Rooms a l;ittle tired
Staff were helpful
The bed's headboard was not fixed to the wall properly and banged the wall every time I sat on the bed. When I investigated why, one end of the headboard fell off and crashed to the floor- dangerous. Reception desk fixed it and offered me another room but I stayed in the original room as it was quiet but I guess the maintenance is not too careful as shown by the squeaky hinges on the fire doors-easily fixed! On arrival at car-park one is greeted by very unwelcoming 'Pay & Display' notices but which in small writing say hotel guests are free. Receptionists' office is absolutely dismal and depressing and I feel sorry for them. One meal ordered in the restaurant was noodles & duck which was absolutely abysmal and cold with very little leathery duck. The waiter told the chef and the very nice female manager apologised and took the charge off the bill which was the right way to handle it. I spend most of my life in Japan and the Far East and can assure you that so-called Asian fusion food simply does not work. The manageress agreed completely. The menus had far too many dishes and hard to read in small print on patterned paper. The chef should stick to proper English country pub food and it will be a great improvement. Ask Gordon Ramsay!
All staff very friendly and helpful. Nice quiet room and plenty of hot water. Although there is a notice on the bathroom wall saying that the bath is slippery there is no bathmat or handrail fitted. Very good breakfast.
Service from all the staff was amazing ! Manager went out of his way to help . We were a wedding party group who may have been noisy and late coming in but we're still served breakfast in the morning .
Hotel is way past it's 'sell by date'! In urgent need of refurbishment. Generally grubby in appearance.
Staff, in particular Cheryl in Reception, are a credit to the hotel.
Corridors and woodwork generally are drab battleship grey....boring. Furniture in bar and restaurant needs replacing. There was a very expensive heat and air conditioner in our room....loads of buttons to press but no instructions..so waste of space. No shelves in an otherwise good bathroom.
The staff were excellent, particularly reception, breakfast waiter, housekeeper and most of bar staff. Room was good but needed a few refinements in bathroom, like a shelf or two to put things on and an extra towel rail. Bed and pillows very comfortable and slept like a log ( woke up in the fireplace !! sorry!). Restaurant pretty good. Despite its slightly fading appearance it has a great charm.
The bathroom was looking a little tired, but even so spotlessly clean.
The room was very stylish and clean, and bed very comfortable. The Staff could not do enough to help, and the food in the restaurant was really good value. We would certainly stay again.
Staff very hepful and friendly.Close proximity to railway station
The bed needed replacing and the pillows were lumpy.
The hotel is conveniently located. The dinner was acceptable. The staff were very pleasant
Comfortable bed and great shower . It was clean and nice location, staff helpful .
The mattress was appalling , like being on a boat and the bathroom seriously dated and they should supply binoculars to see the TV
very cold room and bathroom with no bath chain on plug we used a spoon to remove plug. No phone in bedroom
Tiolets don't flush well,
Location & Free Parking
Please put biscuits in the room...the hotel used to do that!
Friendly staff and location for local and City visits
Quiet room well located hotel with close proximity to many restaurants.Good value for this area.
The staff were so friendly and helpful and make me feel at home
Some of the furniture and fittings getting a little tired in the lounge and restaurant.
Helpful, cheerful staff. Comfortable room. Good food. Easy parking.
Nice hotel comfortable and staff are great food is very good and priced well so you can eat on a company set budget
Breakfast not good. Coooked breakfast OK but nothing to shout about. Continental breakfast serlection very limited. Croissants in cellophane wrap, not fresh. No fresh fruit although this was on menu. Rooms were made up every day, but service was haphazard with beds not properly made, towles changed although we did not require it, no milk or tea replenishment in room etc.
Lovely old building with lots of character in a great location and very convenient for trains to London. Friendly staff, clean with good facilities.
Rump steak in resturante ,not the best quality
Location , car parking, value for money,
Odd smell in the corridors and bathroom very outdated and in need of a good clean
Great location for catching the train into London.
Perfect location for us to visit family. Comfortable and great breakfast! Extra pillows provided when requested.
Disturbed by someone's car alarm going off 5 times in the car park on our first night! We must have been just unlucky.
The shower in the room was wonderful! The food in the restaurant was really excellent too. The staff were really polite.
I absolutely love the ethorpe its very tranquill amazing food lovely rooms and brilliant staff especially the lady on reception unfortunately i dont know her name but very funny and friendly
Noise in the night. Guest book says phone '0' for reception. No phone in the room. Had to leave small child in the room alone and walk down to reception in the middle of the night.
We always stay in the Tudor room but on the last visit a couple of things were wrong. Such as the Jacuzzi bath can only be turned on from the bedroom now as the button in the bath doesn't work anymore so it's an inconvenience to have to get in and out to turn the jets on and off. Also when having a shower the water would not drain away so the water spilled out onto the floor
We love the Jacuzzi bath and the bed is so comfy the food is also really nice and good value for money. We always stay in the Tudor room whenever we visit the Ethorpe hotel
