The full breakfast, the pub, the pub lunches, owner (Nikki) and staff, proximity to Portsmouth Dockyard with HMS Victory and museums, easy walk to railway station even with luggage, proximity to ferry port, and more. The hotel is only 10 rooms over a pub that has been in business since 1781. Are the rooms luxurious? No. Are they worth what we paid? Absolutely. The two breakfasts my wife and I had each morning were worth BPS 20 or more. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to historic Portsmouth.

Clean, fresh, large rooms and great full English breakfast. Perfect location for a visit to Portsmouth and the Royal Naval Museum/ Dockyards (easy walking distance). Also convenient for a return ferry from France (LeHavre). We arrived directly from the ferry at 10PM and were comfortably in our rooms at the George by 10:30PM with no hassles. Parking was available across the street (50% off) and we were able to leave our car there for our Museum visit the next morning.

Really enjoyed our one night stay. Staff including the owners could have not been more helpful. Plenty of tea/coffee & toiletries in the room. Location great a 5 minute walk to the train station & just outside the Historic Dockyard. Great breakfast that sets you up for the day.

Restaurants down at the pier were over booked. We had to use it as The George was not serving meals on Mondays. But finally did find a good restaurant

We went for a visit to the Dockyards, the Victory and the Warrior in Portsmouth. The hotel is ideally located for that. The staff was very helpful with copy of Maps and other explanations. Great breakfast!

A fantastic warm welcome for tired travellers. Nicki was great, friendly, helpful and offered assistance without being asked. It's a historic traditional pub where we could chat to the locals and jake the lovely barman. They stored our luggage for the day and welcomed us back to wait for our late night ferry. Highly recommend if u are looking for a local experience

The old style English building 1770. The rooms were nicely decorated with features of the old days . The downstairs pub was the feature , a try of a few local beers is a must . Dining was also a good experience .

The bedding could be a little better , but overall it was a great experience

The pub was extremely friendly with an open fire. Food was excellent and good value ( breakfast and dinner). Location was perfect for Gun Wharf and historic dockyards

I would have the rooms furnished more traditionally but this is personal taste only

All the staff are exceptional, the food is five star fantastic, the accommodations are clean, comfortable and inviting. Everything was perfect and I would recommend this Pub/ with rooms to everyone. Did I mention the food is fantastic!

The room was very spacious and clean. Being at the rear of the hotel it was also quiet. Heating should have been turned down a little at night as it was too warm for us. Mugs for coffee and tea in the room. Nice "locals" bar and restaurant with good food.

Very nice and comfortable atmosphere with forthcoming service.

In a very windy night, it was fairly noisy in the room.
