Quality of food was excellent. Ale and atmosphere was great.
This is a really quirky Inn with many original features such as gas lights. I've never eaten breakfast by candelight before but it was certainly a different experience. I stayed in the Cottage (room 12) complete with stone floors. The bathroom was great with a lovely shower and very bright - in contrast to the room which was, in daylight, quite dark. However, this added to the atmosphere. The cooked breakfasts were lovely and all the staff were very helpful and extremely pleasant.
The only things I would criticise my room for is that there was no hairdrier as advertised and there were no drawers. As I was only staying 3 nights neither of those mattered too much (I'd brought my own hairdrier) but it might be annoying if staying longer.
Gorgeous food, staff, rooms and atmosphere
Staff ,location and accommodation were excellent
Car park a long way from hotel
staff were very helpful and friendly, couldnt do enough to help. accomodation was spotless, food was superb. thanks guys.
Loved the room with four poster bed.meal was lovely. Atmosphere was fantastic. Very romantic feeling about it.staff were fab and friendly too.
The location and beakfast was excellent
They should have said at the time of the booking they play loud music until closing. Bed was dreadful
We were there for an event at the minster so the location couldn't have been better, for that and for York. Every person on the staff was helpful and nice. The food was excellent, both at night and breakfast (best poached eggs ever) the music on Sunday night was terrific. The room was spacious and quiet - it was at the back, the street rooms are lovely with fab views of the minster but would be noisy. Tiny pub entrance. Small public rooms, good-sized bedrooms. We'd definitely stay again.
It's VERY difficult to find! The car parking is expensive (£7 a day when we were there, though that was cheap for York) but an easy walk (5-10 minutes?) Guy Fawkes Inn is directly opposite St Michael le Belfrey church next to the monster. Worth it for the position.
We have been to the Guy Fawkes on about three other occasions. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. We like the atmosphere and music. We like the quirkiness of the place.
Unfortuntaley the food was disappointing compared with our other visits. We had dinner and breakfast. Breakfast in the past was great with homemade black pudding. This time it was lacking! The evening meal was ok but not fab, the chicken was dry and the roast potatoes were warm ups and didn't seem to be homemade, I might be wrong, but disappointing overall in respect to the food.
The location can't be faulted. The inn is well presented and the staff genuinely care about the quality of your stay. The ground floor is faithful to the origin of the inn and adds to the experience of staying here. The rooms are well furnished.
Fantastic place in the middle of York. Definitely worth a visit! Amazing historical atmosphere, lively but very comfortable place and is nothing like any other hotel. This Inn has so much character, it will make your stay in York so much more enjoyable. Friendly staff, good rooms, nicely decorated. The bar and restaurant are quite lively so don't expect to get an early night, but they close at a reasonable time (11pm) and after that it'll quiet down quickly. Would definitely stay here again, even if it's just for the experience!
Loved the look of the room, felt like it had a lot of character and the view was amazing.
Mattress was very firm, wasn't aware breakfast was included, chandelier very dusty.
Great location Atmospheric surroundings. Spacious suite. Hearty breakfast with best black pudding! Tim very helpful with luggage and breakfast staff attentive.
It's a long walk to Marygate car park.
The location was fantastic, staff so friendly, great food. Excellent value for money.
Location was spot on, rooms clean, staff friendy
Noise from Bar on a night time
Friendliness of staff; excellent food; brilliant position next to York Minster; candlelit ambience!
Bedside lights were too dim, unable to read a book in bed!
Excellent location, great staff, good food, atmospheric surrounding, clean and tidy room. We've always enjoyed ours stays in York over the years and Guy Fawkes Inn only added to our experience.
Hotel great , staff very good , location excellent = magic stay
The inn is all dark corners & candlelight which gives a great atmosphere as did our four poster bedroom which was beautiful. Great view outside (not directly) of the Minster & the en suite bathroom was a really good size. Staff were extremely friendly.
The lack of Wifi but this didn't affect our stay.
Everything was just perfect for our overnight Xmas stay
Everything, as always it is an amazing experience, great food, you could not find better staff, charismatic pub with a great ambience, food portions seem to be smaller than our last visit, this is by no means a criticism as it meant I could at last sample one of the wonderful desserts,
staff were helpful and friendly. hotel is wonderfully quirky yet comfortable
The location was excellent being almost opposite Yorkminster in the old part of town! The hotel was full of history and ambience! The staff were friendly!
Wifi was not strong in the rooms!
Proximity to Minster and old town. Quaint rooms. Sense of history. Able to eat on site. Friendly staff
It wasnt clear to me that the road outside the hotel cannot be accessed by car. You need to find somewhere to stop ( thats hard) then go to hotel and get details for parking. Its about a 6-7 min walk. You would not want to do it if arriving after dark. We chose the attic room....fabulous fun, but a word of warning dont chose this if you have any mobility problems
Has a great atmosphere. Staff first class.
