Very welcoming, staff went out of their was to be helpful and friendly. Facilities in hotel were good, breakfast excellent.
After coming off the busy motorway you find yourself in this idyllic little village and, having checked into the George, you are sitting by the cosy fire with a pint of Jennings, looking forward to an excellent meat pie for dinner. The food was great, the beds were comfortable, and the owners and staff were super friendly. I would return in a heartbeat.
The fact that I live so far away.
Friendly and knowledgable staff clean tidy room with all facilities excellent food. Good friendly company by locals to somebody on there own. Would stay again highly recommended.
Friendly Happy team that took care of us and made our stay enjoyable. Excellent range of beers and good quality food. Clean comfortable rooms, ideal location for our walking trip.
Food and friendliness
Climb up the stairs to top floor !
The fairly basic food was well prepared and the beer was good.
Poor customer focus, lack of welcome, the threat of a £50 fine if the bar alarm was accidentally set off. Poor wifi deliberately arranged so it could not be received in the rooms.
Comfy bed gd nights sleep very clean excellent breakfast nice and quiet, plenty of hot water in seperate bathroom
No television in room , toilet and sink a bit squashed in , no hot water in sink , burgers a bit tough home made ones would have been better but gd chips
I understand that new management has taken over in recent months and (according to locals) the changes have been dramatic. It is very clean, the staff are first class and the menu (much sourced locally) is sufficient for anyone. The tariff is modest. The staff happily cater for walkers arriving with wet boots and clothing which they happily take away and return dry the following morning.
Nothing. I will be delighted to re-visit. Not being a drinking man I did not try the beer but if it is as good as everything else then the bar is well worth trying.
The George was a very friendly family-run hotel. It was also a vibrant village pub and centre of the community. The food was excellent.
I booked a single room with a shared bathroom. In fact my room had its own WC & wash-basin; the bathroom was very close and had a shower over the bath that was not well designed.
Bathroom space was very cramped.
Friendly atmosphere Flexible catering Flexible staff Nice Décor Reasonable selection of 'ales'
Small toilet / basin room in single room
They welcomed us as walkers; had trays to put our boots on and offered to put them in the boiler room for drying. Comfortable beds (we had the twin room) and good facilities. Darren, the landlord and staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Nothing we can think of.
Helpful staff Good food
Warm welcome and helpful staff. Good pub food and porridge at breakfast. For those who need it a good gluten free menu.
Wifi hit and miss unless in the bar. But this is lovely Cumbria
I turned up at 9pm and was made very welcome by the owner. A lovely man. My room was gorgeous; very clean, quiet and cosy. There was tea and coffee available in the room and even some lovely little chocolates. I felt very comfortable. I had a great nights sleep in the very comfortable bed and had an amazing breakfast served by the very nice owner. Thank you so much for this love little experience; I very rarely get to go away on my own and this stay made me feel very relaxed and ready for my race. Thank you.
Great location, very friendly staff, very clean and comfortable, love the place. Serve Real Ale too, which is good
comfy, no nonsense and good beer.
Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent food!
perfect overnight stop on long drive to Scotland, close to M6, nice pub with great beer and food, excellent value, cannot ask for more...will stay again when next up this way
Friendliness of staff, lively but not too noisy in the bar, quiet night's sleep. good breakfast. Bedroom on top floor so no noise from above.
Small room, no place to put clothes.
Sarah the fantastic hostess, who took very good care of us and our wet boots!
It's a great country pub with spot on accommodation in exactly the right place.
Lack of Wifi (but I knew this in advance and relied on BT Fon off local private properties although had to stand outside; lucky it wasn't wet!). It's becoming really important when travelling and most competitor places offer it.
Warm welcome from very friendly and efficient staff. Fabulous big room for 5 people although we were only two. Great food and Jennings beer. Great location just off M6 in Cumbria. 5 star in my book
Being able to have a very good and pleasant evening meal in the bar/restaurant with a lovely log fire
Breakfast, room size
Room was a bit cold
