The bedrooms are unusual shapes due to the age of the building but they are immaculately clean and well presented . Wonderfully warm on a cold day . Staff most attentive
The room was rather small and cramped although the toilet and bathroom was of a reasonable size and both were clean. There was a comfortable double bed although we had booked a twin room. On arrival we were informed they did not have any twin rooms only a family room which was not available at the time. The evening meal (New Years Day) was very good although naturally rather limited which was expected. Sitting by a real fire with an evening drinks was wonderful. The housekeeper was most apologetic for the dreadful breakfast dreadful situation but was unable was resolve it.
It was a very cold and windy night and the bedroom did not have any double glazing and there were two cracked panes of glass so we did not get much sleep. Breakfast was not acceptable with a few packets of cereals bread rolls and butter with a choice of jams, tea bags and instant coffee. This was not even acceptable as a continental breakfast and we will contacting the hotel direct concerning this matter. At this time I am accordingly unable to give any recommendations for this establishment and am reluctant to return for another dismal night in the future.
Room was clean tidy and warm
Went down to a highly anticipated full English breakfast after reading reviews to be told there was none, as there was no Chef on! Very disappointing as were not informed of this on booking.com or when we checked in! They took £15 off the bill when I said we were paying for "Bed and Breakfast!"
Food was really good
For 150 pounds for dinner bed and breakfast I don't expect a cold room, that wasn't heated when we asked, or snails on the curtains or flaking paintwork .
Very couteous staff. Food good. They even went to local shop to get orange juice for breakfast. Breakfast very good
Small room. Little soap. Hand towel rail loose. Not enough tea bags
most friendly & helpful staff made a woman staying alone feel at ease. food excelent !!. Thank you
Very warm and welcoming
the ambience, the staff and the breakfast
The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean. The food was great and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The room was a bit cold on arrival. But this was soon sorted by the staff turning the heating up.
Was a perfect mid country stopover for us, especially when visiting Hardwick house.
Lovely room, decent enough site, only the beds comfort let us down.
Paid for bed and breakfast, came down at 8 am for breakfast and no sign of staff, kitchen was in darkness and tables had not been cleared from night before. Hung around till 8.15 then left keys on the bar.....not good!!!
location food charm
looking a bit tired
Great Staff & Very Hospitable towards our Dog who was with us.
Food was definitely 4 star. Well presented, tasty food.
Room 1 was nice, communal areas smelt nasty and were dirty and untidy. This is a pub not really a hotel, only nice food rescued it to an ok stay.
All food was excellent
The helpful, friendly staff, the good food, and particularly the quality of the breakfast.
Some early morning traffic noise in the end bedroom we were using - could do with double glazing.
The staff were really friendly.the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was nice
The shower wasnt very powerful
Good location, good food, great breakfast, good value.
Staff, welcome and food are excellent.
Broken WC seat.
The food and the hotel were amazing
The decor in the bathroom was a little dated
The room was clean
Cannot watch TV from bed as its fixed flat to a wall at 90 ' to the bed. At a previous visit the food was good this time it was very poor. The fish was accompanied by deep fried potato skins. At breakfast I scrapped the burnt bits of the sausage but I couldn't face the fried egg as it was almost yellow and full of burnt particles
Arrived late for a quick overnight stop and they were still happy to cook me a meal which was good, excellent food and a great English Breakfast, I also had an extended check out time as my meeting wasn't until the afternoon so I was grateful of using the free WiFi to work from the pub in the morning! Perfect spot for my meeting in Derbyshire and easy access to the M1, I stayed in a large family room and had a very comfy double bed all to myself which was nice so all in all it was a good choice of venue of me :o)
Real Ales available at the bar and the staff were very friendly and helpful
Heating in my room wasn't working properly
no hot water or heating for most of our stay. not enough choice at breakfast.
Good food Very friendly, personal touch
