Helpful staff, great ales, good craic in the bar, brilliant food. A really good place to stay.
great location and excellent food
Very quiet rural location, with very friendly staff. When we arrived I had reservations about wearing my dracula outfit in the bar but the staff made us feel very at home. Only stayed one night, but liked the place so much we went back for dinner the following nght.
um er... nothing!
Friendly atmosphere with good beer and good food
Phone signal was poor and intermittent
The pub is in a great location for the North Yorkshire Moors although we were there for our son's wedding at nearby Danby Castle. The rooms are clean and comfortable; the food (at breakfast and in the evening) excellent. The staff were helpful and friendly. We would love to revisit in the summertime.
North Yorkshire in November is probably not the best time to visit the area unless you have a choice! The bathroom could have been warmer and the shower a little stronger.
Staff were very friendly and polite. Will go again at some point.
Nothing not to like
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. Although our room was small it had everything we needed. The food was excellent, well presented and prepared. The inn is in a beautiful area with plenty of walks literally outside the door.
Nothing at all.
Excellent location, friendly atmosphere and great food in the bar downstairs
Stayed in Room 5 - fabulous decor Friendliness of staff Great food Atmospheric Inn Great location
Cosy warm and inviting. Excellent breakfast using local quality produce. Dinner was real good home cooking with plenty of variety. Quiet sweet village. Local musician's provided entertainment one night. Wi-Fi worked a treat. All in the near heart of the moors, excellent.
Only one small gripe. Both real ales beers I tested were slightly sulphur struck. "A hint of Pondy" but defiantly not the nasty hydrogen sulphide "eggy" Not a real problem for the locals who probably don't notice it. Lack of welcoming friendly conversation from a number of staff.
Lovely view of countryside Comfortable Nice toiletries in bathroom
Noise of kitchen swing door right below our room
Easy relaxing atmosphere Location friendly staff
Pleasant staff, help and accommodating, pleasant suprice to find good wifi in such remote spot.
The location is beautiful and there are lots of lovely places to walk to. E
I think the food could be improved. Breakfast was fine but dinner could have been tastier.
Very comfortable bed. Good breakfast with excellent bacon.
We booked the last available room which happened to be a family room, so had to spend £135 for just 2 of us and therefore had 2 camp beds in the room which got on the way. The room smelled of dogs. We'd left another hotel where the staff were so friendly. Here they did their job, but didn't seem that bothered. I paid the bill and didn't even get a goodbye, let alone how was your stay.
Good food Good beer. Beautiful location. Stunning views.
Good atmosphere, very clean and tastefully decorated. Restaurant and food choice and quality very good and scenic location ideal for enjoying the moors. A good all round package.
There was really 'not to like' about the Fox and Hounds.
There were no strict rules. Plenty of space to park the car. A nice casual atmosphere and very friendly.
Loose toilet seat and large mirror in bedroom badly placed and the light from the window was behind you so you could not see very well to do your hair. Had to improvise.
The location of the Fox & Hounds was excellent with great views over the countryside both front and rear our room was very clean and comfortable and the decor fresh. The food and drink in the pub were superb and good value for money, the breakfast was excellent and set us up nicely for the day. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Our stay was too short!!
Nice pub and lovely surroundings.
Noise leakage through some walls in bedrooms was a bit loud. But nothing else
Good Food , Quite reasonable choice of wines.
The view, the bar, the meals, the ambience
The location and the quaintness of the place. Nice and quiet
A bit pricey for what it is.
Nice location, friendly atmosphere, good sized room.
Very dated bathroom suite with moldy grout round the bath, wallpaper peeling off in room and walls looked very bumpy and needed re plastering, dinner was overpriced and just ok not great. Breakfast was a disappointment would have expected more than one rasher of bacon and more than one sausage and maybe beans. Asked for sausages and beans for my son rather than full breakfast and he was only given one sausage with beans. Asked if husband could exchange mushrooms and tomatoes for an extra sausage and the waitress agreed but then brought his breakfast without mushrooms and tomatoes but no extra sausage. The breakfast didn't taste great and was luke warm.
