The Elms Hotel  

Very pleasant staff, easy location to find, good hotel provided you are just looking for a bed and not interested in other things (we weren't as we were there for a wedding so just needed somewhere to sleep. There is a great pub/restaurant alongside the hotel which is good value for money offering meals at 2 for £10.

On arrival we had showers which were cold so asked staff to have a look, which they did. However the next morning again freezing cold showers!! On this occasion it took about an hour for some one to come to sort it out. However it was sorted in the end. When booking I had specified that we would be bringing a travel cot for our son so would need extra room. However we had to move the bed and still had only just enough room to squeeze the travel cot between the bed and the wall. In that room we thought we could trust to leave our house keys etc and laptop so had done so as to avoid the car being broken into, yet we found the room door unlocked when we arrived back at the hotel at 12pm. Someone had been in to replace towels etc and had not locked the room door behind them. We were out of the room from 2pm and with the rooms being on a separate block to the reception there would be no stopping anyone walking into that block and our room. I made a complaint about this the following morning as was told the matter would be arisen so hopefully more care will be taken in the future.

I found it hard to find fault with this hotel. Apart from the odd minor defect everything was much to my liking and if this were insufficient to describe my one night stay, I came away feeling as though I'd had a real break. The location is great for anyone seeking a bit of peace and quite and the historical eliment adds to the appeal. The staff I found very eager to help and they gave very professional service. They also treated me with a great deal of respect. I already have in mind another stay.

The floors of the room creaked a little bit too much which for a long stay would be somewhat irritating.

No staff turned up in the morning to do the breakfasts for all the guests , they said she had an accident on the way to work however they should of had a back up system !

All the staff were very helpful and pleasant, and breakfast was very good with plenty of variety. The room was spotless, with lovely fresh towels, we did have a small problem getting the shower to work (it was a bit stiff), but someone came and sorted it out very quickly. The location is lovely with lots of room in the car park, which is very well lit. We were attending an antique fair and Lincoln Xmas market, and it was very easy to get from the hotel to both venues. Lots of variety in the evening menu with a two meals for £10 offer, and all of the ones we tried were delicious. Could not fault the food at all. Excellent value for money.

Very nice rooms along with a very warm and helpful reception food in restaurant was excelent and extremely good value for money quite location and grounds with easy parking stayed in room 14 which was of a high standard with its own sitting room so you could relax easily just a shame we couldnt stay longer perhaps next time. Enjoy staff worked realy hard and were always very helpful

We booked the elms because my husband spent a lot of time there as a teenager when his uncle was landlord captain and mrs mcmillen.we went with old photo,s which the staff were very interested.We stayed in the stable block it was very warm cozy and clean we have friends in retford so will be staying their again.

While visiting my son, he kindly booked us in here. It is our second visit and I was a bit nervous after our last time. We stayed in room 15(ground floor). The room was lovely, nice modern decor and a fantastic shower and a decent size flat screen tv. I cannot fault the place, it seems they obviously have listened to the countless complaints and negative reviews and done something about it. We ate there on Friday night and everyone enjoyed our meals, breakfast was good too with a nice continental selection for the wife while I had a fry up. Staff were freindly throughout and were very helpful when we asked them to find a taxi. The next time we are in Retford we will definately try to book here again

Since the last time I stayed, the rooms have been decorated and are of a much better quality, the beds are new and the bathrooms just how one would expect a hotel to be. Very comfortable, clean and welcoming

The best feature about the Elms is that it didn't feel like part of a characterless chain. The staff were also very good.

I was only using my room to sleep, so I didn't have high expectations but not even having a 'phone in the room seemed ridiculous. There was an old tv with no remote that didn't even work on my last morning. A light bulb needed replacing, The shower was held together with duct tape so I couldn't move the shower head. The bed covers smelled damp, so I got them replaced. The general effect was dark and dingy. The receptionist told me that the hotel is being completely refurbished (the week after my stay), so I'm curious to see whether that happens.

Was very clean and convenient. Comfortable and quiet as well

Room in very poor condition. Shower wouldn't operate effectively, decor very shabby, most lights didn't work.
