Overlooking Witney's Church Green, The Fleece is a charming Georgian building with spacious and modern rooms. A good breakfast is served every morning, and Wi-Fi and parking are free.
Score from 132 reviews Fabulous
Restaurant excellent as was bar and room
strong smell of drains in some of the public areas
No heating or hot water
Television not working in High society room ( again ).
Staff are friendly and professional
Friendly staff Good breakfast
Dreadful Internet availability. Access to the car park...beware!!
The food and drink very good - staff and service is Excellent. Lovely building and location
Room ( High Street) was a bit tired - the Tv and Wifi Did not work , the curtains Frayed. Holes in the wall were a shelf had been removed The lavatory was dirty with Urine streaks on the lid and spots on the rim ! - yuk Doesnt someone check this ? Poor Housekeeping ! On the upside - the towels and bedding were lovely.
Excellent value 3 course dinner and quality. Room vg.
Breakfast service. Think chef maybe didn't make it in till an hour or so after needed. Breakfast room needed attention to many details.
Staff service and breakfast excellent
Helpfulness of staff
No reception area or not well signposted so had to wander around trying to find someone.
That is not what you want for a quiet weekend away. Waited for 45 min to be checked into the hotel, the alarm bells should have gone off by then already. There was a disco evening right under our room only got to sleep at 1am
Enthuiastic Management Team with a well trained, polite and friendly staff, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Reception rooms were pleasant and relaxed and our bedroom was clean, spacious, and extremely comfortable. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Highworth Hotel.
The room was excellent & the bed really comfortable. I also liked that the heating in the room was fully controllable & there was also a fan provided. The bathroom was very clean and, whilst the shower could have been slightly more powerful, it was more than adequate. The full english breakfast wasn't massive, but there was plenty of choice and the food was very nice. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
My only main criticism was the price of drinks at the bar. We attended a function at the hotel which is what prompted our stay and found the prices quite excessive. It is also worth mentioning that the property doesn't have a lift and it is quite a climb to the top floor with "dodgy" knees!
Lack of staff at breakfast, poor service, and uncooked food.
- Beautiful building - Great staff - Fundamentally a good value hotel
- Needs a lick of paint - Slightly damp smell downstairs (although you get used to it) - Personal opinion - restaurant could be a little less haughty; the food's actually good!
The room was large, comfortable and well furnished. There are beams and other original features throughout. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient with shops, banks, pubs and several other eateries within five minutes' walk.
Need more staff on at breakfast (one morning there were seven of us eating and it was twenty minutes before my cooked food order was taken). It would be better if cooked breakfast started at 07:00 rather than 07:30 (continental is available from 07:00). Wi-fi is a bit patchy, but works most of the time. Parking is down a narrow passage. I didn't risk driving through and parked in the town square or high street (free overnight and only five minutes' walk away).
Large, well furnished room, excellent food in the hotel and several other really good eateries within a few minutes' walk.
The wi-fi is a little unreliable, but it works most of the time. I had a room on the front of the hotel, which is on a main road and the windows are single-glazed so there was some road noise, but I slept soundly and it didn't trouble me at all.
Friendliness of staff and the quiet room. Excellent breakfast selection.
Price of drinks. Access to the car park was via a narrow alleyway, which would not be accessible if you had a big car.
Furniture a bit stuck in the 90's Soggy dog smell downstairs a bit overpowering
Everything was fine, apart from the breakfast ..... which can happen to any establishment at times.
Terrible service for breakfast, promised it would be a couple of additional minutes after waiting 25 already!!! In the end had to wait for 10mins for a carryout sandwich
Nicely decorated, great breakfast, comfy bed. Handy location,
A bit noisy on the main road traffic.
Hotel was nice looking and breakfast was lovely
The bed was comfortable but it was two beds pulled together.
Good quality fixtures, comfy bed and beautiful bathroom supplies. The breakfast menu was excellent and the staff went out of the way to make me a latte, although we were charged extra.
We found the address hard to find as teh first section of the road is on the main road but then it turns off - it would be a good idea to provide the crossroad opposite for travellers unfamiliar with the area. The drive into the car park was very narrow - our car only had a couple of cm to spare at one point. There was a problem with communication from the Booking.com site as the twin room ordered for my daughters was not indicated, the hotel were happy to provide another room but as the beds were so big and comfy they were happy to share.
Food, bar, friendly staff
Cold room, tv controller didn't work, wifi intermittent, silly names for the rooms
The room was beautifully furnished and the bed was very comfortable. The food was excellent. The location was convenient, offering a number of pubs and restaurants within five minutes walk if you want variety.
I couldn't get my car down the narrow passageway to the car park, but I parked it in the town square (free between 6pm and 8am) and this is just five minutes walk away. Owners of smaller cars would be able to use the hotel car park. Bbc1 and bbc2 were not working on the tv in my room one evening, but the hotel staff re-booted the system and it was fine from then on. There was a fuse box above the door of my room and one evening the cover fell open with a clang. Fortunately this didn't happen while I was asleep! The staff taped it shut. I hope they have since effected a more permanent fix.
Excellent hotel in centre of town and good value for money. Helpful staff. Plenty of free parking and excellent breakfast.
A couple of small things let this otherwise excellent hotel down. Wifi is poor. We couldn't access in upstairs front bedroom at all. Shower pressure was very average and disappointing.
