Room at the front was a little noisy being located on the Ashbourne Road, but I didn't notice it after a few pints of Mr Grundy's!
Characterful hotel with very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Good home cooked food and superb beer brewed on the premises
breakfast very poor for extra £8pppn. Room needs a deep clean and new carpet.
Querky pub with lots of character. beer brewed on site and fab bar meals. Didnt have to leave to venture into town as beer festival and band playing
The Kettle was an electrical hazard with bare wires and out of date PAT. it had a very short cable too. there was no curtains but a wooden shutter, shower wasn't very powerful.
Staff were very helpful and the building was gorgeous with traditional features
Excellent home brewed beer. Good bar snacks/meals (large portions)
The room was a single but was like it had just been put together to make up a single room. Nothing user friendly about it
Location was good
I booked on line and informed there were 2 remaining rooms. My partner and I arranged to meet there for a well deserved night away as a long awaited treat to ourselves. I travelled from work for aprox 1 hour and my partner travelled from home for an hour an half. And took the following day off work. We were meeting there at 6pm. At 5.25pm the hotel phoned to say they were over-booked and they had relocated us to a nearby "Days Inn". So instead of a 3 star relaxing break in a nice place we had to settle for a compromise at a lesser quality B&B that we didn't get to until almost 8pm. The evening was stressful, unrelaxed and our idillic getaway plans ruined. A complete shambles with no offer of compensation except a complementary bottle of wine if we ate there or stayed again! That didn't even come close to compensation for our let down!
The hotel looked nice and seemed to have a friendly relaxed and comfortable bar area. The online pictures looked great which helped us decide that this was the place we wanted to stay.
Brilliant staff esp. receptionist Claire and the young barman on the afternoon shift. Easy access for parking and walking into the city. Micro-brewery on site and a great bar
thought the room was dirty
it was convenient for a party I was going too
Digital TV signal kept breaking up, so TV un-watchable, lucky I had ipad to watch tv on.
Only criticism was the noise from the road so would ask for possiblity on one not overlooking the main road when staying again
Room was lovely and cozy with a very comfortable bed. The staff -especially the lady who cooked and served breakfast - were friendly and very pleased to help. I would definitely stay again and would recomend it to others
We Stayed in room 20 and the bathroom door was only openable from one side, due to important early start in the morning we forgot to mention it but if we where both in the bathroom with the door closed we would have been stuck. Bathroom floor was extremely cold, slippers would of been a good provide. High ceilings means cobwebs which my girlfriend hated due to hatred of spiders but that can't always be helped to to the height.
Only stayed the one night but we where very pleased with the room and location, very close to the university. The room was nice, comfortable and staff where good. Large room, largest one apparently and a four poster bed what's not to like about that.
The room was freezing I had to sleep in six layers to keep warm. The bathroom was old and dirty. The water pressure was dreadful and not worth having a shower for. The food from the bar tasted watery and I feel the room rate was way over priced for what they offer. I would never ever stay here again.
I didn't not like anything about my stay, it was a shocking experience.
Not very clean, cold coffee
Good location and free parking
Stayed over valentines weekend - would have been nice to have been pre-warned that only food menu available on 14th Feb was a set menu at £35....usual menu cancelled! Had to go looking elsewhere last minute!! Staff moods hit and miss at times.
Cosy room, very quiet at night considering a busy bar and restaurant.... nice :) Bar has great ale selection! Nice hotel theme.
The room was ridiculously freezing! The heating was on full and didn't warm up the room.
I liked the quietness of the place even though it was on a main road.
Staff really friendly & helpful. Food menu & quality excellent. Charm of Hotel building / layout. Reasonably priced. Pub & restaurant option.
Lovely quirky hotel. The gammon steak is to die for!
Had to boil water on the floor kettle lead short
attitude of staff - curt when we arrived and were not aware of checking in time. Unhelpful - never given wifi details - nobody helpful when we finally checked after 10pm due being at a function. The room was freezing cold with the storm winds blowing straight through sash windows that were not secondary glazed. This also led to excessive road noise. Staff did not know how to wait on even at breakfast. main items delivered to table without removal of anything finished. Shared plate of toast placed directly into my eating space not on to the centre of the table! Not one person asked us if our stay or food was ok.
location was good - period house with fabulous features in both bedrooms and social areas. Food was good.
Room too noisey from traffic and let too much light in from the cars coming down the street opposite. If stayed again would ask for a room at the back.
Food was excellent.Staff very helpful and pleasent.
The bathroom was filthy with black mould in the shower, room smelt of smoke and was covered in dust, dark and dingy. Won;t stay again.
The towels were clean and the room was warm
could be cleaner could be warmer could be quieter- traffic noise could be heard during busy hours as the room was in front of house
antique-type decor four-poster bed welcome and helpful staff spacious room and bathroom free wifi in bedroom yummy pea soup served in pub
only decaf coffee available. cigarrette burn on bedsheets. noisy door banging below. DISCO below for someone's 40th. It was making the bed vibrate and not in a good way! It didn't finish too late though
4 poster bed staff Parking Mr Grundy's Tavern and Brewery (next door)
