Settle is a lovely village and the Lion is a beautiful old inn, full of character. You are welcomed by two roaring fires, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was wonderful and so was dinner - lovely fresh home-cooked food. The room was a good size and the bathroom was very spacious. We really enjoyed our stay.
The only problem for me was I'm allergic to doghair and it's a dog friendly hotel.
Fab roaring log fire gave place great welcoming feel. Staff lovely as was food.
Grubby net curtains in bedrooms.
The staff were all helpful and pleasant. The bar area provided excellent quality and value food, and there was live folk music in the adjoining room. Both areas having a log fire. The bedrooms were clean, and comfortable. The breakfast choice was excellent and plentiful. overall a great value hotel
The d Food was excellent
No parking, which was not. Ace clear at the point of booking. Facilities dated. Cleanliness of room - fair. Lots of dust webs on the ceiling!
We hadn't stayed in Settle before but were meeting friends who'd we'd met at college 30 years ago and this was mid way for most people. The photos on the website were a little misleading, as our bedroom was rather shabbier than the photos would have you believe. However, everything was clean and we had lots of space. It looks like there are some renovations goins on as part of the downstairs area is very modern and the other quite dated. The young duty manager who looked after us was a great asset to the pub/hotel - he seemed to be the only person there who wanted to ensure everyone was looked after. There was an occasion when we were waiting to have our room allocated that not only was he looking after the poeple in front of us, he was trying to ensure that the people at the bar were being served as well as organising the answering of a telephone, despite a young girl standing next to it !!! Am in the service industry myself and would offer this young man a job any day of the week, if we were based in Settle. The breakfast range was good especially for someone who is really fussy - though the toaster was a challenge for a number of guests that morning. Had it not have been for him, we would have rate this hotel much lower.
Bedroom a little shabby. Walking into the hotel directly into the bar area, a little intimidating especially two ladies together. Very noisy loo / water tank. Towels a little thin and worn, but plenty of them. We paid £95 for a twin room which we thought was a little over-priced considering the room we were in though at the time of booking, I found that accommodation was limited in Settle so possibly puts the price up. Didn't realise that there was no parking and so had to use pay & display facilities.
very nice bedroom room all bathroom.
Location, log fire, ambience of the bar areas). Great choice of beer and food. Plenty of ready heat in the central heating and hot water in the bathroom. Flask of fresh milk is a nice touch for the room.
lack of bedside table one side of double bed - that's all!
Setting, town lovely and good base for some great walks. Allowed our dog to stay with us in room. Rooms good and clean Restuarant was lovely with good food and a good bustling atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Good value!
Our room was street facing and we had a fair bit of road noise early morning. Also a fair bit of clanking as radiators warmed up. Shower a bit weak.
Staff were really helpful and friendly. Food was lovely, really welcoming and relaxing atmosphere - lovely log fire. Would definitely visit again with my family!
The staff were very friendly
There was only 1 key for our room and it was never at reception when we returned from a day out and the staff had to go and find it. No milk was left in our room for the tea & coffee, despite requesting this was done. Slow service at breakfast, it took over an hour on the first morning, although the service improved. There were not enough staff (2) to cover the Reception, Bar, Telephone & Dinning Room
Very noisy, paper thin walls. No curtain in the bathroom!
WE LIKED THE FIRE AND AMBIENCE ON ARRIVAL
UNDERSTAFFED, FIRST NIGHT DUE TO LACK OF STAFF EVENING MEAL COLD, SECOND NIGHT STAFF OCCUPIED WITH A FUNCTION AND ALL TABLES RESERVED.
Friendly staff. Clean pleasant comfortable room with large bathroom. Good food, brilliant breakfast.
Our bedroom was situated above the kitchen and in the morning it was noisy. It didn't particularly bother us but other people could find this an annoyance especially at six in the morning
The room, bar and restaurant were very clean and most staff very friendly and apologetic for delay in food. Breakfast was excellent with a very pleasent waitress and no significant wait. Rooms were large and clean.
There was a long delay for food (evening meal) and a delay on drinks from the bar so much so the drink I ordered before my food didn't arrive until after I had finished my meal!! And the bar tender didn't apologise for the delay - in fact he didn't say a word!!
good size comfortable room. staff were very helpful and the whole place had a friendly relaxed atmosphere
The breakfast was average and although the room was very nice there was mildew on shower and curtains
Restaurant and bar ambience etc. & good meal choices. Open fire and communal newspapers.
Room TV, far too small. Room milk supply, good idea but not well executed. Breakfast service poor and some items cremated by the time they arrived.
We thought the hotel on the whole was excellent with lots of lovely touches, milk in flasks, ear plugs, breakfast for early walkers. Really polite and helpful staff.
We were in room 9 and had to be up early for the 3 Peaks Challenge and found that the room was very noisy as people were coming upstairs and through the door to their rooms. However, this was our only gripe and the manager tried to move us but people in other rooms had specified those in particular!
Restaurant and bar Facilities for dogs Helpful staff Breakfast Central location in the town
Shower was a bit inconsistent in temperature. No parking at the hotel but public facilities very nearby
Stayed in room 3 which must be above the hotels laundry room. Hoping for a good nights sleep as we were having a late night, but were woken at 6.30am by banging in laundry below. When we left we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay which was disappointing. I would like a partial refund. I think they are short staffed there too.
It has a very handy location in the centre of Settle.
Our bathroom (Room 10) was full of mould and had not been cleaned for ages. When we complained, we were moved to a bigger room (which was very kind of them) but this too had mouldy windowsills in the bathroom, together with a shower hose full of mould. Just clean it properly!
The room was spacious, the bed extremely comfortable, the bathroom home-from-home.
Beer kegs being moved around outside early next morning, had to close bedroom window.
The staff were fantastic, very attentive and very helpful. The food was surprisingly good, fresh, locally sourced, well prepared and presented. The bed was very comfortable and lovely facilities in the room,
The walls were quite thin so we were disturbed by a group of very excited walkers in the next room. The shower was a bit pathetic but the water hot.
Room4 was noisy in the evening and early morning.
