The Golden Fleece Hotel  

Friendly, efficient staff. Good breakfast.

Badly marked wooden surfaces in bedroom (due to hot tea/coffee cups being placed on them.) Although clean it was very offputting and spoilt what was otherwise a clean, bright, compact mews room.

The whole ambience of the hotel is excellent, Friendly staff with clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent Breakfast to set you up for the day. All set in beautiful North Yorkshire, what more could you ask for. I will definitely stay again at The Golden Fleece and recommend it to others.

Unfortunately I was only staying one night.

We loved the location and the history. The staff was excellent and was willing to go above and beyond our expectations.

Second visit 30 years apart and still a wonderful old hotel. Dining room a pleasure to see and great food. Staff were helpful and kind.

Lack of lift!

Hotel was friendly and receptionist very helpful. We liked the dining room and food and service was good. Bar closed for refurbishment. Parking easy and access to town was good.

Bedroom and bathroom spacious but decor was tired and needs updating. No assistance available for help with bags and we were on top floor.

The friendliness, the food just the whole atmosphere.

The cleaning staff trying to get in to my room before I had left they weren't happy I was still there and it was only 9.15am.

A friend and I both booked a single room for a night. He was charged £60 for a room in the hotel whilst I was charged £62.50 for a room across an unlit yard in the mews. I was also required to eat my evening meal in the public bar while others were allowed into the restaurant.

Friendly staff. Excellent food. Comfortable bedroom.

Having to leave by 10:00am. Later in the morning would give you more time to enjoy the breakfast and not feel rushed.

The food was excellent. Staff at reception extremely pleasant, welcoming and friendly. Breakfast restuarant staff needed to be a bit more pleasant and attentive.

The bedroom on the top floor. No lift and climbing stairs with luggage very difficult. It would have been better if we were offered a more convenient room or given the option to not book if we had known the stairs we had to climb.

didnt like waiting at the bar for about six minuets while the bar man was in celler,we thought the two girl who were waiting on at breakfast did not give any info to were the juice and cereals were, as was the same with the people at the next table.

lovely hotel right in the heart of the market square. Good centre for touring in the area.

Nice and comfortable hotel, I arrived at 9.15pm after a long drive, the kitchen stayed open a few minutes longer and served me a delicious steak and ale pie, one of the best ever had !

I had a good meal, the room was clean and tidy. There was ample parking.

The bathroom was a bit too small. the mattress was too hard

A very comfortable generously sized room, good food, friendly helpful staff.

The television was small and did not function reliably. The noise from traders setting up the market stalls outside the hotel starting at 4.30am! This is not something the hotel has control over but the hotel could benefit from double glazing of front facing rooms.

Lovely relaxing warm and friendly hotel. Beautiful meals. Lovely and helpful staff. We will definately book again.

Some of the most friendly and helpfull staff you could ever wish to meet. Very comfortable and spotlessly clean room (booked room 26 which had excellent reviews... and rightly so !) Lovely restaurant which served a top class breakfast. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone and shall certainly return !

Staff were very accommodating when organising an early check in for us.

The cost of a very dated tatty room with a view of roofs at the side of the hotel, when booking we had been lead to believe we were getting a room at the front looking out onto the market square we were very happy with this - it even warned you of an early start on market days and advised to request a quieter room if you did not want to be disturbed by market traders setting up! we made no such request.
