With a superb central location, a 2 minute walk from Reading Train Station and the pubs on Friar Street, the hotel offers clean, comfortable rooms with air cooling.
Score from 840 reviews Very good
In Reading town centre, the Quality Hotel Reading is situated next to the Oracle Shopping Centre. The traditional hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and hearty breakfasts.
Score from 282 reviews Good
Close to the Oracle shopping complex and a short walk from Reading Train Station, Premier Inn Reading Central is a modern, affordable, efficient base.
Score from 339 reviews Very good
This unique residence is a modern reworking of the Great Western Hotel, built in 1844 and reputed to be the oldest surviving train hotel in the world.
Score from 296 reviews Very good
Location and amenities were excellent.
1. The location is excellent. 2. Breakfast is good.
1. had to walk a lot with my luggage. climb lots of stairs. no elevator. 2. WiFi was 96kbps and kept disconnecting. 3. My single (!) room was quite small but manageable.
Ok its a coaching Inn with some atmosphere and friendly staff who try hard but..
Its a rambling old building with chipped paint, tired carpets and a central heating system that either rumbled or just did not work. It is in the centre of Reading and I suspect at weekends it is properly hell on earth. I could not work out why all the hotels are so expensive round here - it is only Reading
Good position for transport, food outlets, and major stores.
Bathroom was a bit small, shower instead of a bath/shower would have given drying space. All else nice.
The hotel is set in a good central position close to shops, bars and restaurants. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable.
After a night out we returned to the hotel ready for a good nights sleep but this wasn't to be. Throughout the night there was a constant humming sound, wasn't sure if it was the air conditioning. At 9.30 am the following morning we went to have our cooked breakfast which is apparently available until 10.00 am. However most the serving bowls were empty, and the food that was left looked terrible. A waitress told us she would get us a cooked breakfast and to wait 3 minutes. Twenty minutes later an already plated breakfast arrived. I would have preferred to make my own selection but never mind. However when we started to eat the breakfast it was cold! We left the hotel feeling both tired and hungry.
Good value for money
right next to the Oracle shopping centre
Convenient location for Reading railway station and Railair bus to Heathrow. Easy check in and out. Very good value for money. Courteous and helpful staff.
Basic, cheerless room, poor lighting. Steep stairs, narrow corridors, no lift. Problem with bathroom door, very noisy on opening or closing.
Large well decorated room with comfortable bed. Good quality bedding. Nice size bathroom. Coffee maker.
Corridors and bar area getting a bit worn out but this is a very minor thing.
Excellent location, and all staff were very helpful and polite. Having said that one member of staff who I asked whether I could extend the check out time was very rude and shortly after called my room to ensure I was checking out!!!
The general maintenance of the hotel is in a very poor condition and most corridors smelling musty. I would not recommend to others sadly as the location is excellent
I liked the honesty of the place, my welcome was friendly and personable. The hotel was clean and bright, but not pretentious and, unlike many other hotels, it didn't smell of chemical perfumes. Fab! I was able to open the window fully in the room, a real bonus for me. The bath was good, deep and wide enough and filled easily with lashings of hot water, and plenty of towels supplied. Good pleasant furniture in the room too. The hotel is in the middle of town so very easy access to the railway station and shops, which suited me very well indeed. I can't comment on food and bar as I didn't use them. There was a mini fridge in the room which was very useful to keep my real milk in, I never use the creamer stuff!
The room was hot. With the window open it was noisy. So, what's new? I'm used to living in the sticks where a conversation over the hedge can be heard a quarter of a mile away across the valley. Honest! There are pros and cons of air conditioning and the hotel has no control of the weather. I don't think the heating was on... if there was air con in the room I didn't find it. The lighting at the desk could be better, and a power socket near the bed would be good.
The George hotel is in a great spot close to shops and the railway. The staff where also friendly and helpful.
The wifi was temprimental, and the power went out a few times but was sorted out within 30mins or so.
- Location is central
- Hotel is poor quality. - Decor is dated and extreemly worn and tired. - Staff are slow and nonchalant...if you can find them. - Very poor for anyone who has mobility problems. There were stairs to everything and no lift. - Our "superior double" room (it was nothing but low standard) was feet away from the hustle and bustle of the main street, which was busy with people until approximately 4am. - The 4 star rating is a joke. The standards in this hotel are very low in my experience and opinion. - Hygiene standards are very low. The bathroom and shower-head took my breath away. - Asthma sufferers beware the dust!
Period features Spacious room Central location Food
I liked very much the location in the middle of Readiing - perfect!
The Rabbit Warren lay out and all the doors....
Got a bargain, Location is good, decent water pressure
No temperature control, mattress seemed well used/worn/old, pillows were very uncomfortable, room could do with being redecorated, it wasn't as nice as other Mercure hotels where we have stayed before
It is a lovely location with a history.
The open courtyard had a TV playing football etc. until 11.30. This was on when no one was watching it. Given that it was a warm night it was inconvenient to shut the double-glazed window. I had to request a bath towel. You have a warning in the rooms about paying for damages - what type of clients do you expect?
I arrivied early and asked if it was possible to book in..... yes was the answer and what a lovely receptionist i was greeted too she could not of help me more the short time i stayed at the george hotel .The room and bathroom was well maintained and spotless with free wifi .The hotel is in a very good location about a 5 mins. walk from the railway station and in the heart of reading.I would recommend this hotel ,and thank you for a lovely stay keep the good work up .
We decided to pick the hotel as we were going for a night out. Upon getting there we were greeted by a lovely polite receptionist. She told us where the room was. The whole of the hotel is very clean and for being in the centre of Reading, the rooms are very spacious. The showers for a hotel were excellent and a good temperature with enough towels. In the morning new towels were provided. Overall this is a very good hotel for the price
Location to City
No car parking available
no air con
The Irish guy who worked in the bar/restaurant.
Small bed. Floors not level so the bed was wonkey. Low ceilings (I kept hitting my head). Terrible breakfast. Very noisy location.
Loved this hotel for its history. Very central to shopping, library, church and railway.
Food just OK
being a bit of a regular, I got a free upgrade to executive - room was at the top of the hotel, no stairs, but really was worht the climb ...thank you!
no lifts (but then this is the oldest building in Reading, complete with wonky walls and floors so there is never going to be one). good hotel but definitely not for the infirm
Rome had very little natural light and only a terrible view of the hotels back yard. Noisy once resteraunt and bar opened.
