The staff, especially the manager Richard ? He was entertaining. He was also very apologetic for the pool being out of use for refurbishment. The view from the hotel room was excellent. The "turn down" service is excellent Poor sound proofing. Creaky floor boards from room above our room, 207. Sounded like a herd of elephants! |

Great location and the grandeus of a fine old hotel. The room / bathroom was a bit tired, and the balconies have been blighted by barriers demanded by over-ambitious health and safety officers. |

The hotel was located in a great position right by the station and with views out over the sea. The hotel is old and tired, the decor in the rooms is somewhat dated and the carpets have seen better days. The leisure facilities that were advertised were not open and there was no mention of this closure when I booked the room three days before travel. |

Great staff, great views & great breakfast. Wonderful victorian ambiance. Wifi only available when sitting right at reception. Believe this was an ongoing problem so check first if you need internet. Fitness/gym was closed for refurbishment but hotel did offer alternative and nearby leisure centre. We had 4 different rooms during 2009 and all need refurbishment and modernizing but still comforable and great views. |

Great location with sea views and right next to Torquay railway station. Easy, secure parking, free of charge. Standard of rooms (for same charge) varies enormously. Some rooms are very dated with poor bathroom facilities. Updated rooms are much higher standard. However, I have stayed in four different rooms at The Grand Hotel and the mattresses in all the rooms are old, saggy, unsupportive and very uncomfortable...for this reason I am unlikely to stay at this hotel again. |

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choice and quality of food was outstanding. The decor was very good everywhere. The wee extras that always make the real difference between memorable and not, eg the turn down service, the toilet paper and biscuits in the room, were of a high quality. The location was super and it was nice to have the entertainment in the evening. We would definately stay there again. The evening meals were decently priced for the standard of hotel, but why charge so much extra for the potatoes and veg? It was a pity that the pool and spa facitlites were closed for maintenance during our stay, but that did not impact on our overall enjoyment of the weekend. |

The room was nice and comfortable and the surroundings were lovely. We chose The Grand Hotel looking forward to a quiet, relaxing stay but were more than disappointed with the number of noisy children who were part of a wedding reception, who were continually running between the tables shouting and screaming while we were having our evening meal. The parents of the children were not interested in controlling them, and from a health and safety point they could have caused an accident which very nearly happened on a number of occasions. |

Lovely hotel with good package deal for two nights. Great location and has an exclusive air which is wonderful Mainly the food on offer in the bar area was too limited and too many sandwich-style dishes. Needs more variety. |

We have stayed at a Richardson hotel before and found the experience to be wonderful. The Grand in Torquay is no difference, from the quality of room to the standard of cuisine you could not complain. What really makes the stay is the staff they are truly superb, nothing |

The staff was excellent and we were very comfortable in our lovely room with a seaview. The hot water in the shower was intermittent. We were slightly misquoted on price. |

The service provided was excellent. Rooms were comfortable and homely. Hotel food prices were dear as were reservation costs if made directly through the hotel. |

Staff were very helpful and friendly. When booking ask to stay in a refurbished room as I heard a few negative comments about the older style rooms. |

The breakfast is excellent, with a good range of hot and cold food. Generally the decor is pleasant, though the carpet on the stairs is now getting a little threadbare, and it has the ambiance of a 4* hotel, with a pleasant, impersonal feel, though really it is not worthy of more than a 3* rating. The room seemed quite well appointed, but see remarks below. The turndown service is a very nice touch. We stayed here twice before over last couple of years; we had rooms with side sea views before but this time we were on the 'inside' of the hotel, with a view of a wall + roof covered in bird faeces (+ a pair of pants?), through a tiny window which was filthy! The window in the bathroom had a mirror across it, reducing light, and an electric towel rail we could not turn off, which made the room uncomfortably hot so we had to sleep with a fan on all night. The shower was small with nowhere inside to put the soap/ shampoo, and round the frame was filthy; I thought it was rust, until my wife demonstrated with a rub of a damp towel that it would come off. One lift didn't work throughout stay and carparking is not good for a 4* hotel. |

Everything really, especially the sea view from the conservatory bar. Food was excellent and more than lived up to expectations. The grandure of the reception area and resturants lived up to the name of the Grand Hotel. The warm welcome of the complimentary wine and chocolate covered strawberries in the bedroom were unexpected but very appreciacted. The bedrooms could do with updating but were satisfactory and comfortable. |

Location - but there are other hotels in equally good locations in Torquay. First impression was good. Room was too hot as rest of hotel. Breakfast was good value as it was included with room but separate charge was overpriced. Inadquate parking facilities. Lot of traffic noise on station side of hotel. Not a 4 star. |

The staff were helpful even when under presure. The hotel is very well located and convenient Lack of parking, the overheating of the rooms, including public ones, the long wait for breakfast which meant we didn't get it one morning |
