Room very clean and relaxing. Food very high standard. Good selection of real ales. Very slow breakfast service. Came down at 7.45 , didn't get food until 8.25! 5 mins before we needed to leave. Really spoilt the whole relaxing break.

The quality of the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As a female solo guest you felt very much at home. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast needs to be served on hot plates. The road noise does awake you early.

Location was great for the places I wanted to visit in Derbyshire. The room was spotlessly clean. The food in the bar and restaurant was scrumptious. Breakfast was included and was delicious with homemade sausage and blackpudding and most ofthe food on the menu locally sourced . If you like early nights, ie before 10.30 weekdays, then the noise from the bar might be a problem.

The location was good, they had a great range of beers and the food was excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. We felt the bathroom was a bit dated and the toilet had a bit of a leak, two of the windows were cracked. The corridor outside the room was in need of a spruce up.

The Shoulder at Hardstoft has close proximity to the Derbyshire Peak District; however, unless eating in the hotel restaurant everything is a drive away. Rooms are quite basic and room five is directly overlooking air conditioning units that make a fair bit of noise. It is a 300 year old building which is suffering form damp and therefore the musty smell does permeate the rooms. Do not try to go before 12 noon, even for the toilet, everything is locked up. Furthermore, my partner left a dress in the wardrobe, we tried to contact them for two days, but they appear to be averse to answering telephones.

The service was very good and attentive. We prefer not to have intrusive background muzak and were luckily able to dine in the smaller dining area which was muzak free. The food was excellent at all times.

Possibly new carpet throughout establishment looks tired and worn out does not go with the obvious modern feel created ambience of the restaurant area. Upstairs you could smell dampness straightaway approaching the hall and stairway needs attention.

The food was excellent, very tasty and well presented. The staff were very helpfull and friendly except for one. There was a very unpleasant smell on the landing and stairs. We were expecting 4* accommodation and would not put this room into this category as it was small and quite basic. Plates were cold at breakfast on the Saturday morning and there was no fried bread. No brown toast at breakfast either morning. We were not impressed by the barman on our arrival, he did not make us feel welcome.

The staff Extremely over priced. Door handle falling off bathroom door, shower leaking water from inside the wall unit. No biscuits to have with tea. Food poor. There ambition exceeded there capability. Breakfast on the second day had only half the choices of the first.

The staff were very pleasant and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. The music was intrusive both in the lounge area and in the restaurant. We felt that it was over-priced for accommodation of this type.

Lovely bright room with beautiful view, nice and quiet. Attentive staff. Excellent meal in the restaurant and very nice breakfast. Great value for money. The room was a little warm but the area was quiet enough to have the window open throughout the night.
