The staff were very nice and helpful
The whole place is in need of modernisation including the TV's in the room
Bed linen was clean. Given an extra duvet when asked. TV replaced in the morning with an equally old set but it worked . I did not pay for my evening meal which I could not eat. I left after one night although booked for four.
Dinner was inedible. Absolutely no wifi. Ancient TV broke during the evening, no remote. No public telephone. The cheapest, smallest bottles of shampoo and shower gell I have ever seen. Grubby carpets especially in hall and on stairs. Very unwelcoming staff. No curtains in bedroom, just a slatted blind. Breakfast mediocre.
Only booked a single but had a large room. Staff friendliness
Large room had 2 twin beds moved together. Musty smell in upstairs corridors
Nice location, Large room with very Big Bed, Ideal if you are not small. Excellent good value food and drink served.
The wonderful friendly staff
Staff were helpful and welcoming, food was good with a good selection. This hotel has an impressive exterior, good views.
Unfortunately, this place needs a lot of money spent on it. It looked and felt quite rundown, and could do with a good clean mainly on public areas, the rooms were ok but our TV could only get 4 channels, and the mattresses were not very comfortable.
The staff were very friendly, the room was comfortable and the food was good. I'd go back.
The location was good and the staff were friendly. It is close to the airport.
The rooms were dirty in places - stains on the carpet and the chair.
general ambience was good. The staff hold this establishment together
The owners seem to be taking all and putting little back to revive this tired establishment.
Its location, and the warm reception when we arrived rather late. Supper was good too.
Had to use a teacup to keep the window open; uncooked and stone cold kippers at breakfast in the home of the kipper. Breakfast should be included in price. Hotel badly needs a makeover - it's decoration is virtually unchanged since I was there 50 years ago.
The room was clean Quality tea and coffee in the room Very good shower Good hair drier Comfortable bed Very good location on the Island Easy to get around the Island and close to the airport.
Very old style decor, an old curtain hung over the cloths hanging area. The breakfast was ok the first day it could have been hotter, day two very good, but let down on day three due to quality of the sausage and bacon. Feels that the cost of the stay is based on 2014 prices but you get 1970 set up. However this problem is not just for this hotel on the island, it seems to be a common trend. Coke Mixer in the bar flat, when this was highlighted to the staff it was just suggested we try some more, which was just the same. Result was, "that's all we have sorry".
Location for us=good Food=breakfast good but evening meal poor(very fatty gammon+ chips ok on inside but solid on outside) our only evening meal and last night so didn't say anything. Manager,John, very efficient as was cleaner/waitress Annie.
Hotel+room=bit tired, needs uplifting no opening windows or drawers specified double room but offered twin on arrival. Manager sorted problem once notified. TV but no remote control to operate it. Nothing disastrous,in all = OK
Nice large room with great view
Limited time for breakfast
the hotel was ok for our location,
the noise from the pub down stairs ie music , car doors banging right up till the co op closing, then early in the morning bins emptied, road sweeper, deliveries to co op. all before 7 oclock, so not much sleep, banging doors
Location was good! Pub meal great! Travel easy! Good value!
Helpful genuine staff
Bed was very uncomfortable
The George is a very good hotel for a family needing a place to stay in historic Castletown on a budget. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is good with generous breakfasts and the staff are very helpful and friendly. You are right in the centre of the town and there is a good sized car park.
no electric razor point only 4 channels on tv breakfast from 9:00am at weekends exit from car park a nightmare
Recommended.Friendly staff and a very nice breakfast. The infamous stair carpet has been replaced with a good quality item.
Staff very friendly beer too expensive.
The smell of cigarette smoke every where
The George is basically a pub hotel - our room Was actually ok but the pub is scruffy and in need of some refurbishment
staff were very friendly and accommodating, the room was clean and comfortable , and the food was excellent. brilliant location too, good parking.
local council insisted on cleaning the roads at 6;30am every day. the cold water supply was sometimes hot so plumbing may need some modification as it was an old building, but not a major issue.
Staff were all really kind and helpful. Even sent someone up when there was a harmless but annoying blowfly buzzing around my room. Food down in the ground floor pub was excellent, and reasonably priced. Wifi was the best I've yet experienced in the UK. Excellent location; Castle Rushen is right across the square, there are three banks and a Co-Operative food market right next door, and only a 10 minute walk to the steam railway station. While the rooms are not air-conditioned, the climate of the Isle of Man was such that I never felt I needed AC. In fact, many nights I kept my window closed and was nestled in the covers because it was too cold.
There was a metal O-shaped hook under the desk where a hairdryer was hung. When sitting at the desk, said hook would bump against my leg rather uncomfortably. I alerted the manager to this on my way out, and I expect such an issue will be corrected. The rooms, particularly the single room I was in are small and can be a little awkward to maneuver around, but overall they're a reasonable size, especially considering the building's age of over 200 years.
we have been coming to Castletown for 30 years and never thought we would stay at this hotel having visited Southern 100 presentation many times. A funeral bought us here and really enjoyed it under the circumstances
We thought the carpets were very worn but the outside was being painted so maybe the inside was being revamped a well
Comfortable beds, quiet good breakfast.
Did not see any info on attractions, where to visit etc but only there one night may have missed them.
