The friendly receptionist and the view from the restaurant window. The breakfast was mediocre and not worth what we paid.
The floorboards were a nightmare they creaked every time you put your foot down and you could hear the people walking about. The windows weren't double glazed so you got all the traffic noise. The heating made a lot of noise when it came on at 6.a.m. all in all not a quiet night.
We were supposedly the only guests staying in the hotel that night, so why were we put in a room (228) directly underneath other guests (or staff) who kept us awake until 4.30am with their chatting, giggling and marching up and down the room. We were too tired to have a confrontation but just as we were dropping off a member of staff started shovelling coal just outside our room at about 2 am. The whole experience was a nightmare and we're very pleased we shall never be in that area again!!! Would only recommend you to an insomniac!
Very polite and helpful staff made you feel welcome.. Very nice food
Only issue was the shower didn't work properly
The Food was good Rooms clean and comfy The breakfast is good.
Location, was good, staff very friendly and fantastic breakfast.
Could not turn the heating down in the room. Like a cool room but God boiled alive for 3 nights, even with the window open in December.
Set on the river with a lovely walk for the dog. Breakfast superb, staff very friendly and helpful.
A bit of traffic noise, drain smell in the bathroom.
attractive location beside a river great for an early morning run
Open fires created a good atmosphere. Disabled people were not adequately catered for.
Hand cut chips were not good. Pre cooked or overlooked! I am not sure which.
Clean comfortable, dog allowed in bar
Food a bit overpriced
This place is a real gem, great rooms, excellent staff, amazing value
Super location, comfortable and clean room overlooking the river
As I was travelling across country on Christmas Day and therefore wasn't going to be arriving until after the restaurant had closed we ordered a sandwich platter..... very disappointing... a small selection of meats and cheese, with some small pots of egg mayo and cheese mix but no bread provided only breadsticks... sandwich platter perhaps not the best description
The staff where very friendly The bed was cosy, and the room was average.
The room was very noisy you could hear people upstairs, as floor boards where very creaky. The restaurant menu was provided in the room, however the menu provided in the room wasn't same prices in the restaurant itself. The menu was more expensive on new year.
Everythingroomwas clean and homely staff made us feel welcome bar meals were well worth the money
There wasnt anything we disliked apart from having to come home
Lovely family room, big log fire, delicious food, tasty ales, very helpful staff, Hearty breakfast, great value room charge.... we'll be back!!
Price of a glass of wine.... but its the same everywhere... and that's literally my only gripe..... maybe I should have bought the full bottle!! ;-)
Had a problem with the toilet in arrival - this then was solved immediately and we were moved to the bridal suite which was amazing ! Staff were soo lovely especially the events manager (sorry cant remember your name !!) definately going back !
Loved the atmosphere and the surroundings food was excellent
Not a lot
Beer cloudy, Fat needed changing in fryer Breakfast not included but not offered either.
position of hotel was fantastic looking over river as was view from bedroom window. Cosy lounge and bar for relaxing.
Room decor was little dated but clean and tidy.
The cleaning was very good specially in toilet and shower which I am sensetive on
The fire alarm twice disturb me which I think it was a fault in the system the one was late eve which it was annoying and I couldn't sleep till very very late.
The location, the bar food and the service in the evening was fab!
Breakfast was cold and the service was shocking. No bowls, glasses, menus available. When breakfast arrived it was cold.
I loved the venue, open fire and bed. The bathroom was adequate but the shower needed updating
Heating in the bedroom was not on and temp -5 outside. Had to pull out furniture to find a plug and hairdryer worked for 60 seconds and then stopped. Old fashioned version hairdryer.
Good size rooms. Excellent breakfast. Sizeable bar food, welcoming hotel. Certainly stay again Plenty of parking and quiet but I would imagine could egg very busy
Friendliness of staff, superbly equipped and extremely clean room, with tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities. Nice location on river and near a lovely bridge. Excellent
Overpriced meals (breakfast £10 !!) - good for those on an expense account! Fortunately there are more reasonably priced meal choices in nearby Darlington 6 miles away. Poor.
The original features, comfy bed, modern bathroom, lovely warm heating, tasty food, hot hot breakfast, views
dirty table at tea, lukewarm evening meal, staff smoking at the door
The Inn itself. Bargain price Open fire in one of the lounges. Courtyard car parking.
The vege-sausages served at breakfast. Cleanliness of lower parts of shower surround. (deposits of minerals and growth of mould. Parking not secure.
