Set in 19 acres of beautiful tranquil parkland, yet only one minutes’ walk from Hitchin town square, this attractive hotel was originally a Carmelite monastery built in 1317.
Score from 482 reviews Good
All clean and tidy, nice heating, good shower, chalet type room, which appealed to me.
Got a bit lost, but was the end of 190 mile journey near the end of the day, sat nav got me there but entrance sign did not stand out, again it was dark, so thought sat nav was playing.
Clean Bathroom Comfortable Bed
Very thin walls so noisy
Sound proofing bad could hear everything in other room woke by noise .
Layout of the bathroom was not very good, wash basin far too small. TV very small. Not worth £70 per night.
The staff were really great.
Lack of wine fi
Nice view over golf course Good wifi Big, clean bathroom
There were no staff on the premises during the night. Room wasn't very soundproof, able to hear people from the restaurant/bar.
Good location Nice views
Convoluted route to and from room Could not pay by credit card as machine not working.
Bedroom was clean and maid made up room every day.
The bar and restaurant areas and outside of buildings are all rather shaby and do not relate to the photos supplied on website. It appears the photos were taken a few years ago ! Staff friendly enough but would not recommend
Not much but the room was clean and the view was nice.
Tiny room, need a magnifying glass to watch the tiny TV, room was under the outside deck of the club bar, beer bottles dropped from above during the evening onto the path outside the room, vomit on the path to our car was still there at 1030 the next morning. They turn the wifi off during the night. Noisy Garden machinery at 0430 am.
Friendly people ...
Would have been almost £90.00 with breakfast ...
Nice to look out onto the golf course in the morning and the room was clean..
Room very bare& comfortless. I was quite scared walking round to our room in the dark as the 2 flights of stone steps were not lighted & other lights did not come on ahead of us to light our way. Bathroom door would not close & shower door was hanging off.
Menu could have been greater..we stayed for a full week...menu became small quickly
The location and the breakfast
The noise of other residents at 3.30am
Thank you very much to the person who managed to change my booking from the Sat eve to the Sun eve when I discovered I'd got dates mixed up. Very much appreciated his help and speed sorting it out! Other staff were also friendly and helpful and the room was exactly what we were after :)
Comfortable room, priced well. Nice outlook over the golf course. Friendly helpful staff.
The upstairs tavern is looking a bit tired and in need of renovation.
Very quiet location next to golf club. Comfortable bed. Good stay.
No decaf coffee.
Clean, lovely view from room
As a female traveller was greeted by comments from male customers each time I walked in. Felt uncomfortable enough that I wouldn't eat in bar. No staff around in morning for my check out - lucky I didn't pay for breakfast as couldn't find any staff in the morning!
The view across the golf course is wonderful. Pleasant clean room. Helpful staff.
One of the beds was uncomfortable.
Location , View , Staff very friendly always there to help
Room got very hot
The smiling helpful and friedly ladies who conducted both check in and breakfast duties the following morning. Specifically the power cut during the start of breakfast was handled with a great attitude by the young lady on duty - we cancelled the full breakfast and recieved our refunds without question and was served tea with a smile and a giggle even though back of house facilities were unavailable - a real credit to the business.
Condition of some room items - little bit of wear and tear showing e.g. broken shower door in room 4 (coincidentally like ours at home so it did actually make us smile!). Some complimentry water would add anice touch especially since it was so hot - one can only drink so much beer!!
The price. Stayed here instead of a hotel at Luton airport. Staff were friendly and helpful.
The wifi did not reach to my room, or was not working. It was OK at the bar though.
situated on edge of town. Quiet.
Bed OK. No extra pillow available in room. Window blind broken. Wouldn't retract.
Location and views Easy free parking Clean Comfortable Good value
Room rather small
The bar was very run down and in poor repair. Such a shame as the location is terrific. Staff were not very friendly upon arrival. Breakfast wasn't very nice. Won't be staying again, but it served a purpose.
