5* luxury in the country. Service was exemplary, food superb and the rooms spacious and clean. All round a very good pick for our visit to Yorkshire. Not one negative about the place.

Fantastic food - the atmosphere is relaxed ,service excellent, very friendly and helpful staff, and the quality of the dinner we had in the evening was excellent. Our room was neat, clean with a good ensuite I would recommend the Fairfax as a great stay! Nothing!

We stayed at fairfax arms after a trip mountain biking in dalby forest. The staff were more than accommodating with ensuring our bikes were secure for the night and extremely helpful when we got there. We had a fantastic stay, the food was excellent, the room was small but tastefully decorated and the service was brilliant- particularly from such young members of staff. It was nice and refreshing to see young girls clearly enjoying their jobs and using common sense to tend to our needs rather than regurgitating lines from a customer service/managerial course which you find in larger hotels. The attention to detail wa second to none- from the size of the wine glasses and fluffiness of the towels to the quality of the toilet paper and oversized giant cookies as part of the tea service in the rooms. The overriding bonus of the stay and dinner in the pub/restaurant was the buzzing but relaxed atmosphere throughout the place. We can't quite put our finger on why we enjoyed our stay so much (although all of the above certainly helped!) but we left with a feeling of wanting to return sometime in the future. Overall, can't praise it enough- the Fairfax arms is a real gem in the middle of Yorkshire. Nothing we didn't like. Only suggestion would be to have a small fridge outside the rooms for fresh milk for tea/to chill some cheeky champagne etc. This was available at another B&B we've stayed at and just adds a bit of extra convenience.

Lovely hotel - they had thought of everything - free bike hire, free dvd rentals and all the staff (the cleaners, too) gave excellent service and were always friendly, chatty and gave us suggestions on where to go/what to do. Amazing food - breakfast and reasonably priced dinner and a lovely room. And amazing scenery! We had such an amazing first weekend away together for a great price! Only one problem which was that our double bed was two single beds put together which created a very uncomfy gap. However, the staff did all they could to solve this and make it better for us, but it was still a bit uncomfy.

Comfortable room, with choice of pillows!! Fabulous breakfast and an excellent menu for evening meals with many specials of the day. Great location for York, North Yorks Moor and even the coast. Though the staff were very polite and efficient, the owner/manager didn't introduce themselves

We really liked the cosy feel of the room and pub, and the fact that the owners had thought of everything we might need in the room. The bed!!! It looked very inviting with lovely fluffy pillows and beautiful bedding, it was a very poor quality mattress which lead to a poor nights sleep.

Excellent village location close to National Trust properties, Helmsley and North York Moors. Easy day trip to York. Comfortable, well designed bedroom. Tasteful decor, clean, nice touches E.G. fresh fruit, bottled water and ground coffee. Modern bathroom with a shower that actually works! White Company toiletries. Excellent breakfast. Well kept local real ale - Black Sheep. Very good food at competitive price. Good suggestions for things to do and see in the area. Excellent value as we booked on a secret deal offer. Car park small, but some room in front of pub and in side road.

The staff are welcoming and friendly and professional. The food is excellent, good choice and well presented. Good choice of rooms, all well decorated, beautiful bathrooms, but still retaining old world charm and hospitality. Really enjoyed our stay. We chose a standard double, which was a lovely room, but if you are used to a king size bed, book the superior rooms. This is the only negative we can give, the bed wasn't big enough.

The staff were very pleasant and couldn't do enough for you; nice old building; comfortable bed and lovely white crisp bedding and towels; picturesque setting Full English breakfast was bland, which put us off having dinner there; only two tables to sit at in the bar area; Black Sheep pub ran out of Black Sheep on the second night!; cleaners champing at the bit to get into your room straight after breakfast; pricey, given the above

Room well prepared, warm and inviting. Great coffee maker. Big flat screen TV and access to free DVDs. iPOD player. Comfortable beds. Roomy. All of the staff were excellent. The food in the restaurant. Great cooked breakfast. Great value. Not much to not like: room didn't have a fridge to cool drinks, more fruit and choice for the first breakfast course, carpet breakfast room covered in food dropped by other guests.

The staff were fantastic - polite, friendly, welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. Food excellent too. Fab atmosphere in bar/lounge/restaurant areas. Love the olde worlde charm and decor. Very much like the 18th century? inn it once was - unspoilt and perfect. Would visit again. Would have priced the room at £75.00 rather than £95.00. Think the walk in shower should have a glass screen rather than a cheap shower curtain, shame because the sink was very modern and high class with unusual tap - liked it. Staff had forgotten to put water and biscuits in the room when serviced and there were clothes from the previous guest in the wardrobe! However, the staff/Manager soon rectified the situation - water and biscuits arrived and a complimentary bottle of wine.

The friendly atmosphere. The excellent food. The comfortable room. These things didn't particularly spoil our stay, but we would have liked :- A proper wardrobe, a full size bath, and maybe a fridge in the room.
