Very friendly, comfortable and cosy b&b which I would recommend just above the city of Durham. We drove to town centre as might be a little stroll
Car park. You had to share with other customers
The room was spacious, the beer grade was lovely. The location was within walking distance from the town centre. The bar was welcoming
Location - walking distance from station and only 15-20 minutes from city sights.
Adrian, the manager came in early so that a number of people running the Great North Run could have an early breakfast.
The hotel rooms were clean and well presented. 5 minutes from train station and 10 minutes into the town centre. Food was excellent and breakfast was served early for us, as we were running GNR, even brought out bags so we could take fruit with us.
The size of the room. Décor Bathroom. Pleasant staff.
The noise from the music in the bar beneath the room. To be fair it did stop at approx. 11.45pm, but I was in my room from 8.30'sh after a long journey and the base noise from the music was rather annoying.
Excellent dinner, beautiful slow cooked lamb in port! Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent continental breakfast. Quirky ornaments and décor in room. Really powerful and adjustable shower!
The noise from the traffic, all quiet after 11pm.
Staff friendly, location good, breakfast nice.
Bathroom very old and shower didn't work either too cold or too hot. Towels not changed even when left on floor. Old windows so draft and noise from road.
The room was a little basic but the pub was lovely and breakfast was surprisingly good and had a very personal touch which made all the difference that the owners actually served it. Will be fab once rooms get a little make over but still pleasant. Did not eat at pub as meeting friends in town but what we saw looked fab.
Carpet in bathroom :(
Room size, decore, proximity to town, staff
Unable to get food after 6 on a Sunday (you are an inn!!!) and no mention of this when booking, no wifi in room, heating spasmodic, this meant the windows were running with moisture each morning, breakfast layout frustrating I.e. No room to move, no cooked breakfast in the summer continental only,
The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly and attentive.
The shower pressure and hot/cold mixer was inadequate. I understand that a burst water main had occurred a few months ago and that repairs were under way. But it didn't make the cold showers any warmer.
Noise from bar until about 11:30
Room was large, clean, well furnished and maintained. Beds were comfortable. Staff were efficient and friendly. Continental Breakfast was just okay considering that in the UK a hot English breakfast is the norm. I'd stay here only if nothing else was a available.
Our room location facing a busy street made for a noisy evening. Could hear cars go up the hill, so didn't get a good night's sleep.
Nice room and i fell at home
We liked how close it was to the City, the lovely room and the fact that the bar was downstairs and friendly. The staff were polite and nice (especially the breakfast staff) and the breakfast was scrummy.
Only one thing we didn't really like and that was the shower. Its was very poor and we didn't enjoy using it. You just could not regulate the temperature you either froze to death or were scalded.
Room was lovely and cosy, very comfy bed. Food was nice. Quirky cosy pub!
Shower was very weak & could not always get correct temperature
Parking a it restricted
Good pub food
Staff is very nice The rooms are well decorated (but need new windows)
- Needs new windows for the street noise - Bathrooms would need serious renovations - Parking small but more room available when people leave the pub (quite late)
Room was very nice and comfortable, staff very friendly, very good location and the breakfast had plenty of choice, I would highly reccomend the garden house inn, we had a very enjoyable stay.
Very good food. Good continental breakfast. Good range of beers.
The location - just a short walk from centre of Durham. Bit of a hill coming back but no problem to us. Able to leave car on their carpark. Very tasty food in restaurant. Good continental breakfast.
The location was close to the town centre with good transport links however it was only a short stroll if you prefer to walk. The on site parking was a bonus and there was an attractive outside decking area to enjoy the good weather.the whole place was pleasantly presented but the rooms were a little tired and could do with a bit of attention especially the bathroom which was carpeted!!and the plumbing was noisy.
There wasn't really any thing to dislike but the inn is situated in between two main roads and traffic noise started early .there wasn't much staff presence during the day which made ordering at the bar difficult..but on the whole our stay was pleasant
