With a superb cliff-top location and stunning sea views, this family-run hotel has peaceful gardens, free Wi-Fi, an indoor pool, an outdoor heated pool with terrace and a good breakfast.
Score from 141 reviews Very good
Location was ok but not quite by the sea unlike the name suggests.
Room was tiny, cold and the bathroom was mouldy. Central heating was not working during the night. I'd rather give this place 2-3 stars instead of 4.
Excellent staff and good ambience. Lovely to have tea and cake to welcome us in the lounge. Enjoyed the views from our bedroom.
Shower worked well however the bathroom was outdated and there were plumbing issues.
Location excellent. Very quiet but just off High Street and close to old Shanklin. Comfortable. Good breakfast, cooked breakfast freshly made to order. Fresh rolls and croissants. Tea and coffee on tap all day, along with biscuits, fruit, chocolate cake. Staff friendly and helpful.
Only issue might be parking if it were busy. Only spaces for about 6-8 cars on site.
Path out back down to the park and onwards to the beach. Lounge with oak panelling, log fire and lots of character. Breakfast. Parking.
Beautiful views with a great sunrise. A nice cooked English breakfast. Would stay there again.
The rooms could do with an upgrade but we were informed that this was being done this winter.
The bar, lounge, dining room were all excelent our room was all we could have hoped for and the weather was like a late summers day. The attractive gardens lead to the cliff top and the lift to the esplanade, we had two superb meals at restaurants just a short walk from the Grange and with a first class breakfast a lunchtime snack kept us going for the day Not good for people with dissabilities but would thoroughly re commend.
People were very nice and helpful. Position of the Grange was very convenient and quiet, being situated just far enough away from the main drag to get a good nights sleep. Beautiful garden.
The whole place badly needed a giant injection of enthusiasm and a fair amount of cash to bring it up to date. Cleanliness and attention to basic detail was not apparent in the room service. This place could be and deserves to be so much better
The manageress was amazing, very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Breakfast was excellent. Lovely constant supply of hot drinks and biscuits all day/ night long.
Mould on tiles in shower, bad smell in bathroom which lingered throughout stay, urine splashes on toilet, on arrival, despite having a sanitised band on it.
Polite staff. plenty of coffee/teas available in the lounge area at no extra charge. great choice of food for breakfast. Honesty bar but did not use. Great location.
Bed a little uncomfortable. There was tea making facilities in room but no fresh /bottled water.
Been before and the place is as good this time as last time. The homemade chocolate cake should carry a health warning though...it's delicious!!
cozy comfortable hotel. Staff were excellent. Chocolate brownies were very nice and available all day as like tea and coffee. Good all round hotel. Breakfast freshly cooked, so always hot and fresh. Patio a real sun trap and very quiet. This was a second visit to the grange and would return if and when I return to the IOW
Location great for whole Island and Shanklin alike. Great restaurants within short walking distance. Right next to Old village and Chine. If you needed bus, right there as well. I had no problem parking at the Grange...always had a spot. As far as Grange, class facility, my room had a great view of ocean, bed a king with comfortable mattress and nice bed linens...(pillows were a little flat)...breakfast was fabulous and there was always a homemade sweet treat on the table when pass by to go to room. Bathroom was clean and modern...shower was good size for me and water pressure good. Grounds nice. Staff were helpful and pleasant. I would recommend this place for sure for staying on the Isle...centrally located to all of island by car and Shanklin as well. Coffee tasted good too. They have an honesty bar for those moments you don't want to walk anywhere
The only thing that was an issue was no lift to third floor for suitcases...I did not mind the climb daily...but they did have someone to carry them for me. Otherwise nothing to complain about...hairdryer didn't work, but forgot to tell them.
Relaxed atmosphere. Attentive staff. Good food. Good outside space. Peacefull but in the centre of busy Shanklin.
Bathroom could be updated

Just to make sure that this is without prejudice.... I do build high end hotels around the world.
the care of the staffs, the location and the Georgian house, it is a fabulous place to stay with family. I loved the chocolate snack that they gave in the afternoon and the tea and coffees all day in the breakfast area. Bev is so lovely and made our breakfast taste even nicer. So are all of the staff.
The only thing is the toilet which for my standards is not very clean due the mould that it accumulates because of the weather and the ventilation of the toilet. But I have german standards of cleaning which are super high so don't take this too seriously.
Hotel only had 17 rooms so not too big and impersonal. Plenty of tea and coffee on tap and well stocked bar. Manager Jenni was really friendly and helpful
Garden and quiet location
Cooking on first morning was poor but surprisingly good on second morning
Location Breakfast Trust bar Free tea /coffee making Comfy bed Clean room
Shower area was dated and not very clean
Location. Reception staff friendly and helpful.
Specific niggles: TV was an old style ( ie not flat screen). The picture was very poor. The electric shower seemed to do hot or hotter. Ended up showering on coldest setting. Wifi only available in lounge. Car park can only fit around 7-8 cars. Even then there was some manoeuvring in the morning to let cars out. If the hotel had full occupancy, and all visitors had cars, there would be a problem. Overall impression was that the hotel was looking a bit 'tired' and needed a makeover.
The pillows were to soft
Out of four 4 star hotels we stayed on The island grange was the best in all respect.
The staff The room The view The secluded street The free car park The lovely gardens Proximity to restaurants and beaches The ambience Good breakfast, and not too early
Slightly tatty bathroom fittings and ageing TVs. But not so it spoiled anything. I'd go back there in heartbeat.
Whilst pushing my 11 month daughter in her buggy into the hotel car park, the hotels dog shot over and nicked a cake from under the buggy, then once the receptionist failed to catch him, he returned and came up behind me biting me on the hand (trying to get the bag I was holding)drawing blood! the owners took over 3 hrs and after the police had visited them to come and see if I was ok and said "they forgot to feed him and that's why he went for us"I am only grateful my 11mth old daughter was not eating anything in her buggy at the time.
food, friendly staff, facilities
EXCELLENT ALL ROUND
