Bedroom was clean and comfortable. Food in restaurant was well thought out and presented at a reasonable price. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Shower did not have a proper mixer. Danger of scalding. Breakfast was not explained very well either by staff or via wall notices. Would expect real ground coffee not Nescafé at breakfast.
Extremely efficient, very friendly and accommodating staff. Good, quality food. Comfy beds. Excellent room throughout. Welcoming to families. Staff went above and beyond. We will be visiting again and would highly recommend.
Good location in the centre of Pangbourne wonderful staff Very clean Hotel. New owners have only been in 3 months Would recommend this hotel
Breakfasts could have been better The hotel is at present being refurbished but will be beautiful when finished
Polite staff and nice, clean room
bed was too soft and the taxi arranged by the hotel was very expensive - £15 for a 1 mile journey.
Receptionist vijay could not of done more, was very welcoming and went out of his way to ensure a nice stay. Clean and tidy.
The beds are a bit soft, and the shower had no pressure to be able to work as a shower.
Welcoming staff, clean room, Many local resterants, eateries. Picturesque location. On our visit, the hotel had just been taken on by an Indian family, very organised and helpful, taking the bull by the horns, so expect improvements. They were interviewing for a chef at the time of our stay so I imagine their restaurant will be open by now.
Close to train line, so can hear them rattle past all night. Rooms tired.
local business, family run. clean rooms with comfortable beds. Great breakfast in the morning. Stayed here with the best man on the night before my wedding and were well looked after.
Pleasant owner and staff
Need of modernisation. New bathroom etc
Lovely weekend, staff couldnt do enough, husband with disabilities, so very helpful, many thanks to raj a his team, we will return.
Sausages could be improved.
Staff were very friendly, room was very clean and comfortable. Rooms very quiet
The room was spacious light and airy. The staff were friendly and very attentive. They really did their utmost to meet the needs of guests.
The entrance was unattractive but the owners may be about to renovate. They only took over 8 weeks ago.
Excellent welcome and friendly staff, breakfast very good and beds comfy, plus The Hotel has character being so old, will visit again.
As the owners have only been there for seven weeks it would not be fair to comment on minor things, They are refurbishing every day to an even better standard, nothing to moan about
EVERYTHING - I booked a superior double midweek and paid £99 room only. The hotel is worst I have ever experienced. The website quotes it as pleasant. Well I can only assume pleasant means something else in another language. My bath had a hole in it the size of my fist which had been repaired with sealant! Need I really go on? The TV was about 14" and had a seperate digi box it lost signal about every 10 mins for about 5mins. When I gave up and decided to get some sleep there was a group of men outside that were staying at the hostel - sorry, hotel and were very loud shouting and laughing for about 1/2 hour - this was at midnight! The carpet in the room was about 100yrs old and the bed was too by the look and feel of it. The whole place was dirty not just the room. The corridors, walls had dirt stains engrained in them. The ceilings had brown damp stains!! The guy on reception was quite obviously surprised when he read my booking, i thought it was strange at the time. Now I know it was because he was shocked and embarrassed i had paid £99 for a superior room and he knew what I was about yo experience. There young men hanging around in reception and what was obviously a gang of railway workers staying there. I am damn surenone of them were paying £99 per night!! The guy on reception was nice enough, he declared they had just taken over the hotel and it had only 6 weeks ago been shut down. It should have stayed shut!! I am also very disappointed with booking.com. I have used thesite for years and always found the info suppliedenough to make a judgement. On this occassion it let itself down. Makes me think there should be some sense of responsibilty to them.
Good value for money excellent breakfast and very pleasant friendly staff delightful stay thank you
1st room , the bathroom was bigger than actual room, moved to second room, problems with shower and non flushing toilet, also no ironing board , iron etc.
Location and price
Ploughman's lunch came with sliced bread, not a roll or crusty bread as anticipated. Large Malibu and coke came as a pint of cola and a measure of Malibu in a separate glass? Breakfast order was supplied as a full breakfast despite specific item not being ordered, although poached eggs were supplied as requested.
The location, and very helpful staff, had a newly decorated room
they charged us twice and then i had to contact them once i realised, they didn't contact me. they also forgot to mention that there was breakfast included when we checked in. also had the worst shower with barley a stream of water. friends staying in the next room was nicer so its luck of the draw i supple. pretty disappointed with this place. poor value for money and a pretty average experience.
The George has recently been taken over and so far they are doing a great job in turning it around... We stayed because of a wedding in the area, The staff were friendly and attentive and they did everything to look after us, including providing cuff links for one of the boys, opening the bar for us when we got back from the wedding and still offering us breakfast when we came down late in the morning. Overall a great stay, thanks for looking after us!
As I said it has been taken over and they are in the middle of making it there own so although the rooms we're clean and comfortable, they will be even better once the place has had a bit of a freshen up! Breakfast was ok, lots of it but would have preferred something a little smaller and the quality a bit better. We look forward to returning to see the changes.
The room was clean and comfortable and was much nicer than the downstairs reception led us to believe. Staff were friendly and helpful
The bar and hotel reception do not give a very good inpression of the much better accommodation. Food selection was limited and not to our taste.
Location and friendliness of the staff
There was absolutely nothing at all about this hotel that I liked.
This hotel has seen better days. The facilities are dated. It has a shabby appearance. My room was located right next to the railway line that runs to the rear of the hotel. As a consequence my rest was regularly disturbed by the sound of passing trains. The restaurant was closed so they were unable to offer breakfast. The TV reception was bad with very little or no digital signal. The wardrobe in my room had cobwebs. The temperature control on the radiators was broken, so they were on constantly. As it was hot I had to open the windows, resulting in even more train noise! The owners are new, they had only taken over the hotel within the last week. As a consequence they asked me to pay by cheque or cash as their electronic payment facility was not up and running. This was extremely inconvenient. They apologised for the lack of TV signal and said there was nothing they could do about it for now as they were new and were still trying to rectify all the problems they had inherited. The place was so bad I left after one night having booked for three. In my view this hotel needs substantial investment to bring it to a reasonable and acceptable modern standard. I wish the new owners well in their venture. However, I will never stay here again.
Easy to find, easy access to river.
Restaurant was closed, so no food, not even basic breakfast. TV in room was basic tube type with built in VHS! and poor reception. Access after 11:00 is sketchy as no late night opening or reception.
I did not like that I wasn't informed that there was no breakfast available at all and that I would have to go elsewhere. I thought that I had booked B&B for £70 which was reasonable. I was surprised and disappointed that the room I was given bore no relation whatsoever to the photographs displayed on the website and was of a much lesser standard I had been expecting. It was tired and shabby. The divan bed base was not covered by a valance. The curtains were cheap and badly hung. The decor badly needed refreshing.I would not stay there again or recommend it to anyone else.
Location was useful as the route to Thatcham avoided traffic. The staff were friendly.
Kitchen was not open despite being advertised as with a bar and restaurant and with a breakfast option. Not enough parking spaces for the number of rooms, plus the parking available was tight. Very old and tired. Bath was damaged with a shoddy repair job. Carpet had not been hovered.
