After several stays we were slightly disappointed at the quality of the evening meal. Not quite up to previous standard we thought. It is rather expensive..Has there been a change of management (the hotel name has changed to 'The Grand') and are there consequences ?
Tranquil and delightful stay. Staff excellent as always.
Some rooms are nicer than others (inevitably). Mine was over the kitchen and was a bit noisy from very early in the morning and not a particularly pleasant outlook. Although it had many nice features I wouldn't choose this room again. There was free wifi but I couldn't access it in the bedroom
Overall very pleasant and lovely location. Very nice staff.
Only very slight negative was no Wi fi in the room. Out of range.
Service excellent. Comfortable rooms. Varied and well cooked menu. Wonderful views. Quiet and peaceful location.
beds were a bit firm
The helpful and friendly staff
We were given a room in the lodge which was fine but would have preferred to be in the hotel itself.
Comfortable lounge and bar area. Close to village centre. Excellent dining room with view down to lake.
everything good apart from language barrier with some staff in dining room.
The location, the views and the staff were brilliant
lovely welcoming real fire
Bed was too hard didn't get much sleep
Food was good, bedroom nice
Nothing really, our room (24) was small, but the views were good and it wasn't an issue.
Perfect location, near the centre of the village but it had an away from it all feeling with very little passing traffic. The views from the public rooms were beautiful, the lounges were spacious and the food was very good. All in all this hotel has a relaxed homely feel which we appreciated.
we felt it was like an old folks home!! Not many younger people. The bar could be made more welcome, instead the poor lass running the bar seemed to be doing everything else as well. She deserved a medal. The decoration is dated, needs a make-over. Then it would get an excellent mark.
The food was very good. The hotel was clean Very relaxed hotel
Bed could have been more comfortable, but I slept well none-the-less.
excellent staff. All well-trained and tried hard to please without being obsequious. Nothing too much trouble.
Our accommodation was in the annex, not a problem unless raining heavily!
Setting, grounds, well maintained facilities, very good meals of a high standard.
The decor is a little dated, but in good state of repair. I would have liked a cocktail as a pre-dinner drink but the bar staff did'nt appear to know how to prepare one. There are a lot of very mature people staying there, us included but much preferred to unruly children chasing around, couples these day's seem to be totally oblivious to the consideration of others these days.
A very pleasant stay at The Gold Rill.We had a lovely room, room 10 overlooking the Lake with a sort of Mini-sitting room. An area with a coffee table and two very comfortable chairs overlooking the lake, good lighting and some local magazines. Super bathroom with very bright lights all the way around the mirror, brilliant for putting on make-up !!The food was superb. A starter, sorbet or soup the main course and my pudding was to die for, Raspberry Roulade,Yummy
Average food Some staff not helpful A bit too sedate
Dinner good but rather rushed. Courses arrived very quickly one after the other. I do appreciate that some diners would prefer this very prompt service but we would have liked a short break. On one morning bins were emptied outside our window (room 6) at just after 6am. Very noisy bottle and can collection etc for about 10 minutes!
Enthusiastic, helpful young staff Comfortable, peaceful seating areas Canapes pre-dinner Some guests suggested dinner had to be taken at 7.30. That was not the case Dogs not allowed in the hotel
The proximity of the hotel to Grasmere made it great to wander into the village and start our walks from there without taking the car.
Staff Food Attention to detail
A liitle expensive. Meal times to regimented
Comfort. Well placed, friendly staff.
Walk from Lodge to Hotel in pouring rain!
High standard of restaurant and wonderful views.
Bar drinks a little expensive.
Super king size bed. Extremely clean. Lovely breakfast. Fantastic location.
Room was on the small side and a little old fashion
The view from our room was spectacular
Ground floor room in "Rillside Lodge" (annexe) suffered a little from noise from the room above (television on one night - footsteps and creaking floorboards throughout the stay). More of a minor irritation than a real problem though.
The food was excellent as was the service (although possibly slightly too fast). The setting was just as you'd expect from an hotel situated on the edge of Grasmere.
Staff was extremely friendly and always there to help. Our room was huge and nicely decorated View of the lake in the breakfast room
