Heating not working in bedroom but offered electric heater Evening food disappointing
Top rate bedroom, fresh linen, appeared recently refurbed.
Have stayed there a few years ago but on this recent visit felt that the pub could do with a bit of TLC. Bedroom was great though.
Lovely staff and a very comfy room. Food also very good.
Shower that did not drain away. Broken toilet seat. (It was split right across the wooden seat so that we had to cover it with paper to sit on.) When told of this the staff seemed annoyed. The bathroom smelt of dirty drains and the shower drain was black with dirt. When settling up the accommodation charge was entered twice on the bill. Young foreign chef cooking breakfast for the guests was on his own with no help and gas pressure in kitchen was down so very slow cooking.
Cold room Toilet seat split
Staff lovely very helpful kind thoughtful two did report cold room but nothing happened
Excellent breakfast, comfortable room, friendly staff and very good value for money.
There wasn't anything we didn't like
Ambience, Florence who was front of house was very good at her job.
great area and very good staff always very helpful.very dog friendly
The heating in the bedroom with one radiator we couldn't adjust and another that seemed to cut out long before the room was warm. We were there on a cold night, so really felt the lack of warmth. When we returned from our evening out, there was no street lighting and it was difficult to see our way from the car park at the back to the main entrance, as there was no lighting. When we went down for breakfast, the tables were on the opposite side to the usual dining tables, which were situated near a lovely open fire in the evening, when it was lit and welcoming, but was not lit and too far away anyway in the morning, so we were freezing through breakfast. We wanted to make an early start, but could not get breakfast before 8.30, even though we asked if that was possible. We hadn't known, or perhaps had missed it on the information, that Sundays meant a later breakfast time than other days. There were no healthy cereals for breakfast. I would have felt cheated if I'd paid the full price for the room.
See above. Also, the room was a good size and the TV was good. The bathroom was warm, with toiletries provided.
breakfast was rubbish - cold toast, raw bacon (which was sent back), part cooked egg. Room was "Tired", needs decorating
Just the whole atmosphere - relaxed but at the same time efficient and helpful
We spent two nights here and felt extremely welcome and very well looked after. The rooms were lovely as was breakfast and meals in the evening. We will be going back!
could of done with better heating
Friendly staff, fabulous tarragon chicken.
Peace and quiet of the village
Very helpful staff. Breakfast was superb - quality items and well presented
Don't expect slick organisation!

Did not seem to be expecting me chef late on Sat morning Got bill messed up
Staff very helpful and welcoming Just what I was looking for........great food and atmosphere
Nothing, the room, en suite, breakfast, all more than acceptable
Being in the country and still close to Yeovil.
A bit cramped but that can't really be helped
The beds and the breakfast variety available
the saniflow system in the shower/toilet room was quite noisy.
Staff were vey helpful, beds were very comfortable and the hotel was able to accommodate our group of 8, including 4 children (we booked x 2 triple rooms and x1 double).
We stayed for a week in August. The Helyar Arms appears on booking.com as a hotel but, as the owner pointed out to us, it is not. It is a country pub with bedrooms upstairs. There is no staff member available on the premises after hours at night in case of emergency. The bedrooms were not clean, bathroom fittings not properly installed, lights not working in en-suite, toilet in one room was noisy and smelly. Breakfast was fine for the first few days but the kitchen ran out of bacon mid-week. We noticed that the cereal packets were out of date(3 -4 months). The bar ran out of cider during our stay. We ate dinner in the award-winning restaurant one evening, having booked a table that morning. We had to wait two hours for our main course to be served but the restaurant did not seem to be particularly busy at the time.
The village is charming
Breakfast (for vegetarians) was sparse and took an age to be served. Both server and barman with whom we paid (the morning after) didn't want to be there and were none too friendly. Food itself ok.
Loved the room and the village and would stay again.
We had been attending a friends wedding nearby, collected our room key 11am. They said our room wasn't ready so we dropped our bags in our friends room (who luckily were staying in the same b and b). On our return we walked into our room, only to discover two people sleeping in the bed! Tried calling the phone number, and knocking on doors and there was no response, and no provision for contacting anyone in case of a problem or emergency. Ended up having to spend the night in our friends room, thank god they were in the same bnb or we'd have been sleeping in the hallway. A refund was (eventually) offered, but it was too little too late. Avoid.
