Score from 478 reviews Very good
The staff were very polite, attentive and helpful, a credit to the standard Mr Richardson has obviously set. The food at breakfast was good, varied and plentiful. Very nice atmosphere.
As stated before the rooms are very tired, and in need of serious updating. Exterior in need of a repaint. As an asthmatic who is allergic to dogs, I take exception to the fact that they are allowed in the hotel, and in the rooms in particular. This did add disappointment to the overall experience.
Everything but bed
Bed had dips
The room and view. The general ambiance of the Hotel
Very drafty Reception area, waiting for a taxi the door opening all the time was not nice.
Good friendly service nice atmosphere
Bar prices to exspensive
Gave long weekend here as present to parents in their 80s. They were warm and comfortable. Meals delicious and staff friendly. Room good size. Parents loved it.
Drinks and bar food a little on pricey side for pensioners.
Sunday morning breakfast queues and having to clear a table followed by 30 mins to get a coffee and 50 to get our food!
Not enough staff or tables for breakfast
The hotel was perfect; the staff were lovely, the hotel was gorgeous, breakfast was lovely
Nothing; it was perfect
Extremely friendly and helpful staff on reception and in the dining room. Lots of choice available for the breakfast buffet. Attractive traditional style building in a very convenient location near the station. Good facilities and near to parks and harbour.
Slightly "tired" decoration in room but clean and comfortable.
parking arrangements; good lifts; breakfast good; room service good
dinner poor; public rooms rather very dark; bedroom shower could have worked better - 7 out of 10 points
Every thing couldn't fault it in anyway friendly well polite and wllingness to help you
Nothing loved all of it
Pretty much everything.
Crème brûlée was more like angel delight.
Friendliness of staff, Bar. Getting a free upgrade was a really nice surprise. The internal of the building came as a complete change to the external look
The external décor really needs a big overhaul
Seaside views on third floor and nice breakfast and location.
Floorboards are loose in room, and traffic noise from single glazing windows.
staff and breakfasts
early morning noise outside window
Staff couldn't of been more helpful to me.
Bathroom needed decorating.
Great entrance and bar. Christmas decorations were fabulous.
Shaving point in bathroom was not working
Price for the standard
No bread rolls at Breakfast
Best nights sleep.
The Grand Hotel has an air of classic elegance and class about it. Warm, inviting and a superb day lounge area overlooking the Bay. Previous stays have always been very much enjoyed.
This time round I had an internal standard room almost directly over the kitchen. The noise from the kitchen area from extractor fans and kitchen activity generally was very disruptive and required me to keep the window firmly closed all the time. In the morning a large Jazz party had bumped other guests into an inferior ante room for breakfast. Not a good move. All in all not your best effort this time. It would put me off coming back.
Very friendly staff. Good meals. I live in NZ but grew up at newton Abbot so was back to see the familiar places. The Grand was a convenient spot with buses outside.
Too hot, probably due to the late warm weather and the heating on.
The staff through out the hotel was superb.which really is so very important. the location is great. Anne on the health club was very helpful and kind. And would like to mention E-by who was always there to welcome you to the bar.
The bedroom we had was very out dated a bit disappointing . I also can't understand for a nice hotel who makes sure you are so looked after. That breakfast ( cold plates ) it just makes your food go cold.
Great location near station and seafront. Elegant surroundings. Modern leisure facilities. Great value.
