Score from 54 reviews Fabulous
beautiful hotel in beautiful grounds, surrounded by outstanding countryside. a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of life- it's very quiet. we used the pool and spa frequently- the outdoor hot-tub was awesome. the staff were very welcoming. we were given a free upgrade on arrival.
the breakfast could have been better
Great location. Very striking, small, heritage hotel, beautfully furnished and decorated. Deluxe bedroom was outstanding. Small but well appointed Spa - great outdoor hot tub! Nice gardens. Helpful front of house staff.
No heating in bedroom despite turning radiators on full. Apart from Maitre D, restaurant staff pleasant but very inexperienced and not up to the standard of the hotel or dining room especially for the price. 3* service at best. Spa changing rooms very basic - one poor quality massage.
beautiful garden, very nice and friendly staff, good food (both brasserie and restaurant menu)
Mattress quality Facilities would need a refurb
Room decoration and features Space Service Facilities Grounds Food In fact, everything!
The tiles around the pool were very slippery when wet. I nearly fell a couple of times even though I was only walking carefully.
Lovely old house in pretty countryside. One member of the staff at breakfast was very nice.
Unfortunately we didnt enjoy our stay. Lots of little things and a couple of major. Slightly shirty, pretentious staff attitude that you only seem to encounter in poorly run manor house hotels. Dont get fobbed off with a coach house room, unbearably hot and stuffy and with problematic drains that cause a distinct unpleasant smell. The staff are well aware but will pretend it's not a problem. Glasses and cutlery never properly clean. No cold mixer for drinks. Horrible room service sandwich. Breakfast items at room temperature that should be chilled. Some random jammy knife marks on our toast. Unexpectedly charged 3.50 for a toothbrush kit. This hotel has a £50 late checkout policy and they relish attempting to apply it.
Helpful staff who made us all feel welcome.
Staff outstanding Good selection for breakfast
Steep stairs at top of the house. Very expensive. Lunch was not adequate for a main course
The overall quality of the staff and the accommodation and also a great dining experience for our evening meal - going back to try the Chef's next creation!
Staff are fantastic!
Fine dineing was not my cup of tea! But if that's what you like you'll be fine.
the pool、garden、classic traditional room
no Wi-Fi in the room
The hotel, the welcome, the entire stay was magic. Any negative feedback; please ignore them. Simply can't wait to get back here.
This was a beautiful traditional hotel, beautiful grounds, staff couldn't do enough for you - we loved it!
Nice old building and garden.
A bit stiff and regulated and controlling. Restaurant only offered fixed 3 course menu with a fine dining style . Something more informal as an option would be good. Sheets and light blankets would be better than duvet in summer. Everywhere I go I have to strip the duvet to get a reasonable nights sleep.
spa facilities and lcation
extortionate prices for dinner and bar prices
Room was beautiful and clean. Spa is beautiful too.
E oorhangers or stay so ecoduct use the spa in our last day. However the spa didn't ale is in since we had already checked out. When we complained with the staff of the hotel they kept repeating that this was mentioned in our booking confirmation. Which we peeved to them that was not. The hotel staff was not even apologetically. Badly trained and we left with a bad taste after a lovely stay.
Peaceful and relaxing.
Restaurant food was only average and over priced and the restaurant lacked atmosphere.
friendly staff lovely building
terrible beds - I now have a bad back
The service was really good and the hotel was set in a good location with good facilities. Everything seemed clean and the staff appeared to be wanting to help in any way they could and did so with a smile.
The food whilst good could have been more for the money paid and was not overly filling. Whilst the service, presentation and flavour was good the portions were somewhat small.
The service and location absolutely fabulous !
Beautiful location, peaceful setting, great food, outstanding service. We stayed in the cedar suite for 2 nights and ate in the outstanding restaurant both nights. Spa experience was fantastic.
Nothing to dislike about this jewell of a hotel.
Facilities of the Spa were excellent. Enjoyed the benefit of a free upgrade too!
Slight mix up on the final bill but this was sorted efficiently by the staff.
Restaurant was very good. Spa facilities good also, wish we could have stayed longer
Despite having some spare time before our train we were not allowed to continue using the facilities past 11am (check out)
This place was once wonderful but management have become complacent and service has gone out of the window recently. We stayed here once in November 2013 and the experience was truly excellent, in line with the top score on Booking. We came back in May 2014, inviting some of our family, but the service was mediocre this time. We were left sitting for half an hour after the waiter promised to bring menus and drinks; in the end we had to leave and go elsewhere for dinner. At breakfast, we again waited a long time and the warm food was not cooked properly. Staff were out of their depth at dealing with a busy morning. Finally, we asked whether we could stay in the spa for half an hour after checkout, which is acceptable in a lot of other hotels. The staff refused point blank and offered no flexibility. We raised all of this with the manager before we left. Instead of offering an apology, he kept interrupting us and gave a rather patronising lecture on why all of our complaints were unreasonable. His excuse for short-staffing and lack of flexibility was that the hotel had become so popular recently. Popularity should not last if management respond by cutting corners and becoming standoffish, especially not for this price. We will look elsewhere next time.
The staff were excellent, the gardens lovely and the location was super quiet.
The hot tub closed at 9pm. No shower in the bathroom.
