Score from 560 reviews Very good
helpful at reception when requesting a change of room. Most of the public rooms are nicely decorated.
External appearance needs some serious improvement to bring it up to a decent standard. Breakfast first morning was poor with solid fried eggs and part cooked bacon.
Outdated and tired Decor slow uninterested staff food terrible and expensive unfriendly expensive old dated rooms. Hotel needs complete renovation.
food and service
single room was very cramped
Upgrade to suite was great.
Decor could do with a freshen up soon
Staff were really fantastic.
Why do people always need to whinge about something. Nothing.
Good location. Nice clean hotel and a good breakfast.
Rooms much too hot at night. No air con so it was difficult to sleep.
Breakfast always good.
Parking is very limited and almost impossible when a function is being held. Tired looking Hotel away from reception and in need of some serious money being spent on internal and external parts of the hotel.
the view from the hotel breakfast
rooms way to hot paint or wall paper needed in room
A pleasant, old, hotel with friendly staff. Nice room but like so many Torquay hotels, a little tired.
Although the staff were very pleasant, service was poor. I ordered two drinks at the bar, had to pass on a reminder to passing staff and eventually three drinks arrived. The food was good in their main dining room, my choice of wine had run out but in fairness given a more expensive bottle at equal price. Unfortunately a long wait for the main course, I had to enquire into its whereabouts and politely ask if the chef had gone to sleep.
The position is excellent on every level. Brilliant sea views and walks to the harbour shops or restaurants. Friendly atmosphere and the spa , swimming pool etc adds an extra dimension to your stay. Breakfasts very good
The service was appalling on both the main restaurant (dinner) and the bar. I do not know how drinks could take so long to be served and the same for the restaurant. Expensive meal and not up to standard 4 of us had the crispy belly pork which took ages and was very soggy when we commented and referred to the menu the waiter said ah well it is the chef. No offer to make it right or suggest something else. The steak although good was very expensive and was sent back as was very overcooked especially as it was ordered rare. The rooms were very small and extremely hot wish the beds could be bigger! Several discrepancies within our party re bills and charging as many mistakes made.
Breakfast was excellent
Excellent hotel, the interior are very well chosen and looked after. The service is of exceptional good standard, the staff are very friendly, and very helpful. Food was excellent (Dinner and Breakfast). Would defiantly visit again.
We were upgraded on arrival to a sea view room on the 4th floor which was a very good size for us. Great breakfast each morning and free parking outside the hotel.
It was very warm in the room at night but it was very noisy with the window open so thus afgected the first nights sleep
First time at the Grand and was impressed All staff were very polite and helpful.Anthony at reception went out of his way to help The most fantastic breakfast.
Extremely dim lighting in the lounge
Reviewed on behalf of my parents. They had a lovely stay despite the pouring rain. Hotel staff great and room made for a very comfortable stay, nothing to fault.
Nice hotel to relax in, we used the spa for massages and having the indoor pool was a bonus.
Slightly away from the main area of town.
Majority of the staff were rude, didn't smile or speak to us. On checking in we were not asked if we wanted to add an evening meal to our booking, or advised where we might be able to get a meal. We managed to find out there was a bistro in the bar area and did have an evening meal, even though we had an hour or more wait between each course. We were also not advised that there was a large restaurant for breakfast and again ended up in the bistro area. As I am diabetic I do not consider a croissant no bigger than my thumb to be an adequate breakfast and also did not equate to the price that we were charged either. However if we had been advised that there was also a restaurant with a buffet breakfast, I could have had a suitable meal for my needs instead of spending the whole day feeling incredibly ill.
staff being trained while customers orders were left to get cold. Having to asked for napkins.
The breakfast.and comfort
The bar and lounge areas are very pleasant with good service. The leisure suite and pool is nice.
I upgraded to an Executive room however it was very small for a double and disappointing given the high cost.
Nice breakfast. Pleasant staff.
Room tiny and view of fire escape. Carpet could do with a clean. Dead fly on floor still there after we asked for room to be serviced.
everything - even got parked in the garage.
Public areas very high quality, staff really friendly. Views from public area really good.
Car alarm at the train station went on for about an hour quite early in the morning. Bed wasn't very comfy. Bar really expensive.
Traditional hotel with good facilities.
I woke up one morning to find the bathroom ceiling was leaking water from the room above.
friendly and helpful staff
there was a lack of hot water for bath or shower.
