    Excellent beer

Vegetarian food a bit basic - can you have a vegetable lasagne without any pasta in it? Some staff seemed poorly trained

Nice bar and restaurant setting, although food really very average and not worth the cost. Good breakfast.

Absolute rip-off packed lunch @ £7.50 for a couple of pieces of bread and filling (uncut sandwich) and the usual bits and bobs - cost of which probably amounts to less than a couple of quid. Child friendly in the extreme so steer clear if you want a quiet rest. This is a nice hotel setting although it's the end of a long high street if you're doing the coast-to-coast which adds a bit of walking time on. The accommodation part of the hotel is a bit rundown and can be v. noisy outside the room depending on who's in.

Our room was large and comfortable.

The staff were disorganised and seemed unaware of their guests' needs. Dinner service was particularly poor, both for the evening meal and at breakfast. But they were friendly enough and the hotel was quite pleasant. Just a shame that inexperience let them down.

bar area/lounge area was fantastic, really clean and pleasant. The staff were superb! so friendly and knowledgable with a laid back approach which was really relaxing for us.The food was good and the choice of drinks was great too. Our bed was so comfortable and the towels and complimentary products. This was a great location too. Nice village! and wonderful choice of veggie food to, (one of us is a veggie one isnt)

couldnt find details about the wifi, would have liked info in the room about what time food was served to/bar open etc. Also would have really liked a later breakfast, last serving as at 9am but check out was at 11am, that is a big gap and would've preferred breakfast later on.

The staff were young and inexperienced, and service was very patchy. Long waits for service at dinner and at breakfast were accompanied by general confusion at reception.

Good location for halfway stay for holiday in Scotland. The staff were friendly and helpful, food is good but the evening meal selection could do with more of a variety for vegetarians.

We liked the room and the bed was very comfortable. Dinner was good

We had a disturbed night because we were over the bar area and there was a group (of staff) in the bar very late, which disturbed us because there is very little sound proofing. We were given a discount as a result

Excellent large suite with large comfortable bed.

Steak not cooked as ordered; very overdone. No one came to take our dessert order so we gave up waiting! The bill had someone elses wine and cheese on it, which was removed when pointed out.

During our evening meal the restaurant staff were really polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. A lot of money has been spent refurbishing the public rooms - to good effect. The hotel is conveniently situated for the Coast to Coast walk.

The order was taken incorrectly for my husband's breakfast and they gave my own to another diner. My husband decided to eat the incorrect order, but I then had to wait until the other diner's original breakfast was cooked, a good 10 minute's wait

English country pub atmosphere with friendly staff. Comfortable bed.

Breakfast could have been a little better organized and the young staff better trained. The food was reasonable but the scrambled eggs were pretty poor. Value for money I think was a little over priced.

The room was spacious, the bed was large. The shower was good with plenty of hot water and nice large towels. When they were on the radiators were hot. The fan heater in the room was useful. The bar area with log burner was quite nice to sit in, as were the breakfast and dining rooms, albeit slightly chilly. The meal on the first evening was really good, lamb Henry, lovely and tender and tasty, highly recommended. Some of the staff were friendly and cheerful.

The bed was slightly soft and the heating seemed to be on a time switch so the room was a bit too cool when we returned early from a rain lashed walk. My meal on the second evening was disgusting, gammon steak, I couldn't eat it. It was too tough to even cut through and appeared partly raw. With gammon you expect it to be cooked through properly rather than having to specify as you would with beef steak. Whilst I wasn't charged for the meal "to avoid an argument", the chef claimed there was nothing wrong with it. I don't think he can have tried to cut through it, or if he did he must be strong. Anyway, whatever happened to the customer being right. Some of the staff were a little dour and not so friendly.

Friendly welcome. Stunning room, with view of the fells. Very comfortable bed. Tea/coffee/biscuits in room. Excellent breakfast. High quality furniture throughout the public areas as well.

Nothing, except sorry we arrived to late to sample the food other than breakfast.
