The Feathers Hotel, situated in the center of historic Woodstock on the doorstep of Blenheim Palace. Originally 7 separate houses, the hotel boasts character and charm with antiques and log fires. Woodstock is one of England's most beautiful and famous country towns. Constructed largely from Cotswold stone, its buildings date from the 12th century. It is host to a wealth of interesting shops, restaurants and historic buildings - including the Oxfordshire County Museum. Situated only 8 miles from 'The Dreaming Spires' of the historic University of Oxford, on the edge of the spectacular Cotswolds and huddling next to the gates of Blenheim Palace - home of the 11th Duke of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, Woodstock has much to offer its visitors. Woodstock is just a one hour drive from London Heathrow, Birmingham and Cheltenham - Shakespeare's Stratford is a mere 45 minutes away. Due to the age of the building, there is no elevator at the hotel. Hotel Rooms: 21 The most recent booking for this hotel was made on May 19 at 15:13 from United Kingdom.

Location was brilliant, very close to Blenheim Palace. Room as ready early and we were ableto check in at 13.30. Parking in Woddstock was fairly easy and convenient. Hotel had a boutique feel to it. We stayed in Room 14 right at the top of the Hotel, and to get to this we had to go up 2 flights of narrow, low ceiling staircases. The room would not be suitable for anyone over 6'1 i would say, i banged my head on the doorway to the small bathroom 3 times and also they would not fit under the shower. The room was also extremely warm even with all the windows open and a small fan (which was provided) being used all night. Subsequently becasue all the windows were open we could hear the noise of the staff from the kitchens and bars below. Breakfast was ok not brilliant.

Value for money , quality facilities Good food but taken too seriously and the portions were meagre at best. Head waiter was clearly in the wrong job as he didnt understand the idea of the customer being right- too much dereference to "seeing if the chef can do something " - Like when we asked for a sandwich and some marmalade at clearly an in apopropriate time for the staff!

Location in the heart of Woodstock, smell of the open fire as you walk in and the gin tasting Just felt it was lacking for what's meant to be a luxury hotel - toiletries weren't anything special and service was adequate but no wow (items in breakfast forgotten, hearing the chef going mental with foul language)

Most of the staff - the ambience - the food - the service I member of staff was much too 'in your face' - also the bedroom curtains covered the radiator - you could either have the room warm - or the curtains close - not both

The suite, which comprised a genorously sized bedroom, a cosy relaxation area and a well appointed bathroom, was warm and comfortable. It was to be expected however, since we paid a considerable amount for the room rate. We noted similar rooms being offered at a discount on the day of our arrival. The need to find staff to serve at the bar, before dinner. The restaurant was overbooked on the night of our arrival. This was due to a private event occupying over half of the dining room. The table allocated to us was next to an exit door on one side and a draughty window on the other. This made the whole experience uncomfomfortable. We were not made aware that a reduced level of service would be offered at the time of booking a table. The staff were unable to cope with simple requests (such as a bottle of water, without needing a reminder) and seemed unaware of what we had ordered. Our waiter went to great pains to tell us how busy they were and that they were struggling to cope. Despite there being a complete dining room available the following evening, we were placed at another 'cold' table. On remarking on this, the waiter commented that the building was old, implying that we just had to accept it. In summary, it appears that there is no proper supervision or management of the staff, who appear untrained and inexperienced. This is unacceptable for a hotel purporting to be a 4 star and charging the price we paid.

Great friendly staff, generous & delicious breakfast. The bathroom window in our room (29) was not frosted & consequently there was no privacy without keeping the blind down during the daytime.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. We could park outside the hotel although the written information said there was no hotel parking. The difficult stairs although we were given a different room when the staff realised we were not able to cope with very narrow stairs. The hotel was very hot.

From the moment we arrived the hotel staff were extremely hospitable. The room was fantastic, generous family sized room, clean and comtemporary decor. The food was excellent. We ate a la carte in the restuarant, exquisite. Just the food alone would encourage us to stay at the hotel again. The Feathers have got it just right, fantastic hotel and staff. The setting within Woodstock village is another added bonus. It was perfect.

Fantastic location, beautiful village setting and wonderful service given by all staff members. Perfect countryside get away from a busy London living - approx 50 minutes by car from London and you are in what feels like 'another world!'. Beautiful room and very very comfy bed. Delicious food in restaurant and the Gin bar is incredible (if you like gin or not, it is worth a try! Over 150 gins................ and the same amount of ways for them to be served up!) This was our first visit and not our last. I very much enjoyed the stay and there was nothing i/we did not like. I re-booked a pre-christmas stay prior to leaving!

The hotel felt very luxurious and the room was attractive and comfortable, with a sumptuous bathroom. We were given a room on the ground floor at the side of the courtyard bar/restaurant. It had its own small courtyard with table and chairs. The sofa bed was made up for our 5 year old son. The receptionist couldn't have been nicer, and the bar staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only meal we ate in the hotel was the included breakfast, which was served in our room at no extra charge (we were on a tight schedule). Everything was freshly cooked and delicious. We would definitely stay here again and the hotel was excellent value at the discounted price we paid.
