Score from 27 reviews Superb
Location it is only a steady walk to Bowness(30-40 mins) where you can get a boat to all lake attractions. The bed was very comfortable, room was very clean and tidy.
Small car park littered with rubbish, staff kept us waiting to check in so she could finish her cigarette, food cold, dogs allowed in dinning area
staff very friendly, nice big room and bed, food great and great location.
my only dislike was no carling or fosters.
price,service and cleanliness
needed a bit more mending in places. Tarting up
Lovely friendly atmosphere. Cosy rooms that were very clean. Gluten free food available (I never get toast for breakfast so this was great), soya milk for my tea! Comfortable bed. Lovely smelling toiletries.
First night I was in a room at the front near the road and I'm not used to the traffic noises but the room was gorgeous and the bed extremely comfortable.
Friendly staff despite being extremely busy Good breakfast Very good value for the area
The staff we friendly, the owners were very nice and made sure I got a gluten free meal.would go back, most enjoyable
central location to town, plenty of attractions in the area. pleasant place to stop for a break.
Staff Facilities in the room Situated right in the centre of the town
The location was good near to the station. Room was comfortable and clean with tv, tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary toiletries. Dining room was welcoming and traditional. Good choice on breakfast menu but a larger pot of tea would have been appreciated.
First impressions were not good due to the mattresses in the car park which let down the hotel. Shower was a little on the small side and there was nowhere to hang clothes and towels in the ensuite.
Good location, room ideal for just a couple- slightly small but ok for people just being in there to sleep! Breakfast nice also! Staff lovely!
Windows and doors on room didn't lock easily and no remote for TV but nothing too bad!
Staff were polite and helpful.
Room was poor with no wardrobe. Car Park was awful with a smelly skip in it half full of rubbish and a dirty mattress stacked against the wall.
Friendly staff who were always pleased to help.
Bed was lumpy, hard & uncomfortable. Room very small & in a 4 night stay, room was only refreshed by staff once. We ate in the bar 3 nights & had issues with the meal every night - wrong main course being sent or side order being forgotten. Funny at first but got annoying by the last night.
Traveled with 2 cavalier spaniels, and there were no problems with them.Meals were taken in the bar area, breakfast evenining meals were also available and were reasonably priced dogs were not allowed to stay in rooms by themselves, which was fine.
Only thing we found difficult was parking. The hotel carpark was very small and although we always managed to squeeze in it would not suit large cars when busy.
12 of us stayed here the night before my wedding. The staff were great and couldn't do enough for us. The beer garden is very nice and it's in a great location. Value for money is very good.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice and service was quick.
The room was a bit cold but clean. It just needed to a bit of modernisation.
Staff were helpful in the morning
rooms were run down and damp... they were also very cold.
The staff was friendly & welcoming. Very helpful
Room wasnt worth £70.00. Room smelt like damp. Toilet wouldnt flush. Wall paper hanging of the ceilling Thought the ceilling was going to cave in on me. Bath had a massive crack in it.
We needed an overnight b&b when attending a wedding in Troutbeck. The Grey Walls is only 2 miles away (£6 taxi) so is ideal. We booked in early and left our bags at reception, the staff were very helpful. The rooms were very clean and appeared recently renovated, new plush carpets, the breakfasts were hot and fresh and all we could ask.
One of our rooms was missing a number on the door!
The breakfast was included in the cost and was decent. We were allowed to use room pre clean to get changed for the wedding we were travelling to. (Then the cleaner came in to clean room whilst we were out).
Room and bedding was damp. Lamps didn't work. Curtains were hanging off the pole (we fixed). Grouting on bathroom floor was falling out. Bath was cracked. Bathroom floor had long hairs on it. Headboard noisy when turning over in bed, we pulled bed away from wall and it was filthy underneath and even had a misplaced towel down the back of the bed with dust on. There was wallpaper missing off the ceiling, the carpet was stained, the paintwork was scratched and grubby. Whole room and bathroom needs modernising. For the quality of room, I would expect to pay £30 a night, not the £70 we paid. I think we paid for location.... Shame really as we only came for a wedding not to sight see.
What a lovely group of people. We were so welcomed and felt great staying at The Grey Walls. My partner and I had drinks with staff and got asked out on a night out by one and some regulars in the hotel bar. Ideally located from the train station and a lovely leisurely walk to the lake was only about 40 minutes.the breakfast was small but filling as well as having good quality ingredients for both full English and vegetarian alternatives.
We never got to see the manager or owner throughout our stay.
Convient location, good breakfast, friendly staff. Enjoyed the pub in the evening.
I don't have anything negative to say about this hotel.
Our room, the staff, the cask ales, the food, the traditional pub atmosphere in the public lounge, the free live entertainment which was provided on Saturday night, free WiFi in the lounge area, the price of our stay - all in all, everything !!
The friendliness and helpfulness was over and above what you would expect.
Not a thing
Was amazing close to everything and in walking distance to the lake can't wait to book again :)
Bed appeared to be clean !
Tiny en suite with black mould in shower and flapping sliding door ! gruby carpet, hair dryer socket did not work, breakfast luke warm ( when it came after about 20 min ,with no sausage) toaster did not toast bread just dried it out ,coffee luke warm and tasteless. Car park had large skip in it plus old mattresses.
