For an expensive hotel, the facilities were lacking. No tea and coffee in your room (you could order them though), meagre breakfast, expensive drinks.
Excellent dinner Warm welcome Comfortable and stylish room Excellent shower Free tea or coffee brought by room service instead of a kettle/machine in the room was a nice touch.
The rugs in the downstairs sitting rooms needed a good clean. They really let the ambiance down. We requested crisps or nuts with our famous 6 o'clock gin (delicious!) and were told they didn't have any!
Food was good.
Bedrooms dark and not inviting and the superior room was definitely not superior.
Reception staff were exceptionally couteous and helpful.
Location was excellent and very near to shops - interesting and boutique-type shops and some beautiful art galleries - and Blenheim Palace. The town is most charming.
The room was on the cramped side and very dark - lights needed to be on even in daylight hours. Unhelpful staff when we arrived a little early and asked if we might have a room to change in as we were going to a wedding before the check-in time. We were told we could change in the toilets - and were not impressed. We felt they could have been a little more flexible, especially in a hotel of this calibre. Bacon was seriously black and burnt at breakfast and had to be sent back to the kitchens. Would have preferred tea-making facilities in the room rather than served on request.
comfortable rooms we stayed in a suite. Nice and central for Oxford and Blenhiem Palace.Plenty of Restaraunts and bars. Nice double bath to relax in.Good all round service and excellent breakfast.
nothing all good good good !!!!
Lovely hotel with plenty of friendly staff on hand to make a very relaxing stay. The gin bar is a real novelty and the staff there are very informative in helping you make a choice. The room was lovely and cosy with beamed ceiling, but furnishings and bathroom all very modern and comfortable.
No tea/coffee making facilities in the room, and it was a bit strange having to find on-street parking and having to remember to move!
We loved our room with the beamed vaulted ceiling and view over the courtyard. The Gin Bar was lots of fun, but not cheap! Our meal was excellent quality and value for money on the special offer. Diana/ Brighton
Perhaps tea and coffee in the room would be better than ordering it.
The welcome was warm and the gin bar was excellent. The rib-eye was more than excellent but buy a side with the pork belly. Others had problems with the chef but our food was lovely.
The room was too hot - we were there during a heat wave. The sash top window was sealed shut making ventilation very difficult.
welcoming staff - great location. Tea and coffee room service free. Initially given an attic room ( a bit hot) but happily changed to good ground floor room in annexe. Fans provided. Good breakfast included.
Great location for visiting Blenheim Palace as you can walk from the hotel.
Rooms were very hot
Set in a pretty village
not a lot to do but very good for palace
Really good !!
New decor was lovely, bed comfy.
Service at dinner was poor. Food wasn't hot when it reached us and wine wasn't delivered before the food.
Staff were friendly
Room 51!! Must be the worst room in the hotel. Ground level with a large window looking directly onto the street making you feel like you are in a goldfish bowl. Windows didn't open properly so the room was very stuffy. Noise and light from the street meant a very disturbed nights sleep. We complained and they were quick to reduce to room rate as they could not offer an alternative room. We were unable to have breakfast as we ( and most other hotel guests) had an early start (we were we staying to go to the Grand Prix) but the chef didn't start until 7.30! Suggestion for next year - on this particular weekend ask your chef to start earlier so that guests can actually have breakfast served. The night porter made us a 'packed breakfast' which was something of a joke. Two sandwiches that were not even cut in half and a large carton of long life juice with not 1 cup........ Won't be going back again
The breakfast was excellent and so was the service.
We were worried about parking. We were lucky to get a spot right next to the hotel but this could be an issue.
Position, decoration, staff.
Room was small and very hot and no possibilty of opening windows for fresh air.
The room was small but pretty clean. The breakfast was good and the breakfast staff friendly
We had high expectations for the quality of the hotel as it was listed in "Best Loved Hotels". The room was small but clean. The bartender at the lounge at night was somewhat less than friendly until he learned that we were guests at the hotel. The lounge itself may have seen better days. Upon checking out I noticed the purchases made at the lounge the night before were not included - I mentioned it to the staff checking us out - he immediately added his "estimated" charges based on what we had told him we drank and ate. Upon review, I told him that it didn't seem reasonable and we reviewed the charges with the bartender and he agreed that we had been overcharged. The check out person said he would issue a credit (but did not want to do it then). Credit never came. So much for being honest.
Very comfortable hotel, with attentive and friendly staff. All set in a beautiful location.
Would have preferred tea/coffee in the room rather than served on request.
Location was handy for nearby wedding. Nice looking town, but didn't have time to explore
Finding a parking space was a bit difficult. We were told the restriction signs were no longer applicable, but this would have been a poor excuse if we had got a ticket!
Gin Bar and the Barman who was very friendly and knowledgable
The bed was very uncomfortable. The room was very hot causing previous occupants to sweat profusely as evidenced by the smell of the pillows. l
the room staff food
Very comfortable accommodation, and very welcoming staff
Breakfast was a bit below the usual standard
