log fires friendly staff and atmosphere good food and service a nice mixture of hotel and country pub, thwaites have a good business model here good luck with it
the onsuite bathroom was a bit small
The overall decor and the friendliness of the staff are excellent.Rooms are comfortable and spacious and very clean.Open fires downstairs add to the ambiance. Breakfast was good.
Generally the food needs to improve to match the higher standards of the rest of the hotel.
Really Helpful staff, comfortable and large room, great atmosphere. Location is excellent, right in the heart of Settle. Highly recommended
The hotel is great, staff, food and location are really good. The place has a lovely feel to it.
Second time we have stayed and both times there have been problems with hot water. Both times told it was the boiler and someone was going to fix it. Our visits were 12 months apart. One member of staff for breakfast who was taking orders and checking folk out meant service was slow.
Comfortable and easy atmosphere, appropriate to season, log fires great, service prompt and friendly, all staff hard working and eager to please, nothing too much trouble to please party
Fabric and standard of rooms was below expected for price paid, all areas cold an draughty especially main dining area downstairs which spoiled our main stay event, several couples staying over for large birthday party meal, also , back of hotel rooms 3&4 in particular subjected to chemical? damp? Odours which also spoiled overall satisfaction of stay. All rooms appeared tired and draughty but beds were comfortable
quite a lot
Our bed was very comfortable. It was lovely sitting by the log fire and the meal in the evening was very good.
We were very disappointed with our room. It had an awful smell which we couldn't make our mind up what it was at first we thought the room smelt damp because it was cold when we went in. We turned the heating up and hoped this would help. When we went to bed the smell was still there. Both my husband and myself had a restless nights sleep due to the smell. When we checked out we were asked if everything was ok I explained the above all I was told was the roof outside our room had been repaired and solvents had been used so thatight be the smell. No one seemed to be interested in our complaint and told us to email Thwaites with our complaint not a word of apology was given. Surely this room shouldn't have been let out due to the risk to ones health. I intend to contact Thwaites for an explanation
The room itself was lovely and clean and the breakfast was fantastic with a lot of choice.
We stayed in Room 15, the noise of the bathroom vent was ridiculously loud. Even neighbouring room vents could be heard in our room and in fact sounded louder than our own! Not ideal During the night, especially with small children. Our room was over the yard and after pub closing it was very noisy even at 1am and again at 6am! I understand and accept this staying above a pub, however I don't appreciate paying £100 for the noisiest nights (lack of) sleep I've ever had! Shame as we've stayed in other rooms before and had no complaints at all! It's also a shame there is no wifi in the rooms considering the poor 3G coverage in the area.
Love the character of the building, great pub and fabulously fresh cooked breakfast !
The rooms could be tidied up a bit. Cobwebs on the ceiling above the bed and very tired shower cubicles need updating.
The location of the hotel. It had a great fire which was lovely on a very cold day. The room was very clean, had a comfortable bed and was of a good size. No problem storing all our luggage. Lovely breaakfast. A good selection and freshly cooked.
We particularly liked the breakfast and the service was first class. The bar was also excellent with first class staff. There was a good selection of Cask Ales which were expertly served. Despite the problems identified opposite I'd stay again but would need confirmation that the bathroom has been modified.
We stayed in room 8. We were not impressed with the bathroom which was very, very small. It was so cramped it was impossible for a man to enter the shower. And the toilet could only be used sideways! This needs the shower fitting with a curtain. I was somewhat annoyed to have to go down to the bar to use the toilet and even more so being unable to have a shower. It's a real shame because the staff worked so very hard.
Thankyou to the staff at The Lion for making our stay so pleasureable. Nice food. Great atmosphere and a super roaring fire. What more could you want.
Excellent breakfast and comfortable clean bedroom with all the facilities you require for tea, coffee etc.
Shower wouldn t work brilliantly when other rooms using showers.
Settle is a lovely village and the Lion is a beautiful old inn, full of character. You are welcomed by two roaring fires, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was wonderful and so was dinner - lovely fresh home-cooked food. The room was a good size and the bathroom was very spacious. We really enjoyed our stay.
The only problem for me was I'm allergic to doghair and it's a dog friendly hotel.
Fab roaring log fire gave place great welcoming feel. Staff lovely as was food.
Grubby net curtains in bedrooms.
The staff were all helpful and pleasant. The bar area provided excellent quality and value food, and there was live folk music in the adjoining room. Both areas having a log fire. The bedrooms were clean, and comfortable. The breakfast choice was excellent and plentiful. overall a great value hotel
The d Food was excellent
No parking, which was not. Ace clear at the point of booking. Facilities dated. Cleanliness of room - fair. Lots of dust webs on the ceiling!
We hadn't stayed in Settle before but were meeting friends who'd we'd met at college 30 years ago and this was mid way for most people. The photos on the website were a little misleading, as our bedroom was rather shabbier than the photos would have you believe. However, everything was clean and we had lots of space. It looks like there are some renovations goins on as part of the downstairs area is very modern and the other quite dated. The young duty manager who looked after us was a great asset to the pub/hotel - he seemed to be the only person there who wanted to ensure everyone was looked after. There was an occasion when we were waiting to have our room allocated that not only was he looking after the poeple in front of us, he was trying to ensure that the people at the bar were being served as well as organising the answering of a telephone, despite a young girl standing next to it !!! Am in the service industry myself and would offer this young man a job any day of the week, if we were based in Settle. The breakfast range was good especially for someone who is really fussy - though the toaster was a challenge for a number of guests that morning. Had it not have been for him, we would have rate this hotel much lower.
Bedroom a little shabby. Walking into the hotel directly into the bar area, a little intimidating especially two ladies together. Very noisy loo / water tank. Towels a little thin and worn, but plenty of them. We paid £95 for a twin room which we thought was a little over-priced considering the room we were in though at the time of booking, I found that accommodation was limited in Settle so possibly puts the price up. Didn't realise that there was no parking and so had to use pay & display facilities.
very nice bedroom room all bathroom.
Location, log fire, ambience of the bar areas). Great choice of beer and food. Plenty of ready heat in the central heating and hot water in the bathroom. Flask of fresh milk is a nice touch for the room.
lack of bedside table one side of double bed - that's all!
Setting, town lovely and good base for some great walks. Allowed our dog to stay with us in room. Rooms good and clean Restuarant was lovely with good food and a good bustling atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Good value!
Our room was street facing and we had a fair bit of road noise early morning. Also a fair bit of clanking as radiators warmed up. Shower a bit weak.
Staff were really helpful and friendly. Food was lovely, really welcoming and relaxing atmosphere - lovely log fire. Would definitely visit again with my family!
The staff were very friendly
There was only 1 key for our room and it was never at reception when we returned from a day out and the staff had to go and find it. No milk was left in our room for the tea & coffee, despite requesting this was done. Slow service at breakfast, it took over an hour on the first morning, although the service improved. There were not enough staff (2) to cover the Reception, Bar, Telephone & Dinning Room
Very noisy, paper thin walls. No curtain in the bathroom!
WE LIKED THE FIRE AND AMBIENCE ON ARRIVAL
UNDERSTAFFED, FIRST NIGHT DUE TO LACK OF STAFF EVENING MEAL COLD, SECOND NIGHT STAFF OCCUPIED WITH A FUNCTION AND ALL TABLES RESERVED.
