Location nostalgic great old building ,needs up dating ?
Staff very helpful. Everything else.
A lovely old hotel modernised yet unspoilt kept original features
Couldn't open the window but a fan was provided
comfortable stay, no real problems.
Plenty of cobwebs and a complete spider's web with spider, in the room. Fan not cleaned, full of coffee stains.
Staff very pleasant and efficient, spotless bedding. Really good value for money. Super breakfast.
quite room pleasent staff nice breakfast will go again
The building and it's age, and it's history. Beats a modern hotel any date. Fantastic location.
Very hot, but that's not the hotel's fault !
The staff were very friendly, and helped sort out the heat problem in room 5 very quickly.
The heat in room 5 was unbearable.
No lock in door
Staff were lovely
Couldnt get a VAT receipt
Location in relation to the canal.
Bedroom was very hot, with heavy duvet.
Good location for visiting surrounding area and attending an event. Plenty of free car parking. The room was comfortable enough and had a large en-suite bathroom. The cooked breakfast was adequate.
The room was noisy on the first night of our weekend stay (Saturday) due to pub noise and plumbing pipes. Not much interest from hotel staff in residents. My husband informed the receptionist whose comment was 'yes I know, it's dreadful'. While we were sitting in reception, other guests were heard to complain about specific room issues and another about the quality of the food both received a similar response. However, all in all it was adequate for what we wanted and convenient.
Lovely food and helpful staff. Comfortable beds. Cooked my food without fat as per my dietary requirements without any problem and poached eggs were perfect.
Very hot in family room as window wouldn't open very much(assume for child safety reasons) so dw had to use fan all night which was quite noisy. Double room used night before was better, but noticed no biscuits or free toiletries in dbl room but were in family room. Also disappointed with hot dog sausages for breakfast on Sunday morning. No excuse for that should be real sausages!
Breakfast was good
No hot water in the bedroom. when told staff replied "We've been having problems with that room." No apologies.
This hotel had character and the bed was comfortable.
I would have liked soap in the bathroom and the TV was very small. The hotel felt rather dated. The breakfast was adequate.
the whole aspect of the hotel was nice
our bedroom right on the road a little noisy
Situation & willingness of staff.
En suite not very clean (or easy to clean - could do with updating) My wife had to stand on tip-toe to see in mirror there & would have liked a shelf for toilet bag etc.
the old character of the in. It was a good place to stay the night before we did a narrow boat holiday. Food was good. Nothing to complain about
Car parking Cotton sheets
Poor wifi, none in bedroom Food quality detiorated since last visit No wine list Rooms too hot
Great historic atmosphere, very obliging staff, huge breakfast, real comfortable family feel, clean and comfy room/ensuite. Perfectly placed for start/finish of our cruise on the Llangollen Canal.
Lovely old building. Friendly attentive staff who were helpful.
I had a large room for a discount price, even in summer. The beds were comfortable and I slept well. The hotel wasn't crowded. The staff were friendly. It was quiet at night. The traffic had been reduced by a bypass road nearby. No one bothered me. There was an en suite bathroom. The hotel was recently renovated. There were useful shops, cafes, pubs, etc. nearby. The castle was fairly close, which was the most important thing for me due to the concerts. There were various other attractions in the area. There were countless opportunities for walks. There were buses and trains to take people around at least part of the area. More train lines may be built in future. There were many leaflets showing nearby attractions.
The TV sometimes lost all channels and I had to switch off and on again. I had to pay extra for lunch and dinner. The shower ran cold for a minute or two every time it was used. There was no double glazing so the room would be cold in winter.
Supper had been booked. On arrival we were told it would be served elsewhere as the dining room was booked for an event. Turned up but then told there would be a delay," How long?"", I asked. &Quot;Don't know" was the reply. We waited a bit but gave up and went to the Indian Restaurant over the road and had a delicious meal in a friendly place. Then went to our rooms where we could hear a herd of elephants below us pushing and scraping the furniture around which did stop but then the music began....so no sleep till that ended, which it did at midnight. Felt rather cross as we needed a decent night after a very early start with another the next day. The next problem which kept us awake was the pipes! Plumbing rumbles practically shook the room as well as being loud. This happened after midnight and at 5am. Basically the plumbing is ancient and nothing has been done about it. A few attentions to detail in the bathroom would be nice too - nowhere to put anything - not even a hook except for a tiny glass shelf over the basin . The mirror was so high I could just see my forehead!! All in all not a good experience. Breakfast the next day was adequate, we needed to put our group together rather than leave our friend in isolated splendour on another table. The waitress was friendly. However,we feel the staff appeared leaderless and struggling.
Menu in the restaurant was very limited. Very few staff at the hotel so service was very slow in the restaurant both in the evening and in the morning. No one on reception in the morning, so could of easily walked out without paying!! The hotel was nicely decorated but they run it on a very limited staff which impacts on the level of service delivered. Will not be returning to this hotel
The double room was fair for me and the wife
My young family were put in a flat which was not clean . They had 2 children . The bathroom was awfull . The beds where stained. They had no privacy . This is not what we had booked . We booked 3 separate rooms .
