Very little The room I booked and paid for was a double, and on arrival I was allocated a twin and told there was no other vacancies. The hotel is difficult to find (even the taxi driver got lost!). A refurb was taking place and the dining area was a working building site. In all a very very tired hotel.

The location is convenient when arriving by train and for shopping in Reading. Despite being one of the oldest buildings in Reading the interior of the hotel is largely devoid of charm. The rooms are somewhat scruffy. It is not expensive and the rooms are understanbly small but it could be smartened up.

The room was a fair size, bed was extremely comfortable, room nice and dark (from curtains) at night, great location. I could hear the people in room next door at 7am when I wanted to be asleep...but to be fair I think it was because they were outside my door when thry were talking rather than in their room. Didn't hear any noise during the night

Location, helpful and friendly staff. Nice tiled bathroom. Hotel seemed a bit tired with public areas generally rundown. The room was adequate but the floor was very uneven and we had to have the heating attended to.

Central location, great real ale pub accross the road, room rate very reasonable. Single room was fine, plenty large enough. Even had a trouser press cum ironing board & iron - great for us creased business travellers.

Quiet but central, beautiful building and good value for money. No control over heating in room (not sure if there was a problem with the radiator or that is standard) and it was stifling.

Very comfortable and very interesting historically. Nothing to complain about although the stairs were a bit challenging with a suitcase.

Friendly and Convenient Unfortunately no hot water either in the evening or following morning, for me it is all about the little things, very poor for what is a pleasant nice hotel.

Location was excellent; right in the City Centre, close to shops and nightlife Shower pressure was insufficient to move even a spec of sand a fraction of a millimetre. Breakfast staff were unhelpful and there was hardly any food left, despite breakfast not finishing for another 45 mins.

Staff were friendly Disappointed with quality and standard of hotel, unfortunately I wont be using this hotel again. There were not even basic things like little sashes of shower gel, shampoo etc. The bed was saggy and had seen better days although had clean sheets.

The location and ease of booking, checking in etc - was just very easy and seamless! The room had a very damp smell to it and a smell of drains in the bathroom, not serious but a little unpleasant. I dont think this was permanent, but may be the room had not been occupaied much for a while!

No parking at hotel, you need to park in a public car park 5 minutes walk away. Hotel is located on a restricted through road for cars. While the building is cited as one of the oldest in Reading as a positive the reality is not so great; getting to your room with a number of bags through the narrow corridors, numerous doors and no lifts is a frustration. Also my room had no hot water! I would not stay here again and was dissappointed as Mercure normally have a better standard than this.

Lovely courtyard, good bar, central location, helpful and accommodating staff at the check in, comfortable + clean beds (we had three rooms in our party, all in different parts of hotel, the good standard was consistent throughout). Rooms all had LCD TVs, ironing, tea coffee facilities. Only one, foam pillow (this probably won't bother most people, however I tend to take feather pillows whenever I go away(!)), poor shower (on first floor, might have been better elsewhere).
