Coal fire. nice bar. close car park. Good staff.
Hob broke only scrambled egg lumpy
a realy friendly and cosey hotel, the staff could not have been more helpful, I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in this part of wales
lack of equipment for elderly disabled IE handrails on bath, and stairs
Professionalism & friendliness of the staff
Friendly staff, good bar facilities and the price.
The friendly courtesy of the staff; nothing was too much trouble. My husband was in hospital nearby; un-intrusive support from the young staff. Food good and unfussy. All charming to the dog. Lovely clean park and interesting walks. Shopkeepers all friendly too.
Looped music, but I'm nearly 80!
Staff where lovely very helpful. Real coal fires, very quirky hotel very old with character which I love. Breakfast lovely full English.
Our room was very small nothing like the pictures on the website bathroom was not clean rusty radiators, hairs in the shower ,mold on the shower head the bed had rusty hinges on it also bottom off bed all dirty . View from window was awful all boxed in with the sight of bins, roofs of hotel at the back . Disappointed but it was only for one night.
Clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent breakfast. Good main meals. Very friendly staff and a manager who was most helpful with a problematic wifi. We will most definitly stay here again.
The lounge and bar temperature was on the low side and we retired to bed a little early because of it. It was christmas party week for some local groups and on both nights they kept their coats on until they were seated at the tables. That should have raised the alarm bells for the staff really.
Comfy seats by real fire a nice way spend evening when it was all frosty and freezing outside
No breakfast included in the room price
It was quiet, and staff were friendly.
The bathroom. It was very small and without a window. It had a noisy tank in there and was quite stuffy.
Nice comfortable room with reasonable rates.
En suite facility could have been a lot cleaner.
Just by the main road, easy to locate
- no elevator - wifi no good - bed too soft - carpet gone fare too thin - the window of the bathroom is literally transparent making you feel too exposed and insecure
Convenient location for next day meeting. Breakfast was good
After 8 hours driving i checked in at 8.27. The receptionist was slow and when she had completed registration I asked about dinner and she said kitchen closes for new orders at 8.30! TV no remote WiFi had changed but not advised At night a light was turned on in corridor waking me up because the room has a skylight above the door. Pillows hard In the morning very long time before sink tap warmed up. Only a dribble came out of the shower!
Gives much more than you could expect for this amount of money. Traditional British hospitality, good qualitiy, good food, excellent location in the middle of a picturesc small town, in wlaking diastance from the Chirk Aqueduct and the Castle.
Great location and excellent breakfast!!
No evening meal on Sunday!!
Historic hotel in great location for exploring North Wales & Snowdonia. Excellent room rates and quick efficient service. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again when visiting North Wales which was absolutely beautiful in Autumn.
having read the reviews online i was really aprehensive about what woiuld greet us when we oened the door, but the first thing we said was "wow"! The room was beautiful, four poster mahogany bed n 2 other singles. All beautifully furnished, with beaut curtains.NO cobwebs, but a sider was eyeing us from the ceiling! There was a kettle in the room, with 4 mugs spoons, sugar n tea provided neatly on a tray. (We were in the family rm) There was a tv tho we didn't watch it. Dunno if the window opened, didn't check. however, it wasn't hot. Downstairs had a nice ambiance, too. For £40 for the night we couldn't have asked for more! 'Becos we had to leave early in the mornin I took my own toaster down with marg n a loaf of bread n a knife n plate so we didnt get held up by the little one takin ages to get ready!(we were on a tight time schedule!) It was a really positive exerience with the glam furnishing and my 8 yr old really loved it.
Bathrm was a bit smelly. We thought there was no hot water for the shower until my son suggested runnin it for 5 mins after which it was beaut. The loo had a differentbut new seat. The seats were abit dirty but comfy. There were 2 lams in the rm as well as a ceiling light but it could have done with brighter bulbs, es. for the overhead light. U definately needed more light in the room.It was also really daft that my hubby n son went out n when they came bak they had to rng me in my rm cos the hotel was closed n lights were out! noone even heard the bell! so I had to get dressed and go down n open the door, which thankfully I did without setting off any alarms!! They should really inform u on arrival that ur not allowd to go out in the eve.!Imagine if we'd all gone!... All in all, it was well worth £40 in Oct.
Very big room. Nice log fire and warm friendly staff. Good breakfast and late night shop opposite for any last minute needs
Bathroom was a touch small for room size but as only one person no problem
nice breakfast, large room, good location.
very cold no heating in whole hotel, very noisy, no sleep, no atmosphere in restaurant/lounge
Good location. Tea/coffee in room. I try to look at the positive, but I am really struggling here! Disappointing really sums it up and I would not return in a hurry. There just has to be better rooms in this place.
Uncomfortable beds, noisy room - overlooking busy road. Seemed like window was open - but it wasn't. TV was smallest I had seen in years! Bathroom was very small with no curtain or blind on the window overlooking the road junction on the 2nd floor! Water only "warm" at best. Dinner basic and quite expensive. Breakfast was OK. Promised much but delivered little.
Overall I was disappointed. Breakfast in the week was between 0700 and 0900 but no one arrived until 0730. I also asked if it was possible to have an early breakfast on the Saturday as I was leaving the hotel by 0700 to run the Snowdonia Marathon and was told that the Chef lived in Oswestry and wouldn't be available until 0800. Whilst my stay wasn't uncomfortable I wouldn't put it high on my list of recommendations and will seek alternative accommodation if I'm in the area in future.
You didn't like the sausages they were burnt.
Location - not too far from Train Station, a reasonable afternoon walk over the Aqueduct and back (via. England). Satisfactory bus connections to Llangollen and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Good Breakfasts and Evening Meals.
Even with heating off, duvet was too thick for us. Bathroom had a few oddities (toilet paper only accessible when standing up and facing the wrong way, shower flow suitable to water flowers in window box, etc.).
Good rate for a family room.
Breakfast was poor, pre-cooked and kept warm for too long.
It was Central to where we needed to be
There didn't appear to be enough staff on either reception or in the bar area. What really let the place down was a badly soiled towel in our bathroom. It appeared to have been used as a nappy! We did tell reception on checking out. Breakfast was adequate albeit very greasy and not over hot.
Good food, helpfull staff and comfy bed.
