Great room. Excellent reception staff. A very nice place to stay.
Nice bar and breakfast.
Room 2 very noisy - directly opposite the roundabout .Plus room lighting very poor only 4 lights. Impossible to read a newspaper on the bed suggest higher wattage . Of the 4 lights only 3 worked . Reported to reception .
great room, comfy bed & great food
Rooms, Bar good food.
Noisy plumbing but it is an old building.
Loved the enormous bed in our huge room. Probably the best hotel bed in the world. Dinner and breakfast menus were interesting and the food high quality. Can recommend the venison.
Tiny car park although large public one adjacent. Black tiled bathroom but excellent plumbing and loads of hot water.
The room size was good and also the size of the bathroom. The staff were welcoming. The location in central Pangbourne was excellent for our needs. There was plenty of choice of drinks on the bedroom tray.
I don't like seeing sediment in the bottom of a jug of orange. This means it has been standing perhaps overnight. The sauce had also settled in the little pot of beans on my breakfast! The extractor fan in the bathroom didn't seem to work. Lime scale on shower door. Bath chipped. Corners of bathroom wanted cleaning. Lumps of fluffy dust attached to the bedside lamp. Blind wanted repairing. On the whole the place could have benefited from a bit of TLC. It was just tired.
Friendly staff; excellent food; quirky ambience a really nice change from bland Hiltonia; nice and quiet in spite of main road position
Lovely grounds, can enter garden from your own room.
Friendly helpful staff, food,l ovely soft towels, bedding excellent. Full breakfast excellent.Room 15 nice and large but subject to traffic noise. Avoid room 11.
Dark rooms, poor lighting, bathroom could do with an uplift,( toilet seat, ventilation, tooth glasses, shelf in shower etc )Rather pricey at £130 per night.
I loved the elephant theme, the soft pillows and duvet, the asian furniture, and the large comfortable bed. The bathroom was spacious, and well-stocked, as was the courtesy tray. We were enchanted by the quirky and authentic elephant styling, and we were sad to leave! Thank you!
It's just a small element, but the bedroom door lock was rather tricky. Also, some corners of the bathroom needed a bit of cleaning attention, but we appreciated that this room was quite old. Those two aforementioned items in no way detracted from our very happy overnight stay at The Elephant, and we will certainly recommend it widely. Thank you!
Not a great view out of the window - but then we were only staying for one night so it didn't matter!
Staff very pleasant, Restaurant Breakfast excellent, Dinner very good but pricy.
Room small, Dark decor,Chair seat 'Rattan' had large hole, Wardrobe catch very difficult to open. Bathroom Plumbing very poor WATER HAMMER IN PIPES VERY LOUD. As an old building it had many levels and stairs. Parking limited.
Big comfortable bed. Good tea and coffee facilities in room.
Everything about the hotel was brilliant. More like a 5 star hotel!!
The location was perfect for us. We were visiting friends who live in the next village, which was only 15 mins walk away. The walk over the Thames was lovely and my other half counted SIX pubs during the walk. If that's your thing !
Even though the room was lovely No6. It was rather dark and not so good for putting your make up on. Bit more lighting would be perfect.
A truly exceptional place to stay - from the friendly and very helpful staff, excellent and locally sourced food to the most comfortable bedrooms with the best mattresses ever and clean and modern bathroom. We loved the feeling of the far east with all the little touches throughout the hotel - it reminded us of the Raffles chain - and theprice was amazing given that it is August - just £67 per night for a room and full English breakfast which was utterly delicious on both days. We had a flat tyre the morning we left and they could not have been more helpful in supplying a foot pump (too flat for that) and arranging a local garage to arrive almost immediately to change the tyre to the spare of our hire car which delayed us almost not at all. The bar prices were also very reasonable. This is a real find and we shall certainly return.
Nothing - even the disco for a wedding party ended at just before midnight.
Just perfect, great stylish, very comfortable room. Wonderful service, unflappable receptionist (last minute booking & PCs had frozen). An absolute pleasure to stay here.
The size and comfort of the bed, though the pillows were too soft. Lots of hot running water and a powerful shower. The room was clean. The breakfast was well cooked and tasty. They also let my husband combine two cooked options to take into account his egg alergy. The position of the hotel in Pangbourne.
Booked for Friday and Saturday night. We were in a room in the annex, and the member of staff who booked us in remarked that these rooms tended to be quieter. On the Friday there was a BBQ in the garden until late with lots of noise, on the Saturday a wedding reception - music blaring until midnight, and even worse, drunk guests shouting and laughing right underneath our window. The extra people at the wedding meant that there was no parking space for us - we had to pay to park on the village hall car park next door, which was then free after 6pm. The room itself was the most depressing shade of grey I have ever come across. The bathroom was OK but there was no plug so a bath was out of the question, and the grouting needed a good clean. The bar area was frankly shabby, as were the lobby areas of the annex - tattered carpet and a lot of stains and scuff marks. Whilst the meal we had in the bar on the Friday evening was OK it was pricey for what it was. The bar was lacking in atmosphere, and the bar staff competent but lacking warmth and friendliness. It would have been nice to be able to sit in one of the other available guest areas but this was impossible as these were taken over by wedding guests. Had I have known about the wedding in advance I would NOT have booked with The Elephant. Very corporate, a good choice for business perhaps, but not for romance, or peace and quiet!
Great hotel, comfy beds, breakfast was lovely.
The rooms were quite warm in the summer
Nice individual rooms. Beautiful garden.
Public areas were shabby and in need of an update. Restaurant was more like a refectory and breakfast was poor. Bar area was also like a public bar of yore! Not comfy at all. Had the weather been bad we would have had to go elsewhere for a drink.
The food in the bar was very poor, also the annexe rooms are too noisy, as they overlook the garden, especially if there is a wedding on.
Very friendly and helpful
Nice comfortable hotel providing a convenient stop on the Thames Path. Good food and friendly and helpful staff. Loved the elephant theme.
A quiet room and comfortable bed
No help with suitcases up fairly steep stairs. Picnic lunch not possible despite being assured on the telephone that it was "no problem"!
Beautiful and comfortable!
