaflets to make planning your trip easy. Having no television downstairs was really refreshing.. we had the log burner going and played old boardgames. The views from the hill above the cottage were beautiful! Definitely recommend taking the walk up the bridleway. We had a really lovely time and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet weekend away.
This is probably my own fault for not doing enough research but we found it quite tricky to find good dog walking spots.. although our dog was very well behaved on her lead around the local sheep we were too scared to let her off her lead just in case.. and a lot of the local footpaths had signs about keeping dogs on leads.. this meant our dog was pretty restless all weekend. So anyone travelling with a dog...do more research for dog walks!
The hand made furniture.
The stairs were too steeep and risky. The bed was unconfoirtable. Alexandra was dissmisive of our concerns.
just love the feel of the location, so very peaceful just sitting out looking down the valley watching all the wildlife
Amazing location Cottage was perfect Working log burner All expected amenities Parking Lovely long walks
I am struggling to think of anything!
Very nice place would... recommend and return!
cosy, romantic getaway
The location was amazing with stunning views. Getting to feed the birds every morning and the silence and darkness at night was wonderful. It was a home from home and the best feeling ever being able to snuggle Infront of the log burner. The handmade decorations and furniture were beautiful and the facilities had everything needed to cook, clean, entertain and relax. A perfect getaway.
If I had to say one thing it would be that the towels were a little rough for me, however, my partner was fine with them. Its more a personal preference.
Communicative hosts: emailed us before hand to send us directions to the cottage. A warm welcome with welsh cakes and some of their organic hen's eggs. A beautiful place, cosy cottage, close to amenities like Llandrindod Wells's shops and Kington's quirky grocers and cafes, as well as the famous Stagg at Titley which we treated ourselves to (but had to save-up for lol) We had some great walks on the back hills and the bridle ways, and also visited Ludlow and its food centre. Mid-Wales is a great place for food ! There were plenty DVD's there as well, and many books of all subjects some of which surprised us! We are very grateful to Alexandra and Barry for making us feel welcome, our stay agreeable and the wild birds, entertaining us at the window sil! (inc nuthatch, wood pecker and jay!)
All was fine for us - had we any complaints we would have told them at the time - no point doing it when it is too late!
Beautiful countryside surrounding, very friendly and welcoming owners, beautiful cosy peaceful cottage. Eggs and cakes a nice welcoming touch and the birdlife right outside the window is a treat to see. Lots of things to do locally including fishing and visiting the red-kite centre, walking opportunities and lots to do in the local spa town.Time your visit right and you may get to sample the chocolates and confectionery handcrafted by the owners and available to buy to take home with you!! Well worth a visit-have been before and will definitely be returning again. Thanks Alexandra and Barry.
We love the location, the wildness of the cottage a real get away....
Almost everything. A very warm welcome from the owners. Terrific views, complete relaxation.
Not recommended for a motorbike in snowy or icy weather due to the last bit being quite a steep hill.
The scenery, the tranquility, beautiful countryside and our cosy cottage of course and fresh eggs and Welsh Cakes from Alexandra and Barry
Bed was good, location was good for us.
The front door that wouldn't open fully, no laundry, dangerous stairway, no fresh towels or rubbish removed. A room rate of something like £60 per night would reflect the offer more fairly. Gps coordinates were some 300 yards short of the destination which meant we had to go back and ask neighbours for directions.
