Great food. Lovely staff. Very relaxing overnight stay with the family.
The location was peaceful & ideal for walkers. The staff were very helpful & friendly
Lovely meal in the restaurant and excellent rose wine. Our bicycles were well looked after over night.
Fantastic food, very friendly and helpful staff would recommend and would definitely visit again.
The owners stoked up the fire on our arrival as soon as we got there at 11.20. It was cold but we sat round the fire with a refreshing lager and bitter. They gave a really warm welcoming even tho we was early.
The chap in bar was friendly.
Arrived for breakfast at 9.15 , Saturday morning, to be told no cooked breakfast available although charged for one. Shower unit was absolutely filthy. Poor value and will avoid in future.
Great place to stop over en route to Scotland as only minutes from M6. Despite proximity to motorway located in a quiet village. Great bar with log burner and good food.
En suite shower room tiny and bedroom itself quite small so did not warrant £100 per night.
We stayed here on the 8th Sept 2014 and in short we couldn't have asked for better. Although we booked a standard room I was very sore (Coast to Coast walking) and emailed ahead to ask if we could have a room with a bath. We were on our honeymoon too so rather cheekily mentioned this. Not only did we get upgraded to simply the most amazing suite for no extra charge but the owner also gave a bottle of bubbly on the house.
Having to leave - we could easily have stayed much longer!!
Parking, staff , meals
friendly staff. comfortable room; nice sofas in the bar after the long walk from patterdale. great steak & ale pie with v thick cut chips accompanied by a nice pint of wainwrights!
a little chilly in bar area and in room - maybe heating (& heated towel rail) could have been turn on from say 6am for an hour or so- slightly annoying to have heated towel rail in ensuite & for it to not be turned on - but minor suggestions for how it coulf have been more comfortable as overall both bar area and room were v good.
We appreciated the warm welcome, the clean and well equipped room and thenfwtpct that our dogs were made welcome. The atmosphere in the bar is extremely friendly and the food is excellent - we were surprised by just how good it was. Will most definitely stay here again to break the journey from London to the Scottish Highlands.
Lovely breakfast , party of 5 and each had something different which was no bother to staff.
Service was great room & bed was fab good evening meal
Scramble eggs tasted of garlic rest of it was good
Vegetarian food a bit basic - can you have a vegetable lasagne without any pasta in it? Some staff seemed poorly trained
restaurant lacks atmosphere and cold as was breakfast room
Nice bar and restaurant setting, although food really very average and not worth the cost. Good breakfast.
Absolute rip-off packed lunch @ £7.50 for a couple of pieces of bread and filling (uncut sandwich) and the usual bits and bobs - cost of which probably amounts to less than a couple of quid. Child friendly in the extreme so steer clear if you want a quiet rest. This is a nice hotel setting although it's the end of a long high street if you're doing the coast-to-coast which adds a bit of walking time on. The accommodation part of the hotel is a bit rundown and can be v. noisy outside the room depending on who's in.
Friendly staff. Lovely evening meal and great breakfast. Nice bar/restaurant area. Great stop off for coast to coast.
Our room was large and comfortable.
The staff were disorganised and seemed unaware of their guests' needs. Dinner service was particularly poor, both for the evening meal and at breakfast. But they were friendly enough and the hotel was quite pleasant. Just a shame that inexperience let them down.
bar area/lounge area was fantastic, really clean and pleasant. The staff were superb! so friendly and knowledgable with a laid back approach which was really relaxing for us.The food was good and the choice of drinks was great too. Our bed was so comfortable and the towels and complimentary products. This was a great location too. Nice village! and wonderful choice of veggie food to, (one of us is a veggie one isnt)
couldnt find details about the wifi, would have liked info in the room about what time food was served to/bar open etc. Also would have really liked a later breakfast, last serving as at 9am but check out was at 11am, that is a big gap and would've preferred breakfast later on.
Bit of a 'mix up ' with our booking
The staff were young and inexperienced, and service was very patchy. Long waits for service at dinner and at breakfast were accompanied by general confusion at reception.
Poor packed lunch half missing
Excellent food & friendly staff
Good location for halfway stay for holiday in Scotland. The staff were friendly and helpful, food is good but the evening meal selection could do with more of a variety for vegetarians.
We liked the room and the bed was very comfortable. Dinner was good
We had a disturbed night because we were over the bar area and there was a group (of staff) in the bar very late, which disturbed us because there is very little sound proofing. We were given a discount as a result
