Built as a hunting lodge in the 19th century by the Duke of Fife, the Fife Arms Hotel now offers rooms with up-to-date decor and private bathrooms. The building retains many period features and the lounge has a magnificent open fire with the original coat of arms above it. The hotel has a restaurant and coffee shop, which serves light lunches. The hotel is the center of Braemar village life, having its only public bar. The bar is open all year round and has Sky sports and also serves evening meals. Braemar is a quiet Highland village, 57 miles west of Aberdeen. The Cairngorms National Park, Balmoral Castle and the Royal Lochnagar Distillery are all within 10 miles of the Duke of Fife. The location of this hotel is perfect as is right in the centr of the beautiful village of braemar. The breakfast is also very good, with plenty of choice (cereal, fruit, breads, meats, porridge, yoghurts, pastries and cooked breakfast) Our room was very tired and musty, dusty and uncomfy. the bathroom was mouldy, the shower was scalding and the plug hole full of hairs. There was no toilet paper on arrival. towels smelled musty etc. very very disappointed

only stayed one night but would stay again - dont expect much for the price so you wont be disapointed. We had an exec room so loads of space for our biking gear....same price as the smaller! showing its age - but still nice to stay....

some of the bedrooms are very nice, our friends had superior rooms, so next time this would be our preference. Perfect location for us as we wanted to walk up some mountains with friends. Pity that they had the Norovirus outbreak at the end of our stay, and perhaps the hotel should have stopped buffet service the moment they knew they had it.

Lovely room and friendly. Food was absolutely appalling to the level of inedible. Never stayed in a hotel before where you couldn't put your drinks on your room. Even a bottle of wine in the restaurant had to pay in cash at the table. Very poor!

As we were attending a wedding at Mar Lodge, the Fife Arms hotel was very convenient for our stay -- three nights for three people. From the web site we appreciated that the hotel had attracted some criticism, but the price for two nights Dinner b & b and one night b & b was very competitive and the location ideal. We were warmly welcomed by a young receptionist and on looking at the dounble bed room we were reassured that the bed was new although the rest of the furniture was very worn. We arrived on Thursday 3rd May and found the room had tea and coffee making facilities as well as sparkling and still water. These were not replenished on the Friday but worse on the Saturday our double room and the adjacent single room were not serviced at all so when we returned from the wedding after midnight our beds were not made up. We appreciate that the hotel caters for bus parties but we thought as we were staying for three nights and having dinner in the restaurant on two of these we might have been allocated a table for three in the adjoining meeting room and as we were flexible over time we could have been give a tme to avoid clashing with bus parties. We were required to pay for our wine and any additions in the dining room which we presume is the normal practice for bus parties,

We booked into the Fife Arms with our elderly parents, the accommodation was excellent, the staff were friendly and very helpful. Any issue was resolved quickly and efficently. The food in the restuarant was good and the service was efficient and staff very friendly. Slight delay in service in the bar for food. Limited menu but food freshly cooked with fresh veg and good flavours. We have no complaints regarding the Fife Arms and will certainly be booking into the hotel in the future

Room 116 was excellent with views to the front street of the hotel and beyond, the room included a four-poster bed and a lovely sitting area with settee and chair, a very spacious room. It was clean and nicely presented. All the staff were were very pleasant and approachable, and offered help in opening doors etc. This was a very good stay in a good hotel. I have nothing negative to put forward, except to say that the breakfast room was understaffed one morning with only one staff member serving a the hot breakfast serving table; and an additional waitress came to assist with serving the hot breakfasts from in front. There was a queue for sometime which threaded its way through the tables where guests were sitting; this was poorly organised. Solution: more staff to serve and avoid the long queues. The quality of the breakfast itself was excellent.

Location and staff Evening meal was very average for the prices they charge. By catering for coach trips they have to produce lots of conventional quickly, I understand this. But at the prices charged the evening meals should be better than this fayre. Breakfast was excellent, staff brilliant as it seemed to me 100 trippers descended on the breakfast room on the dort of 8:00. Business travellers would prefer an earlier start to breakfast.

Tidy room. However the entire hotel is now a bit dated and in need of a refurbishment. Shower over the bath in the en-suite. No telephone in the room. Friendly staff. Breakfast shared with large coach party. No late night bar service, bar closes at 12.00 midnight on Saturday, no exceptions for a night cap. Night porter was around. Location in the centre of Braemar is excellent. £60 for a twin with breakfast was acceptable but not exceptional.

It was an accommodation at reasonable price. Un sitio agradable sin nada especial que reseñar. The dinner in the hotel was very poor. Too expensive for what you get and the service in the dinning was very slow. You must pay for internet connection. La cena fue cara para la cantidad de comida, el "starter" fue ridículo y el servicio en el comedor era muy lento. Tienes que pagar internet

(Slightly decayed) Victorian splendour on a grand scale. Very warm and comfortable. Roomy. Wonderful location. Coach parties rather swamp the place, but are dealt with very efficiently so other guests are still well catered for.

Having to wait at least 5 minutes to get hot bath/shower water is unacceptable. To have a hand basin where at times no more than a dribble of water emerges (cold) is unacceptable. No warning or advice (for example when it was scheduled to stop) was given about the evening entertainment which could be heard in the bedroom. To be left without clear instructions on the first morning about the breakfast arrangements is unacceptable.

i have been to the hotel many times as a retreat, get away.Lovely quiet friendly people.Lovely pure fresh air, hotel friendly and warm and do upmost best to meet requirements.Food is fabulous, very Scottish as I love.Being Scottish, you appreciate the the proper stuff. On the whole, never been let down, always come home feeling extremely relaxed and cant wait till my next visit.Love to all the staff, especially Brian?Dont know if its his proper name, but works behind the bar as he has done for years.Gem of a man..Ta ta fir noo.x there was a bit of a problem with my mums bathroom,no flush working.I booked this for her 60th birthday.I was let down a lot.Rm 114.Especially,the fact i booked executive rooms.First time ever in all the years ive came that i was let down.I would have at least liked a gesture from the hotel..Especially when ive praised this place so much, and yet myself and my guests were faced with police and police crime scene tape at reception and back entry.I will always continue to love this tranquill place because i love it.I do need reassurance for my mum and guest.FIRST VISIT,for them.....Sorry.

We were very impressed with this hotel and will definitely stay again. Apart from being very happy with our room which had a comfortable 4 poster bed and every thing we needed, it was a perfect spot to look around the beautiful countryside and all it has to offer, plus a picturesque little town to enjoy.

The breakfast was quite good. Very disappointed with this hotel. Our dirty, smelly room was typical of a place which has clearly seen better days. The room was still being cleaned (not very well as it turned out) when we checked in mid afternoon and there was no sign of the cot bed we had asked for. When it arrived some time after we had walked down three flights of stairs to report to reception as there was no phone in the room, the person who put the bed up stank of body odour and we were forced to open the filthy windows to fumigate the place. She was not the only employee to suffer from odour issues. The bathroom and the toilet in particular looked onto the house next door which we did not appreciate. The television barely worked and we couldn't allow our little boy to crawl on the bedroom floor because of the smell and general air of uncleaniness in the room. The car parking facilities were minimal and the reception staff were not the best examples of Scottish hospitality, although it has to be said that the restaurant staff were better. All a shame really as with the right incestment this place could be a fantastic hotel. It is far from that at present.
