Nothing...!!!! "It did exactly what it said on the tin"
The Earl is very close to Cambridge Station. We were visiting for the Robert Plant concert and this offered everything we needed - it was clean, comfortable and great value.
Friendly staff. Great breakfast.
The pub downstairs offers excellent food and drinks, atmosphere is great and breakfast was delicious. Car park is great advantage in this location, no need to look for parking spaces on streets.
I have stayed there once before.a very welcoming and clean place.
TV is to small
A good size room and very comfortable. Parking excellent
Parking included Good standard rooms Convenient
prompt attention on arrival even though the bar was busy. Pleasant staff at breakfast.
Proximity to his halls of residence. All the facilities we needed excellent breakfast.
Free car park and wi-fi
For the price £85/£95 I thought the room could have been a bit more up to date. Also cleanliness was poor. The tea tray was dirty n stained. Carpet not vacuumed. Had a button on floor stayed 2 nights and it was still on floor when we left. Shampoo bottle that was provided by the hotel whivh we used on 1st morning was not disposed off so i would presume toilet was cleaned the 2 days of our stay. Very noisy as it was a pub and our room was over a part of pub plus the traffic noise was horrendous. On the whole it was a bad experience and would recommend the hotel to anyone. It would have been better to stay at the travel lodge just a bit further. The hotel site on the computer is very deceiving
location breakfast parking on-site
THIS IS A NO NONSENSE OVERNIGHT FACILITY WITH ROOMS EITHER OVER THE PUB OR NEXT DOOR. HELPFUL STAFF WHO SOURCED ME SANDWICHES FOR BREAKFAST AS I HAD TO LEAVE BEFORE THE USUAL FRY-UP
Great location; clean en-suite rooms with everything you need and a very comfortable and big bed. The pub downstairs was cozy and had OK pub food. All you need for a short stay and reasonably priced too in Cambridge-terms.
The breakfast could have started a bit earlier (is now on from 7.30 am) to cater for those with an early start. It did look great though.
very friendly and felt very welcome , food was excellent would definately visit again
could hear the traffic at night but not to keep us wake,
Hot freshly cooked breakfast and plenty of free parking onsite
The room had an awful pungent stench, a cross between stale cooking fat and stale sweat. The pillows were literally one centimetre thick! Noisy as no double glazing.
Location of hotel Easy parking Excellent shower
Much too noisy - lots of noise from the pub below. Room decor severe Loose toilet seat Slight carpet odour TV too small Loose electrical power socket No written information on facilities, menus, fire escapes etc
Breakfast was average, no offers of extra toast or any sign of jam.Personal taste for both of us is crispy bacon and it wasn't.
The Earl of Derby is a down to earth, basic pub and accommodation. We weren't expecting much so we weren't disappointed. It's a 20 minute walk straight into Cambridge city centre. When we arrived, we were given a room in a different annexe away from the rest of our family but that was remedied when we pointed out that the booking stated differently. Room facilities were good and free Wi-Fi great. Breakfast is okay and you can have this till 11.30 a.m.so no rush. The official tour by tourist information around Cambridge was great and so was the Hallowe'en tour although not much can top Derby when it comes to hauntings!
The fixtures and fittings in the room need updating. The cleanliness was okay but could be a bit better particularly in the bathroom. The location is a bit far if you're walking backwards and forwards to Cambridge but we found a bus that got us there. It's just as cheap to get a taxi if there are four of you. The pub itself seems to cater for a variety of clientele and there were quite a few workmen.
Close to train station. Could leave luggage there as we arrivied early. They even carried them up to our room which was nice. Full English breakfast makes you full.
No early breakfast on Sunday. Separate taps for hot and cold water. Not so clean room and bathroom.
Really nice, big breakfast and a big room.
Traffic a bit noisy for people staying the room next to the road.
Genuine kindly & informative staff. Excellent pub grub food, easy car parking, good location not far from centre, excellent value for a city, had a good quiet night's sleep.
Staff friendly and helpful good facilities and food
Tiny tv in the room
Only place available; near rail station
Not near university; food so-so
convenient, clean and tidy, kind and helpful staff, close to train station, 15 min walk to city center, excellent english breakfast
I was a little concerned the room would be noisy since it was on top of a bar, but it was sufficiently tucked away that I slept well and felt safe which was important since I was a female traveling alone.
Biggest cause for complaint was the check in. The pub was packed when I came by to check in, with a bunch of burly looking dudes that I had to fight through to get to the bar to check in. It would have been helpful to know from the beginning that I did indeed need to check in with the bar staff, since even though an "inn" is traditionally rooms above a bar, I've never had experience with this and didn't know where I was going.
