The owner couldn't have been more helpful and did all he could to make our stay as comfortable as possible in every way, I cannot praise him highly enough. There was a function on and so he put us in a private room for dinner and lit a wonderful wood fire.My wife doesn't like duvets, so he immediately found blankets. He didn't charge for 'phone calls. I think he's just underfunded. Breakfasts good.
The hotel is run down and needs a huge capital expenditure. Young waitresses very inexperienced. For instance one of them took our food into the private dining room and didn't tell us in the bar that our food had been served. Bar area and dining area tatty. Pub grub but good quality. There's no network connection for mobiles in the location, not the hotels fault but a nuisance.
A comfortable room with a great view, good meals, good beer, friendly and helpful staff
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent food but the dinning room was a bit basic. Comfortable bed and modern bathroom. Good breakfast.
A guest had 2 dogs which barked at night. Ivy around the windows attracted insects and spiders so had to keep them closed. No lift so had to drag heavy case to the second floor (staff did offer to help with it).
Location View from room Meal Room size Bathroom Breakfast
HEAVY quilt (take your own)
Sense of continuity/tradition. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Decor a bit tired but pointlessly clean and quite charming.
Bathroom pink a retro step too far? Trivial point.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good food and sensibly priced bar.
The double bed was very uncomfortable - very hard and clunky. We barely managed more than two or three hours sleep.
The hotel is like a large family home, It's very clean, rooms are functional and peaceful the food was really good.
Very little to dislike, the rooms are old fashioned but comfortable
The location was fantastic unfortunately a bit too misty to enjoy it fully. Room was comfortable with a new bathroom. Hotel has a slightly faded elegance which was nice, we did not stay long enough to sample any more than that.
It feels slightly understaffed as we waited quite a long time to attract anyones attention to check in. The full welsh breakfast was disappointing, it was a little dry, felt like it had sat under a hot lamp for a bit. Other than that the hotel is good value.
View and location.
Restaurant was disappointing.
I have travelled the world staying in various hotels and guesthouses and I have never "checked in" and "out" of a hotel within a 30 minute period. I was very disapointed in the hotel. I will not be returning.
The hotel was comfortable staff friendly, very nice area, food edible, had a good night's sleep.
No facilities for children, parking area very small, carpets a little faded,
Hotel clean and tidy food good staff helpful
Beautiful and interesting building. Views from our room. Food was very good. Breakfast waiter was very helpful and courteous
The room was tired, dated and in desperate need of a makeover. The windows were dirty and one pane was cracked. We put a bottle of water on the bedside cabinet and it slid on the floor because the cbinet was not level - quaint, but not good. One of the wall light was at a precarious angle. Carpet needs renewing. Mattress was lumpy. Bathroom fittings old and worn eg. taps stiff, took ages to set the shower temperature - water was scalding from hot tap, bath plug chain was broken. the shower soap holder was loose, there was mould on parts of the bath sealant. The toilet seat was a flimsy polyethelene item that bent when you sat on it (no i'm not that heavy - 10 stone) and ti kept sliding off the edge of the pan. The room gave the impression that no one cared about it - shame as this is a wonderful building. I know that some of tha above are just little niggles that did not ruin our stay but for £100 a night I expect a lot better. The staff, (excluding the breakfast waiter)were not unpleasant but showed no enthusiasm and gave the impression that they were unsure of what they were doing - e.g. when I asked if we keep our key with us or leave at the desk when we go out the girl on reception didnt seem to know - our waitr at dinner abandoned us and we had to seek him out to order our pudding - maybe his smartphone was more interesting:). Would stay again if I had to but not for that price.
The freeview tv did not work in family room.
Staff very helpful. Large room with lovely view and comfy bed
The hotel is a bit quirky but in a good way. Firstly a great location and friendly staff. The room with the four poster bed is excellent - one of the best nights sleep I have ever had. Great breakfast. Good value.
Don't expect 5 star luxury, its a bit tired in places and could do with a refurb... but to be honest that didn't matter. Fabulous hotel I will be back.
that our little dogs were made welcome, staff were extremely helpful also very quiet at night ,execellent breakfast . a great hotel for a break or to visit surrounding areas
nothing not to like
Very friendly staff.. beautiful views would like to stay there again
The bed creaked every time we moved or turned over but didnt like to complain as everything else was perfect.
Soft bed Old rooms Bath not clean
Wonderful location, friendly staff, good food. Many reviews mention the hotel looks a bit tired and run down- Actually if it were not for the excellent en suite bathrooms you would feel that nothing had been touched for about 50 years. I felt this was part of the charm. I would be happy to come back
Long wait for food on one evening due to staffing issues. To be fair there were frequent apologies.
Warm welcome. Comfortable bed. Fun night with the locals in the bar. Yummy, good priced food.
Bathroom needs a little work, nothing major.
very friendly young lady at reception desk and waiting
poor value for money. cold, possibly still frozen food served as bar meal. dirty room-bathroom in particular. no clean towels provided for second night. beds not made after first night. kettle flex so short it was dangerous as it fell off the surface twice. breakfast very poor value for money. cold tap in bath stopped working for 10 mins. poor/no wi-fi reception in our room. would not stay here again
I liked being greeted with a smile, having a proper key for my room and being remembered by name and even for the reason for my stay. During a very hot week the room was cool and had a great view. The breakfast was also excellent and the veggie option was delicious.
It was a pity that there wasn't a pavement or path from the main car park to the hotel, but the on road parking was fine.
The location was fabulous and am a huge fan of Hinterland so being able to stay in the same hotel was awesome!! Its a lovely hotel and I will certainly be staying again.
