Nice large room with great view
Limited time for breakfast
the hotel was ok for our location,
the noise from the pub down stairs ie music , car doors banging right up till the co op closing, then early in the morning bins emptied, road sweeper, deliveries to co op. all before 7 oclock, so not much sleep, banging doors
Location was good! Pub meal great! Travel easy! Good value!
Helpful genuine staff
Bed was very uncomfortable
The George is a very good hotel for a family needing a place to stay in historic Castletown on a budget. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is good with generous breakfasts and the staff are very helpful and friendly. You are right in the centre of the town and there is a good sized car park.
no electric razor point only 4 channels on tv breakfast from 9:00am at weekends exit from car park a nightmare
Recommended.Friendly staff and a very nice breakfast. The infamous stair carpet has been replaced with a good quality item.
Staff very friendly beer too expensive.
The smell of cigarette smoke every where
The George is basically a pub hotel - our room Was actually ok but the pub is scruffy and in need of some refurbishment
staff were very friendly and accommodating, the room was clean and comfortable , and the food was excellent. brilliant location too, good parking.
local council insisted on cleaning the roads at 6;30am every day. the cold water supply was sometimes hot so plumbing may need some modification as it was an old building, but not a major issue.
Staff were all really kind and helpful. Even sent someone up when there was a harmless but annoying blowfly buzzing around my room. Food down in the ground floor pub was excellent, and reasonably priced. Wifi was the best I've yet experienced in the UK. Excellent location; Castle Rushen is right across the square, there are three banks and a Co-Operative food market right next door, and only a 10 minute walk to the steam railway station. While the rooms are not air-conditioned, the climate of the Isle of Man was such that I never felt I needed AC. In fact, many nights I kept my window closed and was nestled in the covers because it was too cold.
There was a metal O-shaped hook under the desk where a hairdryer was hung. When sitting at the desk, said hook would bump against my leg rather uncomfortably. I alerted the manager to this on my way out, and I expect such an issue will be corrected. The rooms, particularly the single room I was in are small and can be a little awkward to maneuver around, but overall they're a reasonable size, especially considering the building's age of over 200 years.
we have been coming to Castletown for 30 years and never thought we would stay at this hotel having visited Southern 100 presentation many times. A funeral bought us here and really enjoyed it under the circumstances
We thought the carpets were very worn but the outside was being painted so maybe the inside was being revamped a well
Comfortable beds, quiet good breakfast.
Did not see any info on attractions, where to visit etc but only there one night may have missed them.
The location was good.
It was dirty the stair carpet was black. Window broken in the room. Black mould on the curtains . Dirty tissues under the bed. I could go on I would rather stay in a tent than stay at that hotel.
Very friendly man managing this hotel Very convenient location Reasonably priced Comfortable room.
Hotel does not start breakfast on saturday mornings until 9am.this is not very suitable for people going for an early flight,if we knew this we could have bought something to have with the cup of tea in the room, as we do not fancy the costa food in the mornings.
Nothing at all.
It was dirty. Would never stay there again. Was booked for 4 nights only stay 1. Could not get out quick enough. Have got photo's to prove how bad it was. Broken window in the bedroom mould on the curtains.Bedroom just dirty.
Made most welcome by Neil and Norma as usual. Top location and excellent food. Many thanks.
About time that stair carpet was changed!!
bedroom was lovely and clean and everything you needed. the manager and his assistant were lovely at breakfast so kind and helpful.
the carpet going up the stairs to accommodation from the bar needs replacing lets it all down as everything else is so lovely.
bit dingy needs re furbish
Felt at home straight from arrival. Very friendly staff. Excellent stay and will definitely return
First floor was quite noisy at night with doors slamming shut. Kitchen upstairs which explains the messy carpet on stairs
The location, with a view of the castle from our bedroom.
Uncomfortable beds - too hard-a mattresses. .
Staff very good and room very clean.
Hotel probably in need of some investment - looking rather 'tired'. And of course, the famous stair carpet !!!!
Good Location clean sheets in the bedroom
Disgustingly dirty carpet on stairs with a sticky slimy greasy black substance that makes your skin crawl when you walk on it. All food is prepared upstairs and then carried down this stairway to Hell. Would not dare to eat here Reception is the back door passage. The carpet and chairs in the bedroom are stained and dirty. Burglar alarm ?? went off at 8.30am for 30 minutes then Fire Alarm went off at 10.30am because someone burned the toast. Manager shrugged his shoulders and said it was an alarming morning. Will never stay here again and will be very wary of using Booking .Com if this is your idea of an acceptable standard. Please send someone to look at this dive before you lose more customers
Really good location with excellent staff. Good value for money . We enjoyed staying there and are going back soon.
It is a bit frayed around the edges but I like that because it makes it genuine.
Friendly staff and excellent bar / food / breakfast was a real hoot! Lovely view from room of the Castle and ring in town centre. 10 minutes walk from train station but buses stop right outside.
The stair carpet was very tired but staff apologised for condition - awaiting deep clean. The alight fitting in out room was filled with dead flies - not the best look, did mention and told they get cleaned every 6 months, every 6 days would be moor appropriate and at the end of the day how long does it actually take to do?
