Location Friendliness of staff Breakfast excellent Bed very comfy Good selection beers/ wines Nice room
Generator outide our room...which was very noisy during the night and morning, making sleeping difficult.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Overall, good value.
It retained its character in spite of modernisation. It didn't feel like part of a chain. Some lovely paintings.
Beautifully furnished and large rooms, friendly staff, excellent food!
Nice big family room, modern bathroom. Food excellent, nice courtyard to sit out in
Good food. Friendly and helpful staff. Being able to book 4 rooms for a family get-together.
Busy but not too busy. Nice feel about the place. Comfortable and cosy with a warm friendly welcome.
There was nothing not to like
Good quality/price ratio Very friendly staff Main bed is very comfortable Pub radiates a local charm
Bathroom fan is very loud No air-conditioning Restaurant food is standard pub quality
This hotel is a great base for a touring holiday with very friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. The food was good and the general decor uniquely interesting and well maintained.
The location, the ambiance of the place, the staff and the menu.
No parking, but cheap overnight parking a short walk away.
The bed was very comfortable and the food was excellent. The hotel has a very nice appearance and the staff were helpful.
We really liked the hotel, rooms are a bit dated but beds are so comfortable. Location is great, right in the heart of settle and a few minutes walk to the station if you are planning the 'Settle-Carlisle' trip.
I always seem to have a gripe about hotel food. As a vegetarian, the choice of evening meals is awful. Still, I know for most part people will say 'OK, but that's your choice (or problem!) BUT there are some great Italian and Indian restaurants right around the corner and good pub food at the Bull (again, just around the corner) Other complaints? Well despite having good weather, the beer garden was closed off (due to the fact it had been dug up!) which was not great news for a smoker. (A vegetarian smoker?? Afraid so, but then again, I suppose that's my problem too!) But for everyone else... Enjoy your stay!
The homely "coaching inn" feel of The Lion. Friendly and helpful staff. Good food and a lively feel to the restaurant.
My room on the street side of the hotel turned out to be very noisy - as I had to have the window wide open at night due to the hot weather - lucky that I had ear plugs. No proper reception to the hotel - it was just a part of the restaurant.
The rooms are very comfortable and furnished to a good standard. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fabulous.Lots of choice...I enjoyed the best egg benedict I'd ever eaten!!
We did experience a little noise from the bar area downstairs. But it didn't go on late so it didn't prevent us from having a good nights sleep.
The rooms were fine, bed comfortable, air con outside turned off before we went to sleep so did not keep us awake. Good selection of drinks in the room, but no individual milk sachets. Fresh milk available at the bar. We ate in the restaurant. Enjoyed the food. No gluten free batter for my fish but they grilled it and it was excellent. Gluten free bread the next day for toast.
The bathroom did not lock and the T V sound did not work initially but was quickly fixed. No car park. This needs to be mentioned prominently. No lift. My husband is disabled so both these matters were a problem for us, although the receptionist offered to carry the luggage up.
Size of room (very big) Room facilities including settee Breakfast
Staff, food, room, super-clean!
The day the keggers arrive. Craziest wake-up call ever!
Friendly and helpful staff. Good food.
Lack of bannister on left of upper half of stairs. Noise of traffic.
The ambience was great - open fires and jazz on a Tuesday :) liked the touch of getting fresh milk for tea in your room and the beds were so comfy. The food was great too - home cooked and served quick. They also did out breakfast early for us as we were going out for the day. Couldn't have asked for more, we will definitely return
Food very good Decor in bar and eating area very good Staff very helpful
Noise from kitchen fan
The bed ,linen, tea tray , bathroom contents (towels etc) super. Staff were EXCEPTIONALLY helpful, welcoming and attentive. Food super ( games available for kids) They sorted out some issues we mentioned pleasantly & swiftly.
A little disappointed in the 3 rooms for the cost . One -rather small ( fine otherwise). Two -family room ,window over the noisy courtyard (a child in bed & up later too). Three -family room small for 2 children " adults. Bar noisy but earplugs worked well !!!!
Busy pub/hotel but friendly and efficient staff, good food and pleasant atmosphere.
Car Parking in nearby square a bit "hit & miss".
The food in the Lion was very good value for money and as we had eaten there before thought we would book it for our holiday. Settle as a location is very good and the little town is very nice
Wher to start Our room no.10 was very small and at night was very stuffy and as it was close to the kitchen fans at the back of the hotel was very noisey the walls are paper thin no wonder ear plugs are provided by the hotel. Staff lack hospitality communication skills as at no time did any member of staff even try to strike up a conversation with us even on our last morning when I was paying my bill NO ONE even said thank you for your custom was your stay with us enjoyable (even though 3 members of staff were behind the counter at the time) which in my opinion is common curtisy so basic training in my opinion is lacking and must be put down to staff training at The LIon as a few miles up the road in another hotel the staff were very courtious indeed so needless to say I hope never to have the misfortune to stay in The Lion again
Food, Room Atmosphere good. Staff were great.
Polite staff, pleasant room (15) , location - would return.
Stay too short, just didn't have time for a longer stay.
