Great hotel, polite and well trained staff, great position in the middle of town
Beds not the comfiest in the world
The noisemade by people in and out of rear entrance ,toilet and bar as our room no21 was over the top of them. The rear entrance is lcked at 12.30am and re-opened at 6.00am exactly the amount of sleep we both got on a sunday morning.
Friendly staff and very helpful, lovely hotel highly recommend
Helpful and friendly reception and bar manager. Breakfast was excellent. Room was clean and functional, the exit light was too bright and lit the room up. Has its own parking area, drinks could maybe have been cheaper for guests. Nice decor and in keeping with its history.
Exit light in the room too bright and drinks maybe cheaper for guests. Small things really and nothing to put you off.
NO HOT WATER IN THE MORNING FOR EARLY SHOWER.
breakfast was excellant and staff very helpful and friendly
the bed was dreadful really need to be upgraded
Staff very poor
really nice hotel, we had a lovely meal on the Saturday night and would have been keen to eat there on the sunday as well but obviously staff need time off, staff were nice, the hotel really felt homely and it looked as though you were doing well and really cared, well done and thanks for a great stay
We really appreciate being able to have the dog with us in the hotel and was one of the reasons we booked but it is a pity it couldn't go into at least one corner of the bar, we would have spent more time there as the beer was excellent.
Room was lovely.
Staff at breakfast a little 'grumpy'. Originally given a trim when booked a double. The receptionist changed straight away so why not the correct room to start wit. Light in bedroom and bathroom did not work. Only found out in early hours of morning when I needed it! Have stayed at other places nicer for less money.
EVERYTHING except as over =
TINY " double " bedroom a great disappointment = inconvenient ! Hotel COLD ! NO prior notice of " No food available on Sunday evening ! " ? Unhelpful/disinterested, off puting female receptionist -
Stay over Friday to Sunday in Northallerton quite a few times a year its a lovely hotel, good atmosphere, very welcoming staff its home from home. Location is very good too.
Cant think of anything I dont like.
Staff are friendly and very helpful
The room was large & comfortable, breakfast was of a good standard-we also had an evening meal which was very nice. The Golden Lion is in a very good location for exploring Nortallerton & the surrounding area.It was good to be able to park free near the hotel and the town is served by plenty of buses,
There wasn't anything that we didn't like.
The restaurant does not look very spectacular but do not be put off. I had baked hake on a bed of fennel. It was beautifully cooked and presented and fantastic value for money. There is plenty of car parking at the rear.
Nothing to dislike
Hotel very comfortable food very good plenty of places to sit and relax. The staff very pleasant best poached eggs I've had in a hotel. Will be back for another weekend. Carol and Jim Blyth
The location is great, middle of Northalleron High Street. Staff were welcoming, polite and friendly. We were there for a family party in the hotel itself and it was a perfect occasion. Good breakfast, served till 10am.
Stayed in room 16 - view not great and but it was quiet. Didn't smell quite fresh - maybe a smoking room? Bed comfy but the pillows were hard and the smoke alarm above the door has an exceedingly bright green light. Hot water was literally scalding and the mixer tap for the shower wasn't working correctly so only hot water came out. We reported this at reception and received an apology but I wasn't convinced they were as concerned as they should have been that my mother burnt her feet while trying to adjust the temperature. The only way to reach the tap was to lean through the scalding shower. I hope this has now been fixed, but do beware.
Ready for an update
Handy location for shops. Lovely evening meal and breakfast. The room was spacious and clean with a good selection of teas and coffees. Staff very friendly and helped with lounge up to our room which we were very grateful for. Definitely planning another visit.
We could not find anything that we disliked.
Traditional old coaching inn that has retained quirky features! Bathrooms have been updated and are now lovely. Bedroom I was in also seemed to have had a facelift without losing the character. Food and service in the restaurant was very good, both breakfast and dinner.
I prefer softer pillows. The room was chilly when I first arrived and whilst residents have control over the heating in the room it took a while to get the room warm, ....would have been nice for the heating to have been on before I arrived.
Good menu in restaurant.
No lift to second floor.
The room was very clean and well furnished. The food was very good and there is a large selection for evening meals
Our room was at the front, on to the high street, as we stayed on Saturday night, it was noisy until 4.30 am, so not much sleep.
huge and delicious breakfast, friendly staff, very comfortable, great value
too hot but it was an unusually hot night
Good value hotel, with a central town location.
The noisy night club at the rear of the hotel gggrrrŕrrrr.the pillows badly need changing .....
Hotel was lovely, happy with the room and the breakfast was great. Location is excellent.
Well, unfortunately the fair was in town right outside the front and no sooner did that racket stop, then the nightclub out the back kicked off. So, no we didn't sleep well, but appreciate these things are notmyour fault. Also the shower needs looking at, I can spit faster!
Clean - friendly staff - good food generous portions -safe parking -interesting layout.
