huge and delicious breakfast, friendly staff, very comfortable, great value
too hot but it was an unusually hot night
Good value hotel, with a central town location.
The noisy night club at the rear of the hotel gggrrrŕrrrr.the pillows badly need changing .....
Clean - friendly staff - good food generous portions -safe parking -interesting layout.
Newly refurbished spacious room. Good location and parking. Free wifi.
No hairdryer in room. Condensation in bathroom soaked the windowsill. Bathmat not good enough to prevent slipping. Shower temperature not easy to control.
large carpark available in an area of limited parking spaces.
Some disruption in the corridor outside my room due to renovation work
Staff were friendly and helpful had an interview and they gave info on the area plus looked after my bags the next day. Room wad lovely. Food excellent.
It was opposite a bakery so was woke in the wee hours by thete delivery.
Nice clean room. Had been recently decorated as slight paint smell. Comfortable beds and really good cooked breakfast. Staff nice a friendly and allowed us to check in a bit earlier so could drop bags off.
Annoying green security light above door kept me awake a bit one of the nights but otherwise a very good place to stay.
Food in restaurant excellent. Impressed with the way they are upgrading the accommodation with many bedrooms being refurbished. Good, free car parking facilities.
Instant coffee at breakfast because they wouldn't turn the fresh coffee machine on! At breakfast it took longer to produce one croissant than a full English!
Good breakfast for the price. Location great for Central Northallerton. Friendly staff.
Staircases to our room (described by staff member as "in the Gods") would be a challenge for some people (quite steep in places) although I am sure that Golden Lion staff would be helpful if asked.
Excellent evening meals at the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff
Everything was fine
The menu could be a little more original.
All very good
Drinks were expensive
food excellent bar patio newly referbished room
Comfortable beds. Good staff for the most part and great breakfast.
Presumeably the manageress/owner's attitude at the start was terrible. Music on late into the night. Shower doesnt work well for temperature.
The food was good and reasonably priced. Parking was easy and free. And my room had recently been refurbished with a new bathroom.
Wifi was a bit hit and miss and could be slow.
Service was a bit slow in the restaurant - we had to wait 45 mins from ordering to receiving our food. When it did arrive it was excellent as was the breakfast the following day
Location, absolutely super. Being in the centre of town meant that we had easy access for using this as a base, also that we could walk around the market (Wednesday), loads of good quality shops, cafes and other eateries...plus playpark three minutes away. Staff were very pleasant and the several items we required were provided immediately. Food was excellent quality.
The room was slightly disappointing. The hotel has been upgraded with some work still going on, although the work did not disturb us at all. Apparently they are trying not to give out our room at present, work has only just been completed and it is being "snagged". Unfortunately the water temperature on the shower is extremely difficult to control at present....I gave up after 5 minutes but my husband was able to idenitify where the tap needed to be to give a safe temperature...not ideal but we reported this as we left and said that it should be fixed urgently for safety reasons. The room was adequate but lacked "homely" touches. .... it was also a long long walk from reception, fortunately we could use the fire escape door for a short cut. There were no wall lights or bedside lamps so we had to have ceiling lights on so that I could read while my husband wanted to sleep. Staff provided a lamp immediately when I asked for one. The room was very warm and the window in the bedroom wouldn't open, so we depended on opening the bathroom window to give us a slight draught. No top sheet on the bed, just the duvet, but a top sheet was provided as soon as we asked for it. I don't THINK there were any pictures, and the furniture was dark and tired. The food was delicious but very slow in coming in the evening, breakfast was delicious and quick. All this was more than balanced by the willingness and friendliness of the staff, the good food and the location....and those are the reasons that we would recommend the hotel. I'm sure the "snagging" process will sort out the other problems and you'd have a good stay at The Golden Lion. We would definitely go back.
Friendly staff Meals served until late (due to be finishing but still served me) Opposite Betty's and close to Lewis and Cooper (Foody heaven) Street market outside for fresh veg, fish etc Close to North York Moors and Dales
Soap dish broken on bath side Steep steps to room However, minor issues that did not detract from the stay
Good service at an excellent room rate and good dinner in the evening.
Room was clean and freshly painted. Breakfast was lovely. Staff were very helpful.
Everything was good!
The location was good - hotel clean and comfortable.Breakfast was good and it was great that we could take our dog.We were at a family celebration so know the area well.
Noisy on sat night until about 4 in the morning which wasn't the hotel's fault - England match was on. The hotel staff could have been friendlier. Not one smile from any of them (except for the chambermaids who were very nice) the whole weekend!
Excellent location, superb breakfast and a very clean room overlooking the High Street.
Although car parking was advertised as free, upon arrival parking was full due to a function and other arrangements had to be made for two hours.

An odd humming noise I couldn't work out where it was coming from.. somewhere near my room.
Stayed many times over the past 15 years. Always of a high standard and excellent freshly cooked breakfast.
Loved the location, and the food for the evening meal was excellent, great value for money. The evening staff were efficient and helpful.
Negative attitude of the staff at breakfast, no organisation, no pleasant 'good mornings', pretty gloomy really.
