The staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was good with a different twist and hearty breakfast. I would recommend it. Only thing that let it down was the shower in my room which trickled out and was not hot enough. I actually felt colder after the shower than before but fortunately the towel rail was heated so that helped. But in the light of having a very bad back and needing a hot bath or shower in the morning to help get me going, this was quite a dissapointment. I did however mention to the staff whio said they would let the owner know. On return to my room after a long walk in the morning prior to checking out, I saw the cleaning lady who was doing my room and she mentioned that apart from that room being the coldest in the hotel, which didn't seem to worry me too much, that a few people had already mentioned the shower problem. Whilst I appreciate it is an old pub and that room is in the oldest part of the pub, and plumbing can always be a problem, I do feel that the shower has to be upgraded to a power shower. However, I would go back and would obviously ask for one of the other rooms.

Lots of parking available, straightforward check in (at bar), clean and simple room with some extras (shampoos, shower gels etc), small TV with freeview channels, warm and comfortable character room. Really lovely wood fire in the bar/restaurant with lots of quirky pictures and collectables displayed all over the walls. Great relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Evening food excellent - well worth the money, and a well-earned reputation. Highly recommended. Breakfast was disappointing, as the evening meal the night before had been so outstanding. Cheap meat and greasy breakfast - exactly what you'd expect for such a bargain room, but it would have been great if there had been a pay-for opt-in on breakfast, so that we could have had the same great standard for breakfast as we'd received for dinner the previous night.

The welcome, doombar, value for money (3 b+b for £55),breakfast +very quiet at night. Bar shut a little early (21.00) although it was sunday night. I`m sure they would have stayed open if we had asked. Batter was a bit soggy on our fish + chips were a too greasy.

The friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Lovely food and nice pine furniture in the bedroom. Beautiful countryside. No door on staircase leading to scores of mosquitos on the landing. Toilet paper not replaced and hoovering the lounge whilst clients were having breakfast. It would have been nice for the chef/owner to be seen talking to guests.

A delightful village location in the heart of Somerset and a really friendly staff. I thought a 'pub' b and b would be a bit basic but The Helyar Arms is a class act. Great food on the menu and the rooms are gorgeous - really pretty views, great space in the room and lovely quality beds. Recommend to anyone - we only stayed one night as a stopover for Weymouth and the Olympics - but I think it would make a great base for exploring Somerset or escaping life for a while.

Very friendly staff who treated you as someone special, nothing to much trouble. Criticism's a bit overpriced (room and food) but had a local area monopoly which explains it, food was nicely cooked and well presented though total mix match of bar/restaurant furniture which could do with replacing shower of 'dust' decended when I put a bag on top of the wardrobe Draught Beer appeared and disappeared frequently which I found astonishing and some brands were out for days, example I was there for 6 nights and No draught Guiness was available during this time also a Lager but I cant remember the 'brand' All of these observations are somewhat trivial, but I do think the room was overpriced I enjoyed myself and I must once again say how nice and friendly all the staff were G.C.Friston (aged 80years)

Location & Setting were beautiful. Food was very good. Some of the staff were excellent, however, one member was not quite as welcoming. I booked the room for a rate of £105 and I have been over- charged which I was not impressed with.

The Arms was beautiful quaint and idyllic, as we come all the way down from london it was really nice to have a real country stay, the room was very comfortable and clean and countrylike with the pine funiture. we pulled up at midnight having not being able to check in earlier with all our luggage - the car park was far to dark, fortunately there were other guests arriving at the same time, otherwise it would of been really spooky. It would of helped if there was a little more lighting around the car park to the road and to the front door

Nice village. Staff unfriendly on our arrival. Room basic, tv very small, shower cubicle very dirty. Food expensive, even for sandwich. Plumbing system a macerater, small bore so very noisy, ok if warned before hand, but not mentioned on booking or in literature. The chef apparently does not prepare breakfast, which was very uninspiring. There are lots of awards on display but no evidence from our stay of how they were achieved.

I thought the standard of the rooms was high, and very attractively set out. The breakfast was very nice, and freshly cooked. A very small critisism is that the waitress on Sunday morning had to be asked for quite obvious things such as coffee and toast.

Friendly staff, heritage well maintained building with plenty of character, good food, comfortable clean room, good wi fi access, quiet village environment. We had our own transport so the somewhat remote location suited us but this may be a problem if you are using public transport to get around.

The setting was beautiful and the hotel pictureque. My room had everything I needed and was very clean and welcoming. The food and service was excellent and as a single female staying for business I wanted somewhere comfortable, friendly and not austere which was what it was. I would definitely recommend The Helyar Arms.

We enjoyed the food, especially the prizewinning puddings. East Coker is a very pretty village. The Helyar Arms was hostIng an impressive cider festival when we arrived. It's convenient for Yeovil Junction station.
