This charming, ancient island inn is now an award-winning boutique hotel.
Score from 136 reviews Superb
Room (very nice bathroom, plenty of towels, dressing gown, tea, coffee, biscuits, iron, hairdryer, big TV, very quiet at night), public spaces (well heated), restaurant (very comfortable chairs), bar (cheerful venue, lovely view).
Room was cold on arrival, which meant that bed was as well. Maybe the room could be heated a little longer before arrival (after all, we are southern softies). Room did heat up during stay, but one small radiator for such a big room is probably insufficient,
Very friendly staff and superb bedroom.
Can't think of anything.
recently modernized so every thing is clean and works properly. staff are friendly and obliging. location at pier head is convenient for the ferry with lovely views
no ceiling light in entrance way to room making wardrobe hard to see into.
Staff and location
Helpful friendly welcoming reception staff. Bar staff efficient and helpful not over attentive or patronising. Breakfast staff attentive welcoming pleasant and polite.
Nothing leave it as is.
Just returned from a one night stay and cannot fault the Douglas Hotel, it was perfect
Lovely little bar. Really comfy bed.
Could not find one fault with the hotel. Room was lovely with lots of lovely touches. Staff were really nice and very helpful. Food was fantastic. Really great hotel and great location.
Could not find one fault.
Usual friendly staff at check in. Lovely room. Tasty shortbread.
Lack of pastries in continental breakfast selection.
Everything but disappointed at view of blank wall.
View from window
We loved the location - just drive off the ferry and you're at the hotel! Room and bathroom were spacious, modern and luxurious. We ate in the Bistro and the bar and food was equally good in both, with plenty of menu choices. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
Comfortable pleasant surroundings with good food and excellent service - also good location
Pillows were not to our liking - too big and unwieldy hot water to shower and bathroom slow to heat in morning
All staff warm, welcoming, and very efficient. Lovely comfortable bedroom though not great view!. Delicous breakfast served by pleasant staff and plenty of it!
No complaints!, hotel very comfortable and staff superb!
Friendly attitude of the staff
Hotel decor really nice. Staff friendly. Relaxed atmosphere. Food really great.
Helpful and friendly staff. Spacious room with a wonderful view of Brodick Bay and Goat Fell. Food excellent and served in pleasant surroundings
A chair or stool in the bathroom would have been useful. A small armchair in the bedroom would have been preferable to the 2 seater sofa.
Great welcome by staff. Loved the room allocated, spacious and very quiet. Meals in dinning room - good. Breakfast was cooked to order with great selection. Staff very attentive.
Coffee/tea stain on carpet let it down. Bar menu limited choice.
We had a great 3 day break at the Douglas in mid-September. We loved the huge comfortable bed and bedroom; great bathroom. And having silence at night ...Cheerful, caring staff looked after us and anything we wanted to know. We particularly enjoyed seeing Goatfell from our bedroom, especially after we'd climbed it! Would very happily go back...
Music in public areas - music at breakfast especially annoying!
The room was wonderful, with a beautiful view.. the breakfast selection was perfect for us..staff were polite and friendly.
At breakfast , the toaster was not much use... very very slow, actually made me uncomfortable waiting for it to be done and keeping others waiting..
Exceptional staff, room, and bistro. Best hotel you could ask for.
The view from the window of room 103 and the size of the room. The bar and the restaurant were great.
Everything about the Douglas hotel was as i had expected it to be. The room was very clean with all items you would need while staying were in the room. Bathroom large shower easy to use very clean. The Bed large and comfortable plenty of pillows and cushions. The room overall was very quite as i had asked for. The food was excellent and you were given enough to eat it was well cooked and the service was excellent There was parking for the disabled as my wife and i found we did not have far to walk. I will be staying at The Douglas Hotel again and again Thank you from four satisfied customers.
There were only a couple of things we did not like they were the internet was not great we found getting connected was next to impossible but it would be difficult anywhere on Arran The other item was we had put the face cloths on the floor but they were just put back on the radiator.
Every aspect of this modern boutique hotel has been thought through. Great restaurant with a small menue (and wine list) which allows for focus on quality.
Location was excellent, staff very friendly and welcoming. Great views, nice restaurant and very well presented rooms
Bit too warm on the second floor and it did effect sleep a bit.
We particularly liked the comfort of the bed .shower was excellent.
No proper lounge for residents to have a pre dinner drink away from the bar with t.v.
