everything good apart from language barrier with some staff in dining room.
The location, the views and the staff were brilliant
lovely welcoming real fire
Food was good, bedroom nice
Bed was too hard didn't get much sleep
Perfect location, near the centre of the village but it had an away from it all feeling with very little passing traffic. The views from the public rooms were beautiful, the lounges were spacious and the food was very good. All in all this hotel has a relaxed homely feel which we appreciated.
Nothing really, our room (24) was small, but the views were good and it wasn't an issue.
The food was very good. The hotel was clean Very relaxed hotel
we felt it was like an old folks home!! Not many younger people. The bar could be made more welcome, instead the poor lass running the bar seemed to be doing everything else as well. She deserved a medal. The decoration is dated, needs a make-over. Then it would get an excellent mark.
excellent staff. All well-trained and tried hard to please without being obsequious. Nothing too much trouble.
Bed could have been more comfortable, but I slept well none-the-less.
Setting, grounds, well maintained facilities, very good meals of a high standard.
Our accommodation was in the annex, not a problem unless raining heavily!
A very pleasant stay at The Gold Rill.We had a lovely room, room 10 overlooking the Lake with a sort of Mini-sitting room. An area with a coffee table and two very comfortable chairs overlooking the lake, good lighting and some local magazines. Super bathroom with very bright lights all the way around the mirror, brilliant for putting on make-up !!The food was superb. A starter, sorbet or soup the main course and my pudding was to die for, Raspberry Roulade,Yummy
The decor is a little dated, but in good state of repair. I would have liked a cocktail as a pre-dinner drink but the bar staff did'nt appear to know how to prepare one. There are a lot of very mature people staying there, us included but much preferred to unruly children chasing around, couples these day's seem to be totally oblivious to the consideration of others these days.
Average food Some staff not helpful A bit too sedate
Enthusiastic, helpful young staff Comfortable, peaceful seating areas Canapes pre-dinner Some guests suggested dinner had to be taken at 7.30. That was not the case Dogs not allowed in the hotel
Dinner good but rather rushed. Courses arrived very quickly one after the other. I do appreciate that some diners would prefer this very prompt service but we would have liked a short break. On one morning bins were emptied outside our window (room 6) at just after 6am. Very noisy bottle and can collection etc for about 10 minutes!
The proximity of the hotel to Grasmere made it great to wander into the village and start our walks from there without taking the car.
Staff Food Attention to detail
Comfort. Well placed, friendly staff.
A liitle expensive. Meal times to regimented
High standard of restaurant and wonderful views.
Walk from Lodge to Hotel in pouring rain!
Super king size bed. Extremely clean. Lovely breakfast. Fantastic location.
Bar drinks a little expensive.
The view from our room was spectacular
Room was on the small side and a little old fashion
The food was excellent as was the service (although possibly slightly too fast). The setting was just as you'd expect from an hotel situated on the edge of Grasmere.
Ground floor room in "Rillside Lodge" (annexe) suffered a little from noise from the room above (television on one night - footsteps and creaking floorboards throughout the stay). More of a minor irritation than a real problem though.
Staff was extremely friendly and always there to help. Our room was huge and nicely decorated View of the lake in the breakfast room
What a scenic location and the staff were incredibly obliging. When they discovered I was the only person staying in a double room they halved the price on the spot. Very impressed!
Well appointed, spotlessly clean rooms; helpful and friendly staff.
Everything - we were in The Lodge and it was excellent lovely big room with lots of space, bathroom spacious and clean. Nice short walk through the grounds to hotel in the morning for breakfast gave us a proper appetite. Breakfast spolit for choice. Extra touch in the Lounge in the evening complimentary after dinner mints
Nothing to dislike
Great room. Good service. Fine food
A little behind the times
1) Quality of food: had breakfast & dinner x3; 2) Caring staff: nothing seemed too much trouble; 3) Beautiful surroundings; 4) Car parking on site; 5) Comfortable lounges/rooms; 6) Hope to fit in a return visit!
1) Sloping ceiling in room 29; saw stars, when my head came in contact with it! 2) Moving rooms. Probably my fault, as I only gave a week's notice of our visit! 3) Weather rather inclement, but it did not keep us in!
