bed had dirty cushions and pillows had holes in them Maid walked in twice to room not acceptable - didn't complain but should have Just had baby so was not nice night away in unclean expensive room
As above Very poor
Complementary upgraded to a suite with complementary whiskey. Balcony with views of the city was outstanding would definetly recommend a suite. Ideal location if visiting Edinburgh for a show at the Playhouse as its right next door.
That we couldn't stay longer!
Bedroom and surroundings were lovely.
Unreasonable amount of time we had to wait to check in and out, to be served at bar and had to wait 40 minutes for breakfast . Unacceptable.
We were attending thePlayhouze Theatre & TheGlasshouse is in an ideal situation for theatre visits and also easy access to shopping.gooddiscount for overnight parking at Omni Centre.
Location, design, room, staff.
Breakfast was average and unfortunately the expresso machine didn't work and they didn't have a back up, which was disappointing.
Great location for the theatre, shops and restaurants
No onsite parking
Excellent location next to Playhouse, John Lewis and Omni Centre.
Odd layout inside of hotel meant we had to get lift to 3rd floor only to walk down 6 flights of stairs to our room. Not great when you've got dodgy knees or after a long day shopping! Room key cards were temperamental, as were the lifts. Initially given double room when we had specified a twin so had to change rooms (down to another floor).
Location is excellent and the standard of cleanliness is always 100%
Very good breakfast with wide selection of local specialities ( smoked salmon, kipper fish , etc). Staff is very freindly. The bar with fireplace is great
General layout of the hotel- you need to pass number of long corridors to reach your room. Our room was located at level 1 and it was no lift connection between 1 and 2 level - only stairs....
Staff were excellent and we received a complimentary upgrade which made our stay in Edinburgh.
Up grade Decor Good reception girl, a Scott
No staff to unload or park car No staff to take cases to room Poor drinks selection, out of stock of some scotch and no ladies drinks Hard to spot building at night in rain no clear signage No tea English breakfast available after request, it never arrived Dirty glasses left after room serviced, and carpet not hovered Not great, sorry.
We were given an upgrade to lovely rooms looking out on the roof terrace. The staff were very helpful.
The bedrooms were very hot. The air con did not work well and was very noisy.
the distance from the car park and the cost of parking
Liked everything a lot! Only downside was not enough staff on reception, hanging around and 30 minutes to check in - the only bit that wasn't excellent!
nothing wos to much for the staff very helpful the hole stay wos so relaxing will stay again soon
everything wos great
Suite was spacious and had everything you could want, well,,,, almost !!! see the negative. Large comfy bed, tv & Wi-Fi that worked well. Staff friendly & nothing was too much trouble, almost !!
Only downside was the complimentry bar had 2 bottles of water in it !!!! When we got back to our room around 10.30pm there was 2 bottles of lager & 2 x 200ml of Prosecco sitting out on a table. Why no one thought that putting drinks that need to be chilled into the fridge puzzled me, and they took away the water that was in the fridge. We also got a voucher for a free "wee dram" but after being showed the list to choose from, the first 3 I asked for, they did`nt have. My Wife did eventually find one to try, but they would`nt let me have another drink ie Bourbon, as it HAD to be a whisky from the list. Both minor points but they do say you are in a 5 star hotel. It wont put me off returning though.
Upgraded to a suite with great view and complimentary whiskey from the bar. Situated next to Playhouse theatre which was ideal for us. Lovely bathroom and good bed. Great staff.
The staff couldn't do enough for me. From initial check-in to check-out, they were very attentive and extremely helpful. The hotel was a very high standard and location is very convienient for city center. In all, a great place to stay.
We went to Edinburgh to celebrate a birthday and the hotel gave us an upgrade to a truly beautiful room with a massive balcony and a great view. I love how spacious the room was, how bright it was, and that it all the facilities in the room such as iPhone speakers and a coffee machine. The staff were also very friendly and everything was within walking distance. The wifi was free and fast which was great.
Excellent location, close to Princes Street and Waverley Station
No real bar or restaurant. Poor level of customer service. Long waits for cooked breakfast. Inadequate level of cleaning for a hotel of this type.
Most of our expectations were met.
The new room we were staying in was a long way from reception when you have a lot of luggage and there are no lifts in some of the parts of the building.
Central location , Marriott brand
No restaurant, or any other facility associated with a 4/5 start hotel
First of all, this is unique property. I booked one of the studio suites and the balcony overlooking the square was easily the most remarkable aspect of this hotel. The room itself was spacious with a great layout. The roof garden is fabulous. The staff were friendly and helpful when approached.
The location leaves something to be desired. It's on the edge of a somewhat sketchy area of town, and a bit of a walk to get to the sections most tourists will want to visit. The bar/lounge area is little more than a wider section of the hotel corridor with a small bar up against one wall and not the sort of place you'll find yourself socializing and making new friends at the end of the day. While courteous, the staff were largely absent and standoffish: little more than a smile in passing when crossing the lobby. All in all, while I enjoyed my stay at this unique, quirky boutique, it's not up to the standard of other 5-star hotels I've stayed in, and I think I'd have been really disappointed if I didn't have the large suite with a balcony. For the money, I think you'd be better served staying at one of the more traditionally luxurious 5-stars in the old town.
Didn't get my request for a balcony Air con incredibly loud when in operation and came on with a real "clunk" - poor maintenance. Its looking a bit tired for a premium price point.
Position, beautiful building, decoration and layout, roof gardens, views from roof garden / balcony, great rooms, good staff.
Slightly more corporate feel now it's Marriott as opposed to privately owned, less 'quirky' than it used to be.
