Score from 59 reviews Very good
Fantastic location. The Shirley Basset tribute evening was excellent.Has been a wonderful hotel at one time and you can see that they are in working progress .Debbie the duty manager was very helpful pleasant
The food was far , the dinning hall was tired and in need of updated, and the smell was terrible. We had booked in for 3 nights but we could only stay for to just could not face that dinning hall or food for another night
insufficient heating in room and no shower curtain
price, location, and Db&b option
Its an old hotel and a little run down, but see the good points. We would stay their again.
Location was good
Poor decoration in room - ceiling paper falling off Poor mattress - lumpy, creaky, damp Shower freezing cold and just a trickle Lighting awful Breakfast poor - I ordered porridge and it had the texture and colour of wall bonding. Yuk.
The entertaiment lounge
General decor and threadbare carpets
it's walking distance to Rothesay's centre
no shower, strictly bath. but the water was hot, that's for sure. Good breakfast, not great as I had later on up in Killin, but OK.
Double bed not a kingsize. Terrible shower. Nothing a good clean and a bottle of bleach couldnt sort out.
Beautiful location, food was nice.
The rooms need upgrading, windows were dirty as was window ledge, carpet could have been cleaner. Entertainment was boring.
Beautiful Victorian Architecture with lovely grounds and gardens and beautiful sea views from some public areas when the coaches are not blocking the view.
This is a large handsome once grand Hotel now very tired and used mainly for coach tours and not for the individual traveller. No wifi in bedrooms old battered TV with 4 channels and a dated bathroom with wallpaper and Tiles coming away from one wall. Parking can be a problem.
reasonable price, good location 15 minutes walk to town
interior of room looks old and tired. Dark Green carpet is full of dust. Decor is not very modern.
The view from the terrace
The price - £89 for a mediocre room. The only guests who seemed to count were on coach tours. Won't be returning!
Location is fabulous, in the centre of Rothesay but quiet with great views from the verandah. Rooms are comfortable and clean and a sea view is a must.
Nothing but some guests may not like the fact that the hotel is geared to coach parties. We were independent guests and the only little irk was dinner was served between the hour of 6.30 and 7.30pm which was a bit earlier than we would normally eat. Service was friendly and fast!
Aggressive nature of staff. Poor hotel room and dirty and stained carpet. Parking facilities awful Poor location
Rooms clean and spacious.staff friendly.breakfast good.
Shortage of parking, fortunatelyMum has disabled badge as hotel is up a steep hill.
just loved the whole atmosphere of the hotel ver relxing .
the food and service in the dinning room were excellent
the pillows were lumpy the beds themselves were comfortable The showerhead was broken and we had to shower holding it and it slipped in my husband's hand and sprayed over the bathroom floor we used the bath mat to mop up the spill and found the floor filthy
Staff were very friendly
Shoe box room for £75.00 a night. will not be back. there was even a snail under the window sill. very poor water pressure at the shower even although the shower and tray was a modern one.
Imposing location. Faded grandeur.
Lack of parking. Uncomfortable beds.
Great to stay in a large victorian building. Plenty of history and great location. Views from most rooms are excellent. Staff very friendly. Shabby rooms, but very comfortable.
It's a bit run down and caters mainly to an older age group. It's a typical scottish coach hotel.
Lovely building with great views at the front.
We had a room at the back with no views. Rooms are dated and badly in need of redecoration and upgrading.
staff were helpful and friendly, good breakfast!
Decor was a little tired
STAFF WERE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL
BIT OLD FASHIONED COULD DO WITH AN UPDATE NOT A LOT OF ATMOSPHERE
Location, great view
Weak water pressure and uncontrollable temperature of the shower. Cramped room. Limited parking Caters mainly for tour buses, others get short shrift.
I liked the beautiful building and the grounds. The location was good and the scenery stunning.
The room was scruffy with peeling paintwork. Some of the resturant staff could not speak English clearly. The food was discusting and very poor quality. It was a set menu for 3 courses but it was not worth the price. Customer service was seriously lacking and the management was not much better!
The hotel was nicely furnished in an old worldly style. Carpets were bright and new in my hallway. Room immaculate. storage room for baggage while waiting for room or after check-out. Cheerful respectful staff. Wonderful views. Evening entertainment. Breakfast staff very attentive, food delicious. Last minute deal provided excellent value for money.
Hotel definitely caters to coach tours. Desk manager was completely unaccommodating toward single visitor for one night. No newspapers, complementary or to purchase, to while away time until my first appointment (rain made it dismal & unnecessary to walk into town) That was a disappointment, because I was so sick of killing time until noon, I left the island to get back to the comfort of my own home. Also, heating was needed to dry out my wet clothes and take the chill off being drenched in the afternoon downpour. Couldn't figure out how to put the radiator or towel dryer on, so took damp clothing home next day.
