Not much every thing hit & miss.
Room very small /bathroom needs some work.
Having used this hotel for one night, and having stayed in many hotels, in both the UK and Europe, the list of issues found with this property is vast. Issue such as; *The whole establishment, certainly the parts that were used, looked tired and in uregnt need of decorating. *Windows would not shut correctly and were full of rot. *The bath panel in the room was damaged due to water leakage with mildew visiable on the panel and shower screen. *The heating system was noisey when the radiator was turned on, in an attempt to warm the room. *The property is less than 10 yards away from a train line, which disturbed sleep. *The drinks offered at the bar were of poor quality. *No VAT receipt was available for items purchased at the bar. *External doors were not securely shut meaning anyone could access the hotel rooms area. *Breakfast was poor with tables not being cleaned prior to other guests being seated at them. Due to my personal experience at this property i will look to avoid this in the furture at all costs.
The rooms are clean and tidy. Nice bar. Good location.
Train line very noisy for room at the rear. No wifi in rooms due to thickness of walls (age of property)
I was upgraded to a better room upon arrival which included a 4 poster bed with very good facilities. I had a comfortable sleep with good level of heating. Staff were helpful in calling me cab when I was running late.
The breakfast service was fairly slow in the morning so I only had cereal rather than cooked. Also the wifi and phone network signals in the hotel area were poor although the wifi was free which was good when it worked!
Clean sheets and towels Good quality toiletries Friendly staff Refreshed decor/
Trains very audible when window open Dining room needs upgrade
The George is located very centrally in Pangbourne. There is ample car parking. We didn't eat at the Hotel so can't comment on the food. The wifi worked ok in the bedroom - but had to phone down to reception for the password as it wasn't given to us when checking in. The staff were friendly and let us keep the car parked at the hotel throughout after we'd checked out as we caught a train to London for a few hours.
I booked the hotel at short notice as Newbury where I was working didn't have any vacancies, 20 minutes later pulled into the George, still undergoing refurbishment as the new owners had only been there 5 months, greeted very warmly, was concerned when I pulled up about the railway viaduct close to the hotel, got a room facing the Chinese restaurant on the road, never heard a sound all night, an excellent nights sleep, choice of draught ales was limited but was told that they would be getting guest beers in, lagers were plentiful, breakfast was ok, dinner was fair, also opposite was a Co Op if you needed anything else
nothing really, suited what I needed, the only issue was car park was limited, some large guest vans in there, but apart from that it was good
Bedroom was clean and comfortable. Food in restaurant was well thought out and presented at a reasonable price. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Shower did not have a proper mixer. Danger of scalding. Breakfast was not explained very well either by staff or via wall notices. Would expect real ground coffee not Nescafé at breakfast.
Decent Italian around the corner
Noisy pub underneath room. Mirror above the toilet not the sink No pole in the wardrobe to hang clothes on.
-The proprietor and staff were very friendly and helpful -The hotel is picturesque and great for a weekend getaway or country retreat - Good breakfast - WIFI available, which was great -Easy walk from the station and near to all the little shops, with a supermarket right across the road -Great pub for lunch and close proximity to other hotels and pubs, so plenty of meal choices
-Rooms were not very soundproof, so quite aware of neighbouring activities -long walk down higgledy-piggledy passages to the rooms, which is due to the age & design of the hotel and can't be helped - WIFI signal was quite weak in the rooms, again probably due to the size and design of this older hotel (at least it was offered, which was more than we had in London!)
Extremely efficient, very friendly and accommodating staff. Good, quality food. Comfy beds. Excellent room throughout. Welcoming to families. Staff went above and beyond. We will be visiting again and would highly recommend.
Good location in the centre of Pangbourne wonderful staff Very clean Hotel. New owners have only been in 3 months Would recommend this hotel
Breakfasts could have been better The hotel is at present being refurbished but will be beautiful when finished
Polite staff and nice, clean room
bed was too soft and the taxi arranged by the hotel was very expensive - £15 for a 1 mile journey.
Receptionist vijay could not of done more, was very welcoming and went out of his way to ensure a nice stay. Clean and tidy.
The beds are a bit soft, and the shower had no pressure to be able to work as a shower.
Welcoming staff, clean room, Many local resterants, eateries. Picturesque location. On our visit, the hotel had just been taken on by an Indian family, very organised and helpful, taking the bull by the horns, so expect improvements. They were interviewing for a chef at the time of our stay so I imagine their restaurant will be open by now.
Close to train line, so can hear them rattle past all night. Rooms tired.
local business, family run. clean rooms with comfortable beds. Great breakfast in the morning. Stayed here with the best man on the night before my wedding and were well looked after.
Pleasant owner and staff
Need of modernisation. New bathroom etc
Lovely weekend, staff couldnt do enough, husband with disabilities, so very helpful, many thanks to raj a his team, we will return.
Sausages could be improved.
Staff were very friendly, room was very clean and comfortable. Rooms very quiet
The room was spacious light and airy. The staff were friendly and very attentive. They really did their utmost to meet the needs of guests.
The entrance was unattractive but the owners may be about to renovate. They only took over 8 weeks ago.
Excellent welcome and friendly staff, breakfast very good and beds comfy, plus The Hotel has character being so old, will visit again.
As the owners have only been there for seven weeks it would not be fair to comment on minor things, They are refurbishing every day to an even better standard, nothing to moan about
EVERYTHING - I booked a superior double midweek and paid £99 room only. The hotel is worst I have ever experienced. The website quotes it as pleasant. Well I can only assume pleasant means something else in another language. My bath had a hole in it the size of my fist which had been repaired with sealant! Need I really go on? The TV was about 14" and had a seperate digi box it lost signal about every 10 mins for about 5mins. When I gave up and decided to get some sleep there was a group of men outside that were staying at the hostel - sorry, hotel and were very loud shouting and laughing for about 1/2 hour - this was at midnight! The carpet in the room was about 100yrs old and the bed was too by the look and feel of it. The whole place was dirty not just the room. The corridors, walls had dirt stains engrained in them. The ceilings had brown damp stains!! The guy on reception was quite obviously surprised when he read my booking, i thought it was strange at the time. Now I know it was because he was shocked and embarrassed i had paid £99 for a superior room and he knew what I was about yo experience. There young men hanging around in reception and what was obviously a gang of railway workers staying there. I am damn surenone of them were paying £99 per night!! The guy on reception was nice enough, he declared they had just taken over the hotel and it had only 6 weeks ago been shut down. It should have stayed shut!! I am also very disappointed with booking.com. I have used thesite for years and always found the info suppliedenough to make a judgement. On this occassion it let itself down. Makes me think there should be some sense of responsibilty to them.
Good value for money excellent breakfast and very pleasant friendly staff delightful stay thank you
1st room , the bathroom was bigger than actual room, moved to second room, problems with shower and non flushing toilet, also no ironing board , iron etc.
Location and price
Ploughman's lunch came with sliced bread, not a roll or crusty bread as anticipated. Large Malibu and coke came as a pint of cola and a measure of Malibu in a separate glass? Breakfast order was supplied as a full breakfast despite specific item not being ordered, although poached eggs were supplied as requested.
