Very welcoming and friendly owners, good real ale bottled beers. Friendly locals (as it was very early January not many people/guests about) so nice to meet chatty local fellow dinners. Breakfast excellent, dinner good (even had bread & butter pudding!) Free wifi worked well most of the time. Lousy mobile phone reception (well it is in the middle of nowhere/countryside) Could have been a tad warmer (very cold January days) so probably being a bit picky. Bed was warm & cosy though.

Location: take guidance from Hightae's website regarding directions to the Inn as this is the countryside Room: We had Room 3 which was a perfect size for a short stay & decorated in a beautiful country chic style Welcome: Mark & Morag gave us the most wonderful warm welcome. Mark carried my pregnant wife's bags to the room & invited us down to have a nightcap at the bar before bed. The next day Morag cooked us the most wonderful homemade breakfast and we got perfect directions straight to St Mungo's Parish Church. Price: the price point is perfect, it's not the cheapest in the area but it is the best value for money by far thanks to the welcome, location, room, food ... it's priceless. Thank you Mark & Morag! There is nothing to not like about this Inn but do heed the directions on the website because some roads are treacherous for inexperienced drivers.

Mark and Morag are excellent friendly and efficient hosts. The rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated. Food is freshly prepared from quality ingredients, and there is a good selection of wine and whiskies. The location is very quiet, though easily reached from the A74(M) for a break in a journey north or south, but also ideal for exploring the underrated countryside of SW Scotland.

Having used booking.com frequently and toured Scotland staying at several well recommend guesthouses last year The Hightae exceeded our expectations in every way. The welcome and warm log fire after a long drive was just the job, Mark and Morag the owners are obviously passionate about 'getting it right' and this showed in every detail. From the quaintness of a tradtional small village pub to the quality and cleanliness of the well appointed rooms with plush towels and bed linen it was first class all round. Staying here would do my diet no good at all! Morag's home cooked roast pork belly followed by bread and butter was glorious demonstrated by locals enjoying other tempting high calorie dishes! The quality of the breakfast continued in the same vein! Lovely couple doing a great job which I'm sure is already rewarded by guests returning regularly, we certainly will, just need to diet the previous week! Great advert to travellers touring from overseas what good Scottish hospitality really is, worth a visit.

After an horrendous journey from Cornwall, where the only speeds on the M6 were crawl and stop, it was a relief to arrive at the Hightae Inn and receive such an extremely warm welcome from our host. Inspite of the fact that we arrived after their kitchen normally closed, we were not rushed but allowed to settle in to our room before being shown a menu and offered a drink. The food was delicious, with good quality ingredients simply prepared. It was good to see that, as well as people like ourselves having food on a Friday evening, it was also welcoming to locals who called in just for a drink. In the morning the breakfasts were also excellent, with the scrambled egg one of the best I've tasted - sounds easy to do, but it isn't. I've noticed that other reviewers have negatively commented on the size of the bedrooms. Ours was described as a kingsize room, but it was still on the small side. However, it was perfectly fine, and very comfortable - the Hightae Inn is an old building so not sure what people expect.

The Hightae Inn is located in the minuscule village of Hightae, just 10 minutes off the A74(M) and approximately 2½ miles from Lochmaben and Lockerbie. Our Sat Nav led us down the merry trail, but upon arrival we were impressed with the clean little pub and B&B. The room was small but very comfortable with everything we needed. But what really stood out was the warm welcome from the owners, Morag & Mark Cuthbertson. They were excellent hosts, and dinner that evening was superb. We would definitely stay at the Hightae again, especially now that we know how to find it! A little off the beaten track.

The Inn was an absolute little gem and we would have loved a longer stay. The owners are clearly passionate about what they do and this is reflected in the high standard at the HighTae. We would recommend this hotel whilst the current owners are running it for sure. Truly worth a visit if you are in the district. Loved it.

We enjoyed everything at The Hightae Inn. The hosts are so friendly and cannot do enough for you to make you comfortable. No request is too much. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and so so comfortable. We can honestly say the welcome and the excellent food made our weekend. There was nothing that we did not like about the Hightae Inn.
