Seaside views on third floor and nice breakfast and location.
Floorboards are loose in room, and traffic noise from single glazing windows.
staff and breakfasts
early morning noise outside window
Staff couldn't of been more helpful to me.
Bathroom needed decorating.
Great entrance and bar. Christmas decorations were fabulous.
Shaving point in bathroom was not working
Price for the standard
No bread rolls at Breakfast
Best nights sleep.
The Grand Hotel has an air of classic elegance and class about it. Warm, inviting and a superb day lounge area overlooking the Bay. Previous stays have always been very much enjoyed.
This time round I had an internal standard room almost directly over the kitchen. The noise from the kitchen area from extractor fans and kitchen activity generally was very disruptive and required me to keep the window firmly closed all the time. In the morning a large Jazz party had bumped other guests into an inferior ante room for breakfast. Not a good move. All in all not your best effort this time. It would put me off coming back.
Very friendly staff. Good meals. I live in NZ but grew up at newton Abbot so was back to see the familiar places. The Grand was a convenient spot with buses outside.
Too hot, probably due to the late warm weather and the heating on.
The staff through out the hotel was superb.which really is so very important. the location is great. Anne on the health club was very helpful and kind. And would like to mention E-by who was always there to welcome you to the bar.
The bedroom we had was very out dated a bit disappointing . I also can't understand for a nice hotel who makes sure you are so looked after. That breakfast ( cold plates ) it just makes your food go cold.
Great location near station and seafront. Elegant surroundings. Modern leisure facilities. Great value.
The friendly staff.
I had paid foe executive room and was given a standard room. When I was leaving I asked what type of room I has been given I was told standard, I showed them my confirmation that stated executive room, they just I don't know how that happened. The changing rooms in the pool area were not clean the floors needed deck scrubbing. Their food was over priced.
Location is very convenient as is parking
Breakfast - food was not warm enough. Range very limited. Room was at back of hotel and had a view of a flooded flat roof, a pipe and a wall. Really awful. Staff aren't friendly at all - they use the word upgrade when it doesn't apply - they don't seem to worry or care
Location and facilities.
First impression was poor i.e. unfriendly greeting on arrival, dealings with other reception staff were good however. Restaurant food was variable, good on day 1 poor on day 2.
Great location & view Good Service Excellent Breakfast Great Value
view ,facilities,breakfast choice
The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious and very clean and the bathroom was large and well lit. Views were spectacular. The hotel has old fashioned grandeur. Overall standard excellent and good value for money.
Some of the carpets in the corridor looked worn and could do with replacing.
Location staff breakfast and waiting staff parking
A cold night and two radiators in room one not very good and the other one not working at all. Contacted reception and were given a heater within a few minutes situation resolved quickly.
Very noisy with people walking around upstairs, next door kept my boyfriend and I awake
beautiful decor, excellent food
The car parking in the hotel garage and the bedrooms were too hot.
Great location amazing communal areas
Just a bit tired in places carpets etc everything a bit "knocked about" very comfy bed and very clean, friendly person on reception but not great value for £69
We had been before on a cheap deal, which the room reflected. This time we had booked a double room with sea view and were given a triple room. This again was on a good deal and getting the larger room was a nice surprise and helped us enjoy our relaxing weekend, as did the pool and sauna.
If I'm being a bit picky there was a damp musty smell in the corridor on level 4 but it didn't come into the room. The breakfast buffet layout could have been better although the food was ok.
All the staff where very helpful and friendly. It has the right amount of old charm and new updates to the room and hotel interior.
Need more good close car parking and the outside of the hotel needs cleaning and paint. Better windows would help.
Just got back from fab weekend, lovely staff, great breakfast couldn't fault it, superb location too
Comfortable suite. Huge bed. Nice view over the bay.
Decor is a bit dingy and well past its sell-by date - it needs refreshing or refurbing. Can only partially open the windows - single glazed sash type and they rattle when the wind blows. Service in the bar was excruciatingly slow each time we were there - for example 10 mins before waitress arrived and then a further 30-min wait for a tea.
