it was convenient for a party I was going too
thought the room was dirty
Digital TV signal kept breaking up, so TV un-watchable, lucky I had ipad to watch tv on.
Room was lovely and cozy with a very comfortable bed. The staff -especially the lady who cooked and served breakfast - were friendly and very pleased to help. I would definitely stay again and would recomend it to others
Only criticism was the noise from the road so would ask for possiblity on one not overlooking the main road when staying again
Only stayed the one night but we where very pleased with the room and location, very close to the university. The room was nice, comfortable and staff where good. Large room, largest one apparently and a four poster bed what's not to like about that.
We Stayed in room 20 and the bathroom door was only openable from one side, due to important early start in the morning we forgot to mention it but if we where both in the bathroom with the door closed we would have been stuck. Bathroom floor was extremely cold, slippers would of been a good provide. High ceilings means cobwebs which my girlfriend hated due to hatred of spiders but that can't always be helped to to the height.
I didn't not like anything about my stay, it was a shocking experience.
The room was freezing I had to sleep in six layers to keep warm. The bathroom was old and dirty. The water pressure was dreadful and not worth having a shower for. The food from the bar tasted watery and I feel the room rate was way over priced for what they offer. I would never ever stay here again.
Good location and free parking
Not very clean, cold coffee
Cosy room, very quiet at night considering a busy bar and restaurant.... nice :) Bar has great ale selection! Nice hotel theme.
Stayed over valentines weekend - would have been nice to have been pre-warned that only food menu available on 14th Feb was a set menu at £35....usual menu cancelled! Had to go looking elsewhere last minute!! Staff moods hit and miss at times.
I liked the quietness of the place even though it was on a main road.
The room was ridiculously freezing! The heating was on full and didn't warm up the room.
Staff really friendly & helpful. Food menu & quality excellent. Charm of Hotel building / layout. Reasonably priced. Pub & restaurant option.
Lovely quirky hotel. The gammon steak is to die for!
Had to boil water on the floor kettle lead short
location was good - period house with fabulous features in both bedrooms and social areas. Food was good.
attitude of staff - curt when we arrived and were not aware of checking in time. Unhelpful - never given wifi details - nobody helpful when we finally checked after 10pm due being at a function. The room was freezing cold with the storm winds blowing straight through sash windows that were not secondary glazed. This also led to excessive road noise. Staff did not know how to wait on even at breakfast. main items delivered to table without removal of anything finished. Shared plate of toast placed directly into my eating space not on to the centre of the table! Not one person asked us if our stay or food was ok.
Food was excellent.Staff very helpful and pleasent.
Room too noisey from traffic and let too much light in from the cars coming down the street opposite. If stayed again would ask for a room at the back.
The towels were clean and the room was warm
The bathroom was filthy with black mould in the shower, room smelt of smoke and was covered in dust, dark and dingy. Won;t stay again.
antique-type decor four-poster bed welcome and helpful staff spacious room and bathroom free wifi in bedroom yummy pea soup served in pub
could be cleaner could be warmer could be quieter- traffic noise could be heard during busy hours as the room was in front of house
4 poster bed staff Parking Mr Grundy's Tavern and Brewery (next door)
only decaf coffee available. cigarrette burn on bedsheets. noisy door banging below. DISCO below for someone's 40th. It was making the bed vibrate and not in a good way! It didn't finish too late though
The location of this hotel was ideal for my venue.
there was a party taking place the night I stayed which was extremely loud and rowdy until past midnight.
We were attending a surprise party. The hotel was in walking distance of the venue. We had the early bird menu, good size portions and good value at £9.95 each for 2 courses. My husband likes his cask ales of which he had a good choice. The staff were every friendly and helpful. Unknown to us other family members had also booked. At breakfast they ensured we sat together. We slept well did not hear any street noise (we live in the country) Would recommend . When next I go home will go for food.
We had to come home. one night not long enough!
Open fire friendly atmosphere, good food, helpful staff..
The shower in room 16 is very small .. I am a 5 3 tall small framed female and found it a very tight fit. my husband found it very difficult an could nt use it as he as a stroke. There was no bath available as an option. the sink is wash sink is small an right next to the toilet...
Loved friendly staff very helpful. Beautiful building lots of character.
Needs a good clean. Food not good . Cold room on arrival .
room was very clean and comfortable.
room was very cold. room was on main road found it hard to sleep.breakfast was NOT worth the price.
friendly staff excellent breakfast bed very comfy
our room was in the cottage.kettle plug inaccessible behind bed,had to use one on skirting board hence kettle on floor.kettle covered in dust, had to clean it prior to use.inside of drawers grubby hence did not use.no lamp near bed,had to turn light off by door! ok for one night not for longer stay
Atmospheric in olde worlds charm and a certain El Legance
No food available Sunday evening bar food was of a poor quality. Mainly chips with everything and Ver little of the main meal
Good bar/pub Food very good Very friendly and helpful staff Building is interesting
