The breakfast was excellent! plenty of choice and hot toast made to order. Staff were attentive and did not have to wait for service. Bar area was very relaxing and lovely views! Room was comfortable but would like a balcony next time! Very quiet at night so managed to sleep very well. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would deffinately return for another break.

It was only a short 2night stay but the facilities were excellent. Having travelled by train it was an excellent choice location wise. The room allocated to us was clean but 'tired' but the view was brilliant. I will certainly return. Thank you all for your hospitality.

the breakfast was always plentiful and staff in restaurant were very attentive.I liked the replenishment of toiletries and tea/coffee every day in our room. The decor in the foyer/entrance and bar and the facilities were very nice and made the hotel more authentic. There was also a turn back service every night which we thought was a nice touch but we didn't use this. We were glad we chose The Grand after walking into the very busy Marina at night to find it very noisy boisterous and full of young drinkers on hen and stag do's!! All in all we had a very nice relaxing 4 nights here. The noise from the train station as we were at the back of the hotel and as it was such lovely weather we needed to keep the windows open.

stopped at the holel just for one night with my friend from India who had never been to an english seaside resort or hotel . he is vegitarian and the breakfast was catered for full english and vegitairian buffet style and plenty to choose from we found the staff very friendly and nothing was to much trouble . The hotel was tradionaly english and well presented situated right on the seafront and about a 20 min walk into the town . the room itself was clean with lovely comfy beds . Will be looking forward to saying there again for a little longer

Its location The bathroom!!! Specifically on 2 issues: 1) It was in dire need of an major modernisation (no miser tap on the hand washbasin). 2) The shower was not only extremely difficult to turn on & off, it also would not maintain a constant heat.

The situation is perfect. A lovely walk along the front to Torquay (with an all important loo halfway along). Frequent buses outside the hotel into Torquay. Staff always pleasant and helpful. This was our sixth or seventh stay. Even though our room did not have a view, it was large and comfortable. We were b&b and asked if the hotel would do a deal over dinner for a couple of nights. They were quite intransigent that it was £30 for 3 courses. We have always had dinner at some point in the past and feel that perhaps The Grand may lose out in not offering a deal to residents over dinner on a couple of occasions. It is always lovely to see Ove the waiter and this time we were unable to say hello to him. We were certainly not inconvenienced by not being able to dine in the hotel because we dined in the bar on a couple of occasions and at a lovely little restaurant we discovered in tq.

The Grand Hotel was elevated with excellent views across Tor Bay especially at night with all the lights. Yet it was within easy walking distance to the town centre and shopping. The Hotel was very welcoming and relaxing, very clean and the staff were very pleasant - nothing was to much trouble whatever you asked of them. Unfortunatley we had to cut our holiday short owing to a family bereavement and the staff couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. The food in the Compass Bar was not upto standard. The menu was of limited choice and everything with chips. Maybe if the menu was changed every two or three nights it might make a difference.

The hotel needs updating in regard to furniture and carpets. It looks dated and some of the upholstery is dirty and stained for a 4 star hotel. The tv in the bedroom was not opposite the bed but on a side wall which made uncomfortable viewing. This hotel did not look 4 star and the parking facilities are also poor.

The room was very disappointing, we had a brick wall as a view, also we could not shut the window which was next to the outside air conditioning unit. We did asked to be moved but there were no other rooms available.

The friendliness of staff, nothing was too much trouble and the rooms were clean and comfortable with great views of the sea. The restuarant, bar and terrace all looked out over the sea. The guests varied from couples of all ages to families and single people. Couldn't fault anything. You are just a 5/10 minute flat walk from the shops and pubs/restuarants so away from any noise but a short walk or a £3.70 taxi journey!
