Just feet from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, a short walk from the center of the city.
Score from 999 reviews Very good
good parking idillic location
Friendly, accommodating and helpful staff. Excellent base for exploring Canterbury, Herne Bay and Whitstable.
Some communal areas could benefit from tidying (carpets), but generally clean and cosy setting.
fantastic staff, great ambiance, food first class and good value
nothing all was very very good
Good location in nice area clean beds
on arrival had booked 2 family rooms they had given one of the family rooms to another couple. Really annoyed had to wait while they moved the other couple to another room. The menu was limited to tapas type food only, if you was not a local be prepared to wait at the bar . Finally breakfast room and tables totally inadequate for seating 3 at each table as no room for plates Expensive out of season £100/room
Staff were all very friendly and helpful - made you feel part of the family.
Excellent, friendly and helpful staff. Hotel with a difference, country feel and style.
I loved just how quirky the whole place was ,my bedroom I would say was shabby chic, certainly not luxury, but excellent value for money.Great location.great outdoor space, fab breakfast, and very friendly helpful staff.
The pillows where really uncomfortable.
staff were very welcoming and friendly. Nothing seemed to be any bother to them.
A wonderfully friendly and enthusiastic team who seem to thoroughly enjoy delivering excellent service. Serving good food from an interesting menu, The Grove as a venue sits delightfully at the quirky end of charming. We loved it and will be back.
Awesome staff and a great location. Cool, quirky, welcoming and excellent food. I can't wait to go back!
The staff made me feel welcome, Plenty of tea & coffee in the room. Breakfast was fresh and great quality.
the bins in the room or bathroom were not emptied from previous guests, noise of the near by level crossing and its alarms, wifi was very slow so switched to 3g. bed was clean but bathroom was very tired and did not feel clean / comfortable to take a bath.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The ambience of the venue was lovely and great food and service.
THE AREA WAS GREAT LOCATION FOR ALL AREAS AROUND. PARK AND RIDE IN CANTERBURY IS A MUST THANKS TO KATIE. BREAKFAST WAS GOOD
EVENING MEAL NOT OF GOOD QUALITY, NO SOUP? PLACE WAS NOT VERY CLEAN. NEEDS SOME WARM AND TENDER CARE
Loved the friendly staff, food and decor. Had a really special stay for my partners birthday. Spent the afternoon I front of the fire, then had an excellent meal. Can't wait to go back again!
Lovely inn by the river, staff couldn't be more helpful. Nice pub, good food. Large screen TV in room was much better than the postage stamp you would usually get.
Room was 'shabby chic' but some of it was a bit too on the shabby side.
Lovely base for exploring eastern Kent. Great position by the river, nature reserves all around. Fantastic breakfasts and a wonderful steak dinner.
Place needs renovating/redecorating. But nevertheless quaint and characterful
the rooms were nice and big, the dinner in a box,the quirkiness of the place and location.
needs a lick of paint on the outside and some places in but as a whole very nice stay.
A lovely spot, ideal for us for a few days away, as we like bird watching so having the reserve over the road was great for an early morning walk, just ashame some of it was closed for flood damage, very relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff.
After closing the noise level below us seemed to increase, which was irritating.
The décor was great, dinner was very good & the breakfast was excellent. Enjoyed the popcorn too !
Friendly helpful staff, yummy breakfasts, spacious bedroom, fab location. Loved it!
Windows in bedroom didn't open; some carpets a bit shabby. But these were very minor issues.
clean rooms, good bed & good pub food . very friendly staff
Friendly staff - very willing to please.
The décor is a little shabby and cluttered.
Fantastic, friendly and welcoming staff
The bathrooms are very well loved
Lovely pub trying and mostly suceding in being different in a lovely location. Room was a good size but would benefit from a wardrobe and sofa instead of two uncomfortable chairs - there is plenty of room! The popcorn is amazing! The wonderful city of Canterbury is only a few miles away, this is a good, reasonably priced base.
Cocks crowing at dawn! The bare wood floors hardly insulate the sound from the pub below, wasn't an issue on a quiet Sunday night, and I don't go to sleep early, but might be an issue for some people. Breakfast was disappointing (orange juice not refilled, cheap streaky bacon, kitchen-buttered toast, small selection). No shelf in shower for shampoo etc. No simple steak option on the restaurant menu.
