The Fife Arms HotelMar Road, AB35 5YL Braemar (Show map) Good, Score from 121 reviews“Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, Good comfortable bed.”
Lenord,
Invergordon
Built as a hunting lodge in the 19th century by the Duke of Fife, the Fife Arms Hotel now offers rooms with up-to-date decor and private bathrooms. The building retains many period features and the lounge has a magnificent open fire with the original coat of arms above it. The hotel has a restaurant and coffee shop, which serves light lunches. The hotel is the center of Braemar village life, having its only public bar. The bar is open all year round and has Sky sports and also serves evening meals. Braemar is a quiet Highland village, 57 miles west of Aberdeen. The Cairngorms National Park, Balmoral Castle and the Royal Lochnagar Distillery are all within 10 miles of the Duke of Fife. The location of this hotel is perfect as is right in the centr of the beautiful village of braemar. The breakfast is also very good, with plenty of choice (cereal, fruit, breads, meats, porridge, yoghurts, pastries and cooked breakfast) Our room was very tired and musty, dusty and uncomfy. the bathroom was mouldy, the shower was scalding and the plug hole full of hairs. There was no toilet paper on arrival. towels smelled musty etc. very very disappointed

The hotel is dated / tired needs to be upgraded. The bathroom was in poor conditon, floor needed replaced water had damaged it, sink was cracked, shower curtain was too short which meant water was getting on to floor, the shower was just a trickle of water. Toilet seat loose. No phone in room. Beds were clean comfort ok. Just! When we arrived back at hotel approx 12.30am we expected to relax with a drink to end our evening. However there was no bar open for residents, we approached the night porter who said this service had not been unavailable for 6yrs. We had dinner before we went out, this was disapointing, very poor standard of food, very litttle choice. When we made the enquires about a meal before we we went out the receptionist failed to mention we could have had a meal in the bar/lounge area. Our sleep was disturbed untill 4.30 am due to females who were in each others rooms singing shutting doors loudly and generally making a noise. If there had been a phone I could have informed reception. A disappointing stay which means I will not be returning and would not recomend it to my friends. Mrs Forrest

Tidy room. However the entire hotel is now a bit dated and in need of a refurbishment. Shower over the bath in the en-suite. No telephone in the room. Friendly staff. Breakfast shared with large coach party. No late night bar service, bar closes at 12.00 midnight on Saturday, no exceptions for a night cap. Night porter was around. Location in the centre of Braemar is excellent. £60 for a twin with breakfast was acceptable but not exceptional.

It was an accommodation at reasonable price. Un sitio agradable sin nada especial que reseñar. The dinner in the hotel was very poor. Too expensive for what you get and the service in the dinning was very slow. You must pay for internet connection. La cena fue cara para la cantidad de comida, el "starter" fue ridículo y el servicio en el comedor era muy lento. Tienes que pagar internet

It was conveniently placed in the centre of the village and the staff were quite friendly. The room was not value for money. The carpet was threadbare and the bathroom had damp patches on the ceiling and the shower was held in place with a teaspoon! There was no telephone in the room and the tv reception was sometimes poor and the tv remote was temperamental. The room was either too hot or too cold because the radiator control was not reliable.

The general ambience of the hotel was very good During our stay the hotel was very busy with bus parties and whilst the people in the bus parties were not in them selves any problem we as iindependant travellers were made to feel less important than the bus parties . For example at dinner we were given a table to the side of the dining room at tables without table clothes where as the bus parties were seated in the main dining room at very nice tables covered with white linen table clothes. We were also left with the impression that we were in inconvenience to the dining room staff

Leaving Advise clients to check room before using as hotel do not appear to be pro-active in repairs and maintenance. Ours was a dirty room, stained carpets, bathroom vinyl floor was filthy (we wore socks or shoes to walk about), shower held by string as wall fastening broken, broken toilet roll holder, light fitting above bed broken and thus a fire hazard, food starter pre-plated (presumably left from coach party trip) as lettuce all wilted & tuna pate made oatcakes all soggy. Salmon main course nicely cooked although not generous portion for price paid.

The views were spectacular. We had booked a superior room and was given a standard room. I had not realised this at the time but friends of ours had the next room and it was far superior to ours. The toilet did not stop flushing.

The location is stunning. The room was a superior upgrade but the bath was chipped, the ceiling paper was peeling off at one corner and there were numerous stains on the wallpaper. Very disappointing for what could have been outstanding accommodation.

The very generously sized room and excellent wardrobe and drawer space. The lack of a telephone or room service. Also, checking in time of 4 pm and checking out at 10 am is ridiculous and does not make a visitor feel either valued or welcome.

It is truly a traditional Scottish Country Hotel, a little faded maybe, but non the less, a really lovely Hotel. Your Staff are all excellent. I cannot find a bad word for one of them. They are all so helpful and friendly. Our room was very well equipped and spacious (Room 112, I'm informed, the best room in the Hotel!) Bathroom a little tired but perfectly adequate. Bed linen lovely and crisp, generally a really good room. The Food!!!! Really not very good. Lots of it, but you obviously cater for the Coach party who seemed to enjoy it. We found ourselves very well treated by your Staff but very rushed between courses as they obviously had a lot to organise.

The hotel has a lot of character and it is obvious that it must have been important during the 40s and 50s. The only positive thing that I can say is the location, close to Balmoral castle The room had dust and the toilet was dirtly.

Excellent location in bonny village in beautiful landscape.Bargain rates are also most attractive A perfectionist wiuld be unhappy about state of maintenance, such as broken lamps, leaking shower and generally poor sound insulation. However all this was, for us, outweighted by the pluses.I think we were more impressed the last time we stayed here 60 years ago.

Friendly staff but needs an upgrade of furniture and furnishings in public rooms. Piping hot water and comfortable bed. It was good value for what we paid. Chairs in lounge were very worn and shabby. Hotel could do with a makeover. It is such a lovely building and Braemar is a fantastic location.

An old, slightly passed it's best, hotel but it was comfortable and warm. Plenty of space in the public areas to sit. My room and others around me had macerators fitted to the toilet, shower and washbasin. They were very noisy and could be heard running at all times of the night.

The area was one of the best things. The hotel was booked because of its location. It was comfortable enough with a decent breakfast. The room was tired and dated, also a little unclean. The hotel was quiet and staff were few and far between - getting service was at times difficult.

Our room was very warm and was much larger than expected. Although the decor throughout the hotel was well overdue for a 'tidy-up' with fresh wallpaper and carpets etc, it was kept clean and warm. The bed was intolerable, giving my (22 year old) girlfriend chronic back pain even before we had hit the ski slopes! Plus on our second evening, the service for food from the bar was the worst I have ever experienced.... we were the first of only 4 couples to order food that evening, and the very last (by some 30mins) to recieve our orders. It took the staff 30 mins to inform us that one starter was out of stock, then another 40 mins for them to arrive, another 45 mins then passed before our main arrived. No apology was given by any of the staff, including management. The following morning we checked out a day early as we'd had enough, at this point the owner apologised but offered no form of compensation.

Good location with clean rooms The juke box in the public bar was extremely loud and was being used by youngsters in the adjoining snooker room. We asked if the speakers in the public bar could be turned off but were told that was not possible.
