Really nice place with great service who did everything they could to fit in with our timings, dogs and dietary requirements. Great place for dog owners because the rooms open out onto the car park and there's some grass there too.

Some interesting shops, Herriots was good value for money and the walks around the town were lovely although there was snow on the ground. Good entertainment in the Golden Fleece watching the staff cock up all the orders for meals and drinks! Beware of the unpleasant traffic warden who comes all the way from Scarborough so has to earn his corn and also the pieman opposite Neros which we happen to cross swords with.Staff in Herons and the Coop were exceptionally helpful.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit.
Thirsk is a lovely place to visit. There are many cosy teashops (Upstairs, Downstairs was our preferred choice with a great selection of snacks, main meals (including daily specials) and cakes! A great Italian restaurant (Bianco), which I can highly recommend - but do book - we booked for a Wednesday evening and it was very busy! There is also a good selection of bakeries for yummy cakes, cookies and breads! Lots of charity shops for a few bargains, Co-Op, Boots & WH Smith. There is also a large Tesco supermarket just out of the town.
A visit to Thirsk wouldn't be complete without a visit to The World of James Herriot - it was brilliant!
There is also a lot of parking, both short and long stay.
All in all a great time was had by us, and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to Thirsk again!

There were lots of local shops, cafes and a local market at the weekend. The old town centre was very quaint. It wasn't too busy or too quiet. There is a locally run cinema. It is less than 20mins on the train to York. The locals are friendly.

A lovely little town that has shops, a little market and nice cafe’s. You can see where James Herriot lived and worked and everything is in walking distance from where you park. There is plenty of parking and it’s free for an hour. It is a must see little town.
We stayed for one night on our way to Scotland and the Bay House Country Inn exceeded our expectations. A lovely Inn in a small village that seemed miles away from the A1 even though it was only about 5 minutes, a much better option than the normal generic hotels. The Inn had a lovely atmosphere, good beers, parking on-site and the room was comfortable. The food was good, reasonably priced and very plentiful! The host was welcoming and helpful. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would happily stay there again.
The property was beautifully presented and very clean. Allison was really clear with information about how to find and enter the property, and we received some lovely welcome chocolates once inside!
Property location was perfect, right in the centre of Thirsk and close to supermarkets, shops and cafes. just a few minutes walk to get some coffee and breakfast each morning!
Would definitely recommend staying at The Old Surgery for a weekend in Thirsk or to explore the local area.
Everything was perfect, clean cosy well equipped and just a short walk into the town centre. Peaceful location and walks from the door to Cod Beck, out into the country or round the lovely town. Highly recommend and an ideal base for visiting North Yorkshire Moors/ Dales. We had a meal at Racha Thai Bistro in Thirsk, excellent reasonably priced food. Finished off with Christ, mas day lunch at the Crab Lobster Aisenby 10 minutes drive from Herriots Nook.
The chalets we booked for me and my husband and my sister and niece were absolutely spotless. They were extremely comfortable and very well appointed. The owners had thought of everything, even bringing fresh milk for our tea. We wished we were able to stay for more than one night! The location, 5 minutes by car from Thirsk town centre, was ideal, very peaceful and quiet too. Altogether, a perfect stay!
Alex was top notch as a host. Excellent location for visiting the north moors as well as the Yorkshire dales. Everybody was friendly that we met at the Kings Arms we ended up talking to locals as well as residents. I want to go again as we only scratched at seeing the local scenery. We absolutely loved the North Yorkshire Moors and wondered why we had never been before.
Easy parking in big car park to rear . Hotel is in centre of Thirsk , most things within walking distance . Room very clean and comfortable with nice crisp white sheets . New carpet and everything you need for a one night stay . As a solo traveler I was made very welcome , I noticed a few fellow solo travellers there too . Food was very good too .
Fabulous, comfortable room and facilities with free parking.
Superb host, Mark and the team are so friendly and helpful and breakfast was plentiful and delicious, even provided a vegetarian option! Comfy bed and lovely hot shower. Easy walk into town and Thirsk racecourse. Great value, highly recommend. We will be back soon thank you! 🤩🤩🤩X
The cottage was cosy, well appointed and freshly decorated to a high standard. Plentiful pots & pans, crockery and cutlery. The garden was pretty with a comfortable covered seating area that wasn't overlooked by neighbours; we were even visited by a very cute hedgehog! The town square is only a couple of minutes walk away.
A very comfortable cottage in a lovely area, with easy access to lots of the sites and beautiful landscapes of North Yorkshire. Warm and cosy, good sofas and very nice oak furniture throughout. Extra touches - like seasoned logs for the woodburner, fresh flowers, slippers and bathrobes - were a much appreciated surprise.
The Angel at Topcliffe is a hidden gem. The staff was incredibly friendly, the meals well prepared and of exceptional value. A lovely hotel/restaurant combination. :) The breakfast was much nicer than we expected....continental options as well as much more elegant options. Well done Topcliffe.
It was as expected for a budget hotel. No frills but the staff were welcoming and helpful. Plenty of free parking. A secure room on the ground floor was made available for us to store our bikes. Just a few minutes drive to Thirsk. The room we had overlooked open countryside.
Spacious motel style rooms so no noise from upstairs guests. The proprietors went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable. We were sorry to leave. South Kilvington is a perfect place from which to explore Yorkshire.
Comfortable clean bed, tea making facilities and excellent breakfast served by very helpful staff. The location is excellent in the town centre. Clean towels provided daily and all toiletries provided.
I was in Thirsk for a wedding and Kirkgate house hotel met all my needs. Friendly owner and nice rooms. Thirsk sculpture park is just down the road which is very nice. I'd definitely recommend!
Very nice guesthouse. Central location. Car parking space was appreciated. Host was very friendly and helpful. Spacious room with a very comfortable bed. Good Yorkshire breakfast too.
Free car parking on site. Easy to use shower. Accommodation shares site with pub that serves food. Convenience store next door. Thirsk town centre within 5 minute drive.
